Wereraven Cold Evoker Is Fun & Fragile!

I’ve been having a blast with this build. High speed, high freeze CC, ultra-fast Ice Talon spam, gorgeous ice effects dropping all the time, such a blast! I understand the criticism of wereraven casters being a bit on the weak side compared to werewolf builds, but I’ve been able to clear bosses and dungeons solo on Ascendent with this build thus far. Would be nice to have some way to add at least a little weapon damage to Ice Talons, but otherwise I think it’s mostly in a good place.

Share your wereraven builds with me, especially cold-based ones, I’d love to see what some of you have come up with thus far.

Here is my second FoA character, Frostburn/Cold Eldrun Primalist (its about 90% Lightning Damage converted to Cold Damage).
Sustain is not good (without ADctH. only potion, cry, and some “Restores Health X%/Y Per Second”), but built for the Kite-tactics.

(remaining 1 skill point is from Allostria, it will spend for Battle Surge)

Ah, nice, I like the new Eldrun set. I considered building a Primalist like you did before settling on a cold Evoker.

Here is mine posted recently : (1.3.0.8) Reaver - Wereraven/Blade spirit Guide (SR36)
That wereraven is really not squishy ^^

I checked your buid I think you spread a bit too much into damage spell Wereraven/Devastation/Olexa/Trozan.

At least from what I tested having wereraven 26/16 and glacial talons 22/12 + Any cold spell work wonder. (if you want to use wereraven most of the time ofc)
I think with evoker that weapon can be quite good :

But I dont have a evoker yet to test he is currently leveling ^^
Wanted to try the aether wereraven but it seems cold wereraven have a lot of possibility with evoker too.

Fixed it:

Since you’re leaning a bit into lightning, though without any lightning RR this path should work nicely. Since you don’t have any weapon damage added to your attacks so Viper is kinda useless. Also, it should now be more tanky and it has far, far more skill points available. Oh and OFF doesn’t work that well against bosses, which is why usually you see far more Cold CT builds posted ever than OFF

And add missing flat -RR via Crown :stuck_out_tongue:

Plus 1000 more health :3

Looses some Wereraven stuff, but TSS is such a hard hitter it needs to be invested in properly. Also IEE line is rather potent, providing energy regen, OA, Frostburn and +Crit damage.

Lastly, I usually usually use Chariot of the Dead because it majorly increases OA and it’s proc is very good these days, but if you find Giant works for you then that’s all goo.

That’s my current set-up, the gear is almost all ascended
In game it’s about 4k OA and 2.8k DA
Decently powerfull overall

Why not use the two points in the crossroads to finish Hyrian? One more decent procc is surely better than 18 OA+DA, is it not?

All 3 points in the crossroad is the reach the affinity requirements needed

Without the purple crossroad node you can’t put points in Hyrian

The other 2 in the crossroad can’t be taken out because of the affinity requirement for other constallations

You can make it work, just need a bunch of temporary devotions along the way, then they pretty much all sustain themselves in the end Primalist, Level 100 (GD 1.3.0.8) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator

yellow pink & blue crossroad
lotus
hound
wraith
scythe
rat
chariot
murmur
hyrian
phoenix
behemoth
remove rat, wraith
harp
remove lotus & blue+pink crossroads
ultos
crown

You’re right, i am on my phone right now

I guess it depends if you value the proc from Hyrian or not

Yeah I never really care about the proc, it’s whatever, I just want that health and armor if I go hyrian

To be honest I will try with the proc because of the CC, a good quick easy test would be the celestial totems ( celestial, not tempest)

The build can do them but I wonder if the proc would change anything in that context

Yeah I agree it’s surprisingly not squishy! I suppose my original post said fragile because of the low total health, but with the constant healing from Rallying Cry and high DA it feels pretty tough for a caster. One of the reasons I’m spread out is I enjoy using many things to try them out and see what feels good, and on this build I’ve been playing with my husband a lot so I don’t need to min-max for solo play. And yes I had a look at the Olexra’s scepter, definitely want to build with it too at some point. Ty for the response =)

Thanks! I missed the Stormfang Cowl! That’s definitely a cool addition to this build/play style, glad you pointed that out!

And no I’m trying not to lean into lightning at all with this build, it’s basically pure cold. Also, I didn’t know that Viper’s RR only applied to skills that had % weapon damage, are you sure about that? And I mostly agree with your other points, I’ll take them into consideration for future variations of this build.
