[Warder] Pure RETALIATION, REFLECT, INVINCIBLE, 100k+ DAMAGE, Hardcore Ultimate 100% Done (SF Gear)

The acid retaliation is a nice bonus. It’s not needed though multiple types of damage are nice, if I had just pierce I may find it frustrating if the enemy had a lot of pierce resistance.

I might use that dread armor if I found it. Haven’t had it drop yet

Hi,
im really enjoying this build so far. Thanks for that. Im 70 now and im wondering is there a methode to be more active…because in act 4 are a lot of casters and many bosses are just a pain in the arse with that build. Should i try and max savagery or counter-strike?

i think this build will be a great fun…BTW, i want to have warcry to avoid OT when teaming up but it seems the skill points are so limited:undecided:

just tried ur the build and i encountered 2 problems: 1) retaliation seems to take no effect for caster enemy such as the purger(those throwing poison bomb); 2) pierce retaliation damage to cronley gunman is so low. BTW, is there any post talking about the working of retaliation? :stuck_out_tongue:

hi Squib,

Retaliation does not do damage to ranged mobs. It only works when you get hit by a melee mob.
You would need some reflect damage to deal damage to ranged mobs.

thx bro…wish u a good day!

In a pure build it comes down to one of three methods in dealing with ranged/casters. Reflect armor (easiest to do but hardest gear to come by). Proc when hit skills (skills that attack back at any who hit you, ranged and melee alike) (medium, can be found in devotions and gear), and the third is patience (hardest, anything can be killed with enough time…). Fortunately 80% of this game has melee attackers. Even some ranged attackers have melee attacks when you are close enough, so move in. This is why I listed ‘weak vs ranged’ in cons. I replaced all my retal gear with reflect gear which took out range/casters pretty easily, and while it takes out melee too it’s MUCH slower to do so than retaliation is. Weapon swap is nice, if I’m going in vs caster groups or ranged bosses I’ll bring my reflect gear with me.

Hi DT,

Like AJ said, retal is only vs melee attacks. The mechanics are pretty basic, the damage listed under retal will be against those who melee attack you. See my reply above regarding casters/ranged. Hopefully that will help.

Hey there,

I am around lvl 40 now and play the whole game on Normal - Veteran(Softcore Mode).
To have some easy time on the early levels I really recommend to go for ‘components’.
Some of the compenents which Squib have in his gear can be aquired very early on.

Serrated Shell is in my opinion a ‘must have’ which you gonna have to rush to get this Brutal Shield Slam Skill.

  • Attributes: I put all Attribute points in Physique.
[li] Mastery: For class points I done half/half to 20 mastery points on Soldier/Shamen to get 1 point in all necessary Skills and Passivs that you need. [/li]At 20 mastery you you got Filed Command Aura from Soldier and Wendigo Totem from Shaman.
Then I maxed out Soldier Mastery for Menhir’s Bulwark.
After that you go for Shaman 25 Mastery points to accuire Oak Skin and Entangling Vines.
At Level 40 now, I just start to max all certains skills and passives.
[li]Devotion: First I complete Turtle then Hound. After this I go for Wolverine.[/li]At around level 30-35 you can put Menhir’s Bulwark in the Turtle devotion skill. Now on Level 40 I finished Messanger of War and put Field Command in the Devotion Skill like Squib mention it in his Guide.
For now I start to finish the Crane Devotion to get to Ulo the Keeper of Waters.
[li] Equip: Around level 20 I got some green items with retaliation. You also can aquire some retaliation from components.[/li]Or you can go with some good 1 hand lightning damage weapon with Savagery.

Sometimes there was rough time with range Boss or Heroes but with some patience it’s okay.
I could kill all things in Veteran Mode. Even I could go for the higher level area in act 1.

The really fun comes now: "I could collect 4-set Bonus of the ‘Perdition-Set’ with some help of an higher level friend.
These instant deaths of melee enemys are just gorgeous :).
So far about my journey experience with this build.

Now I have a question to your devotion points Squib:

I am just wondering that you have put 2 points in Lion instead of finishing the Targo the Builder devotion.

Furthermore I would put the Shaman skill ‘Savagery’ for the ‘Shield Wall’ Skill of Targo the Builder.

And take the ‘Brutal Shield Bash’ Skill on the ‘Cleansing Waters’ of Ulo the Keeper of Waters to debuff specific enemys.

I would think then it’s a bit more active playstyle with Savagery and Brutal Shield Slam skill and you have some more reflect damage for ranges.( From Shield Wall of Targo the Builder).

Just want to ask your opinion, maybe I just missing something or the Lions Defense ability with his first two devotions are far better than complete Targo the Builder.

Greetings,

V1re

If reflect is a must-have, why haven’t you taken Shield Wall for 100%+ of reflect without any gear.

I am also curious why Targo constellation isn’t completed, as well as Obelisk of Menhir… both procs seem great?

Also - is the reason you don’t take solid stuff like Solemn Watcher constellation because you don’t want to stack too much DA - because you WANT to get hit more often than not? (to proc retaliations)

What are BIS items for this build? I want to try this build. Thanks.

