Villagers keep on walking bandit camp while attempting to retrieve a dead body

One of my explorers has died, which is unfortunate, but the shortest route to its dead body is right past a bandit camp, and no matter what I try, I seem to be stuck in an endless loop of villagers attempting to take the shortest route only to be attacked by the bandit camp…

What can I do? I don’t have any manpower to fight the bandit camp.

I’ve had this problem, too. It’s really annoying. The only solution I’ve found to this issue is to build a dirt road out to the dead body’s area, so that the villagers will track to the roadway for most of the distance, before cutting out across the open terrain for the last stretch. Just build the roadway well distant from the bandit camp, looping around from behind, say. I’ve had pretty good results.

Mainly I used this trick when I’d mined a salvage site far distant on the map and the shortest route back to town for my villagers (with all their loot) took them past bandit camps. So I put a road in the area, out of arrowshot of the bandits, and the villagers stick to that as much as possible and they stay safe.
