My villagers suddenly started emptying my food storages (and everything else) and placing it on the road outside my villages walls.
I eventually figured that they’re all desperately trying to stock a temporary shelter, but not succeeding. I’m unable to remove or move this shelter because everyone is busy eating of the road and storing more food on the road…
Edit for future(also see thread):
Issue was raider/bandits hiding in the nearby ruins. The raiders scared the villagers away when they attempted to stock the shelter, resulting in the villagers dropping whatever they where carrying.
So not a bug, but perhaps a notification that villagers are scared would help? (Especially when there are no ongoing raids etc.)
Indeed, there was an empty/unmanned wagon nearby that puzzled me a bit.
However, turns out there where bandits completely hidden from view in some nearby ruins that kept scaring everyone away. The bandits just stood there doing nothing for some reason, and only started moving once my guards reached the ruins. I noticed the bandits by sheer luck after turning my camera several times trying to get a good screenshot of the mess on the road. Note that the game did not indicate any advancing troops, ongoing raids or sieges. Nor where there any other indication that the villagers where being scared away.
I’m sorry for my misleading bug report.
I would like if the game informed you that villagers are being scared away
Was that the starting wagon though? That doesn’t do anything except act as extra storage. For wagons to move stuff around you need to build a wagon shop and staff it.
This was the wagon from the wagon shop yes. I suspect it was abandoned by the villager when it got scared.
Edit:
During the “messed up state”, I selected a villager walking towards the unwanted “road side storage”, and it stated it was attempting to stock the temporary storage.
Turn of events was (probably):
Raid - some bandits got stuck in the ruins and I didn’t notice
Raid ended while bandits where still alive, hiding in the ruins.
Wagon attempted to stock the temporary shelter, but got scared away (or killed during initial raid?)
Villagers try to stock shelter instead, and being scared away.
I noticed an impending food shortage and began looking for a cause, mistaking the scared villagers for a bug. Eventually all my food was on the road, causing villagers very long commutes to get food
Zip up the entire TownName_###### folder along with the .map file and .sav that reproduces the issue. If the files are too big, you can use a service such as Google Drive to share it with us.
Yes, I mentioned that in my follow-up post(second post this thread) that the issue was caused by a raider/bandit hiding in the ruins.
Problem is that I didn’t know the raiders where there, nor that they where scaring the villagers. All I saw was that villagers where dumping precious food on the road.
I enabled the labels/widgets (f2 - f5) - so it’s a lot easier to spot them .
I also had the other way around… I accidentally marked one tree to be chopped near a bandid camp. The laborers weren’t scared at all, going one by one to the bandid camp to get shot. The first arrow scared them, but before they are far enough, they died, so piling up bodies.
Thank you guys for the updates that makes much more sense now, I must have had those settings off somehow and didn’t know that was the cause. TY again.
