Warcraft movie: 2/10

It was disrespectfully bad.

Casting was just awful.

Garona: had literally no importance or place in the movie and could’ve been totally eliminated as a character with no detriment to the quality, but rather an improvement in my opinion.

Khadgar: Some pudgy random WOW player dude must have won a casting call contest and BOOM! Hey you’re Khadgar now, bro! The most powerful human mage in the entire Azeroth universe! You’re fat and unattractive with skateboarder/OBEY shirt whispy facial hair and a terrible actor but, hey, let’s cast you as fucking Khadgar!

Lothar: Only somewhat redeemable casting choice, but he really should have been a great deal more muscular and “feral” looking - also nice choice of casting his sister: I assume she was adopted, or he was? I dunno.

High elves: pink? With glowing pink eyes? I just can’t even imagine what they were thinking. TERRIBLE design choice.

the Orcs: As per usual, most of the dickservicing and attention goes to the Orcs by BLizzard/the director. No big shock.

Where were the paladins? Priests? Holy magic?

Ugh.

It was an acceptable 6.3/10 for me.

Perhaps I just expected more. I just thought they could have done so many things a great deal better. My BIGGEST gripe is the casting, but then, I doubt many high end actors would have agreed to do a Warcraft movie. Khadgar being a pudgy awkward teenager that looks like he works at Gamestop and wears a beanie even during summertime killed it for me I guess. :frowning:

Not seen the film, but this takes place way before World of Warcraft, So technically, blood elves don’t exist, )I think they appeared much later (warcraft 3)

trying to find out what races / classes were in the first game, but not been able to find anything, as it redirects to WOW instead.

I do have warcraft 2, but been a while since I played that,

from what I read, paladins were created during the second war (warcraft 2)

but there should have been priests (I think) but as for Khadgar, from warcraft lore, he really did become the most powerful wizard that lived.

Still, I think this fail will suffer like a lot of films from games, and end up been crap, can’t really think of a film adapted from a game that turned out decent/ But I guess Blizzard must have been pretty desperate to have sold the film rights.

I’ll give it a 7\10
I thought the actors did decently, no problems at all with that.
Only thing I really didn’t like was the pacing. That movie should have been at least an hour longer.

Another movie adaptation from a game I actually quite like is Silent Hill.

To be fair, i REALLY liked the magic CGI and the Fel effects. They did a very good job on Gul’Dan.

Just would have liked to see more of it and more magic battles. Medivh’s outfit was sexy as fuck, too. Maybe they will do a sequel and make things better…

The movie did indeed fail to capture a lot of things that made the games (Warcraft not WoW) awesome.

Also, the developer Chris Metzen is a thrall fan, didn’t you see the way he butchered the character and the story in Cataclysm? Not that i liked WotLK very much but the story has been downhill from Cataclysm. And now they’re trying to play the nostalgia card by reviving old characters (WoD, its decent) because they’re incapable of creating someone interesting anymore. God i hope they don’t revive Arthas for God knows what.

Blizzard is a shell of its former self, storytelling has been thrown off the table. Gameplay ranges from dumbed down shit to decent, nothing groundbreaking or innovative (Overwatch is a good game, but not groundbreaking).

Diablo 3 ruined Diablo series, RoS showed promise but the ending was idiotic (Malthael absorbing the Demon Lord’s souls), there were other irreparable problems with the game - the NPC’s worshiping the Nephilim, an idiotic human tyrael, unnecessary nostalgia pandering by reviving dead characters (Skeleton King, The Butcher, Izual), an unimaginative bonus level (Whimsyshire?), a dark filter pasted over warcraftish artwork and the Lord’s of Hell tweeting their plans to us.
WoW has been a roller-coaster ride which is sometimes good and sometimes bad.
As for Starcraft, I dumped any idea of playing the series once i heard they did they same s**t with it

Since this company is incapable of producing quality games I decided to find replacements for my favorite games (D II and WC III). Crate gave me the game that i wanted and more! Now planning on trying Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War, i sincerely hope WH40K’s story is good.

