Vindictive Flame and Ulzuin's Wrath True Effects

G’day folks!
I experimented with the Demolisher today and as far as understood most of the functions of Vindictive Flame are non existent. I mean that it writes that I should have a fire damage and some other (don’t remember) but it simply does not apply to this skill though the description of the skill states that it exists. The same applies to Ulzuin’s Wrath. No Electrocution damage. Nothing. And where are 15% of Attack Damage converted to health which this skill should give to you? Page two of the character description says that their is no Life Leech. Of course I toggled on this skill and not forgot to do it.
Thanks in advance dudes!

P.S. this game is RAD but it hurts me to know that there several mechanics which are broken in this game and description of many things just unfathomably far away from reality :sleepy:

Not broken, you just don’t know / understand how they work
Fire/Physical damage on VF retaliates to enemies that hit you, don’t buff your damage.
UW works only on distant enemies when VS procs, not the ones close to you. Then it leeches from them. It’s a yellow lightning iirc.

Ember’s Calling is a great option for VF because it gives ACDTH to main retaliation and you can lower the cooldown to 0.2 with appropriate weapons iirc which gives good sustain from what I’ve read.

Yes I know it. I checked page three of the character but where is the Electrocution and other types of damage? It only explains that Fire retaliation exists on this skill and this is it. What about other damage?

Page 2 of Character doesn’t display this damage if that’s what you mean.
It only displays general flat sources of Electrocute that go to Weapon damage.
Doesn’t display Electrocute dealt by UW just like it doesn’t display damage of other skills
(excluding the beginning where it displays your LMB skill for example)

None of flat damage sources on VF / UW boost your character’s damage.
It’s the same for Counter Strike from Soldier which is also a toggle.

Ok. It seems like I did understood after some experimentation with the slith :slightly_smiling_face: It appears that I need to more carefully decipher the description of the skills. I remembered a story of Ulzuin from the Forgotten Gods expansion and that he was betrayed by beloved Bysmiel and thus we are talking about vengeance (retaliation) this time. When the first row of foes are attacking me then they receive fiery retaliation from Vindicative Flames but the enemies who are shooting at me or standing behind the main line of attackers are receiving retaliation damage from Ulzuin’s Wrath (Electrocution and Lightning) and also it drains their health to me. Is that correct?

P.S. I am feeling myself kinda guilty because I didn’t figure this out myself but the developers wrote it right away in the game that if you have any questions then feel free to ask at forums.

You should probably read skill’s description before making such claims. I agree that they may be a bit obscure sometimes… But even Ulzuin’s Wrath kinda explains what it does, doesn’t it? And Vindictive Flame has “100% chance of activating, X seconds recharge, target area”. Those should hint on something, right? Right??

Just calm down man. Take it easy  You’re right and I always regret when I learn something about my favourite games via community because it makes me feel myself not like a hardcore player which learned everything himself. But I tried and I am still trying :pensive: Honestly the description of Vindicative Flames is kinda cryptic for me. English is not my native language but probably they should wrote it right away that the damage is for retaliation only or maybe they should make another character’s sheet in the game (page four?) where you can see all of the skills special treats in a huge details and with explanations. Just a suggestion.
It hurts me to know that I learned about usage of Righteous Fervor and Vindicative Flames from forum. If it consoles you :slightly_smiling_face:
But how I am trying to justify myself. The developers wrote right in the game and in the official game’s guide that I can visit forums and feel free to ask there if something is not fathomable.

Nah, I’m just tryna say that there’re people who playtested the game for years now. Is it possible for them to somehow miss that half of the skills don’t work?

I mean, I was a bit confused by Vindictive flame when I first started playing, but then I just observed an explosion effect happening around my character when it got hit. Cool stuff huh?

I just changed the name of the topic if it hurt you feelings. Yes man. It really sucks to know that I didn’t figured that out myself :disappointed_relieved: Next time I’l try to do as much research as possible myself before asking. Feeling like a pussy but I wanna be a hardcore player and I am playing on hardcore, veteran settings. Hopefully I didn’t spoiled the gaming experience for myself with the secret knowledge learned via the community forum.

Yep. I noticed that effect too but I thought that it was only due to fire retaliation which was indicated on the page three of the character’s specs. Fuck that but after tqFan wrote about this skill I started to experiment and learned that the fiery damage is the way bigger than just an ordinary retaliation effect. And that’s how I understood how it works. Feeling dumb :disappointed_relieved:

I still believe that their a huge room for improvement regards to the game’s documentation. They should make everything more clear in their game’s guide and inside of the game’s tooltips (put some sheets for comparisons and for more demonstrativeness for example). Though I absolutely believe that Crate made a very good guide for the game and especially when you think that only a small team made a game which is better than Diablo 3 for many people and for me it is better than Path of Exile and I see a lot of efforts they put in this game. I think that they really love what they made because you can’t make something that good without loving what you doing.

VF will seem pretty lacklustre until you get the cooldown lower. I use it a lot, as it’s one of my favorite skills. Once you get ascendant conduit and colossal fortress and you’ve pushed that cooldown lower, you will see how much better it is and how useful it can be, especially when it procs and heals you when you’re stunned or CC’d

I haven’t played it too much but isn’t the heal only good with Ember’s Calling in practice which gives ACDTH to the main node?

For endgame, yeah. For leveling, it works really well. I’ve done it several times and it has good sustain.

I remember a meme build back when AoM was released that maxed two masteries and only put points into Vindictive Flame and Ulzuins Wrath and was able to make it from scratch through to Ultimate. Times have changed since then but it’s still a very good skill.
