No guide though that is a popular request. I didn’t think to make a guide as I was making this build as I was working out the kinks as I went. For the most part though a guide is not needed, take the devotions/skills, etc. that I listed with the item recommendations (such as the perdition set that Aldernath mentioned) and work toward it. There is a lot of leeway in starting this build as it’s a stout build, it’s not until you get to lvl 40 that you should start working toward/respeccing for the retaliation & reflect aspects.
as squib said the build’s very forgiving, I personally remade my sc warder into a hc warder (currently 30, only found 1 piece of peridition ) all of shaman’s maxed for maximum safeness, rank 12 totem is op. Save pact of mog with only 1 point in it, don’t see a need to stat it up more, rest is in soldier and working towards bulwark.
Also squib, is there a point in statting past rank 1 Pact of Mogh beyond vet?
Mogdrogen’s pact with more than 1 point is good if you are trying to stack health regen. I have it maxed on my warder tank and i can see the difference.
This is somewhat valuable, and combined with veterancy your health regen can be quite impressive. However these were the last two skills i put points in. The sheer health pool combined with menhir’s will (which when activated in addition to healing greatly increases health regen) are more important. If you desired another skill and you were going to sacrifice skill points I would actually give up points from veterancy first as the regen is not as good as mog’s pact. Then if you still wished to give up points I would give up mog’s pact next. Imo these are less important than the others.
I figured, which is why I was rushing menhir’s bulwark, should have it maxed by 46
Thank you for your guide. Though I prefer Mages, this seems like a build I could enjoy as tank (so my char following this guide is now known as “Tank girl” ^^).
Maybe I overread it, but: How did you invest in stats? Everything in physique?
I did everything in physique except 13 points I put into spirit so I could equip some reflect/retal gear I couldn’t have otherwise. 322 spirit seems like a popular requirement for a lot of good reflect gear and amulets.
Are there recommended gear affixes for this build?
Just played this through to the end of Veteran. It was fun! Obviously only ranged was a pain. 5 deaths. 4 from inattention due to laziness.
Blue items have their own unique names and will provide better retaliation than any green I’ve seen. Green items specific to reflect, anything with the prefix “menacing”.
My very first guy from Alpha (commando I thnk, lvl 19, hardcore) died to inattention. Was standing in poison in the rat cave in act 1 (before they significantly lowered it’s damage) and my buddy who was playing on a PC in the same office found a blue item. Since everyone was dead in the cave I figured it was safe, I turned around to see what he found and then I heard the sound when your screen goes red and before I could get to the keyboard to hit potion got the “You are dead”.
Ouch, haha. I’m kinda wishing I had peeps to play with on hc on my level 33 warder who I just now got to Homestead chugging spirit pots because that one boss™ kept draining my spirit and thus nuking totem. So far I’ve been solo and it’s pretty fun to watch things blow up on me.
They have been talking about a cross-platform (between GoG and Steam) for multiplayer which would add additional games to choose from since they are divided right now. I hope they do soon as I have some friends playing on Steam and others have had their license replaced by a Gog version. We can all play on LAN when we’re able to get together but it’s difficult when we’re playing remotely.
Awesome build squib!! really outdone yourself!
I’m trying your build and loving it, lvl 55 atm.
The only this is the ranged, i don’t know what to do about them. should i get more lightning on my gear or what should i do?
Good to see the ancient order of ‘Killed by Evil Force’ still lives and upholds its traditions. Amen, brother.
Can you post the weapons you use when you switch to reflection gear ?
Thank you
I was looking for a passive-aggressive/Luigi build. Thank you.
Ranged basically comes down to two categories. Ranged weapon based and ranged caster. I’ve added these to the original post to demonstrate both using reflect gear. At the end of the caster video I show my reflect gear and total reflect percentage (279%). I used to be around 300-400% but when B31 came out most of my reflect gear had the reflect attribute removed. This is what I’ve been able to collect since.

Obviously reflect is only as powerful as the damage dished out by the enemy. From what I’ve observed it seems the formula to calculate damage reflected back is basically [their damage] x [reflect percentage] - [enemies resistance to that damage]. Where retaliation does a flat amount of damage indicated in your character’s retaliation damage list (character tab 3) and therefore can be beefed up, reflect gear is dependent on the enemy. As you can see reflect clears ranged adequately but not as quickly as retaliation does vs melee. Since 80% of the monsters are melee, I’ve made retaliation my primary and reflect my secondary.
Glad you’re enjoying it! See above regarding dealing with ranged.
You know it!
You know what might be a interesting build with the first skill of Briarthorn in combination with:
Empowered Bramblewood Amulet
Empowered Briarthorn Band
Primal Instinct
I would be curious to see how that pans out. I have other gear that compliments a pet retal build. However I fear to much would have to be sacrificed for the pet. I have a conjurer who’s in ultimate with pure pets and a pure pet focus. Even with over 100k health and high resistances I struggle to keep him alive.