It is fun to watch enemies fly into the air everytime they hit you. Or explode like the scorpions on the royal hive/rotting croplands areas. Glad you’re enjoying it!

Not a bad idea at all. I actually went back and forth there. I needed the +10 spirit for my amulet(s) but ultimately it was because of hardcore mode and this ensured I don’t die. If I was rolling softcore I would have done this a bit different as some of my precautions are a bit overkill. The 2 points in lion gave me the health I needed to have more health at 33% than I’ve ever been 1 shotted for which is 7027 damage. Menhir’s will activates at 33%, at 33% I have about 8000 health now. I’ve been 1 shotted for 7027 damage before. I wanted to have more health than I’ve been 1 shotted for to ensure Menhir’s will activates. If I had 6500 health for example, and I got 1 shotted for 7000 damage, Menhir’s will does not activate and you are dead. In hardcore, this was not an option, even if it meant I had to have more patience. Beyond that, my gear does give me reflect damage between 58% and 150% (weapon swap). Or if I want to change all my gear out I can reach almost 300% (over that pre-B31). Lastly, the builder skill only activates on attack, and only 33% of the time. I enjoy being lazy with this build. All my other builds require me to be quite attentive. This one I can play multiplayer, chat it up, eat a meal while I farm, etc. and I don’t have to do anything but walk around lol

As far as Ulo’s debuff skill, I played around with it and if we break down the math it may make a difference but from what I noticed it’s negligible and didn’t compare to the retal dmg I was pumping out. Beyond that, as I mentioned above, this may take away points from direct retaliation damage devotions or from those that contribute to my HP pool. Plus it contributes to me being lazy.

Thanks for your inquiries. I’m sure this build can be improved on. While I did quite a bit number crunching, it was not exhaustive. If you try these out and find they make a significant difference, more than I originally gave them credit for, let me know! I want to keep refining my build to better it as well. I may be able to achieve the HP pool to guarantee menhir’s will activates through another channel.

See above.

See above regarding targo, solemn, and obelisk. It’s not that they aren’t good. I just didn’t have the points to spend without jeopardizing my 33% HP pool (so my circuit breakers would activate) and maximum retaliation. Like I told v1re, I’m sure this build can be improved on so I definitely welcome insight that I may have missed. While I did a lot of number crunching it was not exhaustive.

Best in slot items…given the many different variables in the game this would be difficult. While one item may be best by itself, another that’s part of a set may take it’s place when accompanied by others from the same set. One person may value reflect over retaliation, one person’s build may value a lazy build, another tailor’s toward more active attributes.

Plus, I haven’t gone through the item directory to map out all best possibilities. Part of me doesn’t like knowing whats out there so I can be pleasantly surprised when new stuff drops.

Just want to thank you for the build. I had a perdition set saved up, and found a couple of early retaliation and reflect pieces, so gave it a try. Only at 24 so far, and it’s already rediculous, and lives up to your hype.

I recommend Shaman and max briarthorn first, then work up to 1 point wendigo totem, and max out oak skin before getting into soldier (fast clearing). It works perfectly with (on phone can’t see names)the purple constellation, and dog second. My pets retaliation is about 1,100 and mines around 1,300 already.

This build is just what I needed, will make an excellent elite/ultimate farmer.

Glad you like it! It is nice to have a lazy farmer build, not to mention a build that can go into new unknown areas as the developers come out with them. Today’s misadventure mentioned a new area with new bosses. Since I don’t know what to expect, I take this guy in.

Thanks for your reply mate, your build is really cool. Nice job on the theorycrafting - fair enough your motivations for hardcore are understandable. Being on SC I might just try a devotion variation like this : http://grimcalc.com/build/57b4Nf

I tried to fit in Healing Rain as well but was a bit rushed - might be possible. Also had a variation including Light of Empyrion but I think its maybe not really appropriate.

As for reflect affixes on gear to look out for - Menacing, Lich and Incorruptible all add %reflect damage.

‘Of Blades’ adds retaliation % dmg and pierce retaliation. Seraphim and Desolation add fire and burn retaliation respectively.

I also like a previously mentioned suggestion for Dread Armor of Azragor - seems to fit perfectly plus it has some reflect dmg on top of the retaliation.

What other types of reflect gear do you keep in your bags to handle ranged boss situations?

Is there a leveling guide for this too? Looks good!

I don’t believe so. just go damage till 40 then switch with perdition set.

I hope I find that dread armor. Gotta love the retal/reflect combo. As for my reflect gear, I have some blue items but the bulk of my reflect gear is all green items such as this shield (and component) below and combine that with my reflect weapon (below) and a simple in the field weapon swap adds a total of 72% damage reflected on top of my 58% I had already.

If I’m heading in for a caster boss or lots of caster mobs I swap out all my gear with reflect gear. Reflect gear is rare but I managed to find at least one green item with reflect for every item slot.

One rocking blue item would be this amulet (found but you can also craft if you have the blueprint):

The bulk of it though is all green items between 15%-39% reflect amongst other good stats. Every time I find a green item with reflect I compare it with the one I already have for that slot and toss the weaker. Helms, it’s a must to have the prismatic diamond component even in your retaliation gear as it not only provides elemental resistance, it adds 20% reflect by itself.