If you find this post offensive then i suggest that you simply ignore it, there’s no reason for you to react to every single thing you see here.

Well that ends my rant, back to the Steps of Torment

They tried Silent Hill, and it was atrocious. It’s kind of hard to recreate the tension and the atmosphere of Silent Hill. I think James Wan (The guy who made Conjuring and Insidious) probably can pull it off

I am just glad they didn’t kill Gul’Dan off. He’s one of the most powerful Warlocks on both Azeroth and Draenor.

I am of the same opinion as you about Garona, she is suppose to play a very major role in this movie and the future as well since she is suppose to give birth to Med’an, the new Guardian but that did not happen. She is also suppose to be part of the raid that confront Medivh in Karazhan along side with Khadgar and Lothar and again that never happen in the movie. Her role as a master assassin and spy under the spell of Gul’dan has been butchered down to some slave/outcast of the Horde waiting to be rescued by prince charming.

Another problem with the movie is that there was never any mentioned of the Eye of Sargeras which Medivh tempt Gul’dan with, which caused Gul’dan to get trapped in Medivh’s mind as he got killed by Lothar, which then leads to Blackhand getting challenged and killed by Orgrimm Doomhammer. The Eye of Sargeras is also what leads Gul’dan to search and open the Tomb of Sargeras, which caused him to get killed by the demons inside the tomb, which later was found by Illidan which found the Skull of Gul’dan and gained the power and knowledge possessed by Gul’dan through the skull. The Eye of Sargeras is also what allows Illidan to locate Arthas. There is not even a single mention of Sargeras which is suppose to possess Medivh.

With all the key events never happened in the movie, I wonder how Blizzard is suppose to go forward with the story.

I agree with each and every single point you made.

Blizzard has decided to start doing what’s easy, instead of doing what’s hard…

“Oh, look, that game is popular and making money, let’s take it, dumb it down a bit, paint it with Blizzard themed characters, and sell it! HURHURHUR!”

Overwatch is just such a totally uninteresting game to me. I have no desire to spam hotkeys to kill another player (probably a 15 year old with social issues) who is also just spamming hotkeys to kill another player.

MOBAs, in my opinion, are some of the worst and lowest common denominator of games and gaming populace.

Maybe they are trying to rewrite the lore surrounding warcraft? and forget about warcraft 1 and 2 and probably 3 as well? The problem with a lot of films these days, is that they generally retell the story in a different way, and sometimes just fail completely. In quite a few examples, the original films still stands the test of time while the remake can be utter junk.

Then again, the lord of the rings had this problem, been a large book, many fans generally still consider the book to be better. Then we have the hobbit that been made into three 3, and to me, totally not needed as the book is a lot shorter then the Lord of the rings.

Also another example is Star Wars, the fans kept the franchise alive with the extended universe and lore, then Disney pretty much said that the extended universe doesn’t exist. So a lot of books where null and void.

In these situations the fans generally know a lot more then the original people that made the franchise. But anyway, I guess in Warcraft’s case, Blizzard looked at the lore and probably said, we have too much for a film, and butchered it, then proceeded to rewrite it in a more concise manner. Even though, by doing so, destroy the lore that the Warcraft games are based on.

I’ll be seeing this movie today though my expectation are low as I only ever played Warcraft 2&3 and not long for that matter.

Probably will only like it for special effects and that’s it like Starwars Force Awakens.

Well that’s a bummer. I’ve never been into the Warcraft world at all and don’t really know much about it but I was hoping the movie would at least be decent.

Still, I may give it watch some day anyway.

I agree with this opinion of your to some extent, while there is a certain degree of skill involved, but unfortunately the popularity of online gaming has somehow led to the decline in gameplay quality and lore.

While i encourage anyone to play games and myself believe it be a source of enjoyment but that doesn’t warrant the gameplay to be intentionally dumbed down to include every inept fool around the corner.

Gaming companies are so focused on getting new players they’re forgetting their old players who have been with them probably since their inception. Whilst it is the aim of a corporation to make money but to achieve this they shouldn’t resort to “cheap” means; by giving out an unpolished product with a shallow gameplay which caters to immature gullible fools who have no regards for standards.

