Vendor/MI only Cadence Warlord - seeking improvement advice

Grimtools link here. This is what I will run until I get the gear to make a flashier build, like Aegis or SpinToWin.

First and foremost, this build draws heavily from Stupid Dragon’s new player Death Knight build. I used that as a base, swapping Necromancer out for Oathkeeper to take advantage of the new synergies the pairing has available, to say nothing of all the legendary gear that supports Warlord. The build is essentially unchanged in functionality, trading Spectral Binding and Necro’s debuff skills to use the mobile RR from Guardian of Empyrion and the ridiculous Ascension skill.

I’m mainly seeking help with the devotions. I like where it’s at, but I feel it could use some improvement. If you’re going to suggest changes, keep the gear to either craftable or things that can be farmed or purchased from vendors. Do what you will with devotions or the skills that proc them. I am using that kind of crappy relic because it’s the best one I can craft that gives +1 to all Soldier skills.

I am impressed that you capped resistances with that gear, build look solid.Few notes-Chariot is siphoning 7 points and without massice CD the proc is wasted, ofc OA there is useful.Oleron might reduced damage is not stacking with War Cry buff.I will put more points in overguard, but without high end gear ofc points are scarce. Also move skills bound to procs-assasin’s mark should be on low or no cd skill-Cadence.Also note that shifting sands is modifying skill only,so maybe is not optimal that binding.

Looks like almost an identical version I made

But I included this “shield” as weapon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fsM6VUK82qw (still not in GrimTools)

Shattering smash and break morale rr do not stack

Bloodied crystals > Topazes I think

Devotions look fine. I would go with Obelisk instead of Oleron though.

So, to summarize your advice, you think I should remove my Azrakaa, Chariot, and Oleron (or at least the procs), switch to constellations that give more OA, and find a way to get more points in Overguard?

If you do not need the resistances on that shield, considering getting a good Colossal bulward (+2 overguard -2sec cooldown) can be shopped at Hyram

You also have the new faction item “Bysmiel defender” that gives +1 soldier and Ok skills

I was talking actually about weapon component;),but Oleron constellation nodes are very good, but I am nor very impressed by proc.Overguard is gonna help you survive especially with that Colosal shield.

So, listing each suggestion:

  • I will remove Oleron’s Blood and put in another component.

  • I can replace the faction shield with a Colossal Defender, provided I can find one with a passable DA or Physique affix. I can cap bleeding resist by replacing one of the topazes with a bloody crystal. Elemental resist will become a problem though, any ideas to remedy this?

  • I am hesitant to remove Oleron or Arazkaa because it would result in a massive (up to 50%!) decrease in DPS. Ditto with Chariot and OA, though not as extreme. Why is Obelisk a better choice than Oleron? Having a good amount of OA and DPS are my main concerns.

You mean Oleron is 50% DPS? No way.

Also, you have no rolls on boots, belt or prefix on gloves/legs.

Have you tried the “totally normal shield”?

13/12 squad tacticts do not give another attack speed breakpoint so that point is kinda wasted.

Remember that GrimTools can show list of affixes that are not possible to get in game (in particular with shields) best way is to get GD stash for that.

I am trying to avoid very specific prefix suffix combos, and I know I will never see them.

I don’t use GDStash to give cheated items, sorry.

Is Pure Physical viable? Endgame? Im trying to stick to pure Phys but, have not see any -%Phys Res rolls anywhere so im not sure what else to get on gear or do you pretty much try to convert Phys to something else to take advantage of other avenues of scaling such as Pentration/-%Res. I have found a roll on Belt for Increased Armour Pierceing which im gonna assume ill be needing for pure phys right?

Yeah imo half the fun in Grim Dawn is leveling progression of your character isnt too bad. I would prefer only having to go through the game 2 times but im sure thats possible once once i have done everything in the game again. Still a little sad about all my characters and stash is gone but whatever. Think i only had 1 85 and a handful of 60s anyway so i didn’t lose too awful much really. So much has changed it was fine starting fresh again im having fun.

Im running an Oathkeeper+Soldier and it is super fun. Whoever the genius was that decided to combine spin-to-win with hammerzon i could kiss them. Most fun ive had in an RPG in some time. The devotion system pretty much turns you into a proc machine which is always fun.

You could/should include affix rolls as an example. Getting all resistances capped and high OA/DA without rolls is just silly. Look on my build guides how I approach this.

What I meant was that in GD stash you can see what affixes can roll on each item in a more accurate way than in GrimTools.

Btw, you might wanna bind Assassins mark to something else than smite.

Have you considered this faction amulet btw? https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/11588

The build uses Celestial prescense, break morale and Assassins mark.

Ok now Grim Tools is updated

Suggestion: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/JVlJadoN

73% block chance and 100% block recov with overguard

8% cooldown and 26/16 Cadence + 21/12 Deadly momentum.

do you want that shield for the -2s CD to combine with the -7.5s overguard transmuter to have it nearly permanent? or just for the +2?

All right, so after including the fixed drops from the Grimtools update and playing around with devotions, this is what I came up with. Maxed Overguard with -2 cooldown, Oleron swapped with Obelisk (with minimal change to DPS), and overlapped resistance to all but Acid.

Thanks for your input, everyone. Further suggestions are appreciated.

+2 and -2sec dur. Markovian defense is not worth it when you do so little damage. Aslo you can shop the shield and get one with 25% or so physical res.

Only get Counter striek if you need a toggle skill

Nice idea to include Fetta mask

Ok, swapped it for an extra point in Shattering Smash.

What’s great about this setup is how many options there are to upgrade, depending on which of the many blues/purples for Warlord that drop for you. And I was being conservative with my rolls; it’s possible for even better resists or OA/DA with rare affixes.

Yeah warlords are very versatile.

You did not even include prefixes on the pants, boots, gloves and shield so even magic prefixes will be a huge improvement.