Games like Candy Crush, Clash of Clans and many more capitalize on the psychological effect that games have on many people. They give the user a break from the drudgeries of their mundane existence and in a short while (easy levels) give a false sense of achievement (mainly to those who have none in real life). By gradually increasing the difficulty they ensnare the user’s conscious, this eventually creates a certain level of dependence (addiction). This addiction is what fuels many to engage in micro-transactions (not that they’re entirely bad, i personally like the concept of micro-transactions). The most intriguing part of all this is that the user themselves can’t recall what troubles got them to try the game in the first place. These things are a cancer in the gaming industry and to make matters worse the maker of the three most iconic franchises (Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft)- Blizzard decided to buy that cancerous mobile game called Candy Crush, those people along with their parent company (Activision) and Electronic Arts are a disgrace to the gaming industry they have ruined many small studios and have made little to no significant contribution to canonical gaming in the past decade.

Obviously, this is just something i came up with while typing and is based solely on my observation of things. I could very well be wrong about all this.

The Comic Book Industry has been doing this for a lot of time and it actually works (financially). The American Film industry and the Japanese Cartoon (anime) Industry have been engaging in this practice for half a decade from what i’ve seen. It’s probably preferred because of the concept of familiarity of things. For example if i say, “I’m Banana Man the legendary superhero of a new franchise” no one would bat an eye, but if i say, “I’m Batman of Detective Comics” then everyone would go bat-shit crazy. True if the movie is bad then it’s earnings aren’t very high but it’s still more profitable than a franchise built from scratch. Besides the intellect of the general populace is so low that originality is not a critical aspect. It’s just plain dumb ol’ entertainment. If they don’t reboot things then these industries would find themselves in a dreadful state of coming up with something that is actually original.

Not to side track, I really liked Batman V Superman and I don’t understand why everyone gave it all the hate that they did.

Anyway back on track, I am very pleased with the frequency of comic book movies coming out. They do a very good job, and I especially love the Thor and Iron Man series’. Captain American, not so much, but I still very much enjoy them.

However, it seems like the companies that we grew up with (Nintendo, Blizzard, Lucasfilm) at some point decided that different for the sake of different would be a more appealing direction to take ---- and it isn’t working out. Thankfully, Star Wars is back on track I think with the new sequels. Blizzard needs to stop this BULLSHIT copycat dev plan they are partaking in before it’s too late. I’m an Alpha/Beta WoW: Legion tester and i swear to God, the Demon Hunter class is a clunky mess of doing things every other class already does. Nintendo? God damn, don’t even get me started. Wii was neat. Wii U? Not so much. The gimmicky bullshit they keep trying to shove at us is pushing the people away who actually WANT to play them. I don’t want to come home from work and have to stand up to play a Zelda game. I want to sit on my red ginger ass and CHILL OUT with a damn cocktail and game. And now Nintendo is saying they aren’t telling anything about the NX because “they are working on a new technology” (read: GIMMICK!) yet again.

The world is turning to shit. Let’s leave.

Not to side track, I really liked Batman V Superman and I don’t understand why everyone gave it all the hate that they did.
Yeah actually just saw it last night and it was pretty OK. Worth seeing.

Totally agree on the opinion on Lucasfilm, Nintendo and Blizzard.

As for Batman v Superman. I don’t know who Batman is and i don’t know Superman:eek:. Does this save me from the angry fanboys? :frowning:

Well Starwars The Force Awakens isn’t anything special besides not being one of the prequels which at least those had some originality in them.

Nah let’s just copy paste New Hope and throw in some stock characters that have little to no development due to a high paced movie where pretty much everyone is running around the entire time. I just hope the next ones won’t have some stupid death staresque thing which are being handed out like candy at this point.

As for Batman v Superman I just heard a few negative things about Jessie Eisenberg being more like the Joker then Lex Luther and how the whole BvS fight was ended by a cheesy fact. Didn’t watch it in theaters, will eventually pick it up in the library for free as I at least heard a few good things about the movie.

But yea video game movies aren’t doing too well imo.
