What can / can't proc a "% on attack" equipment skill?

Are there any limitations on what will count as an attack for the purpose of proccing an equipment skill?

I am specifically thinking of the mythical infernal brimstone’s “100% on critical attack” rain of fire proc. Can it be triggered by a devotion scoring a critical hit? By a different equipment “% on attack” skill (I am thinking of the blazeseer set rain of fire)?

If anyone happens to know this out of hand, I’ll appreciate the help!

Your attacks / curses / auras, but not pets and procs like devotions or other item procs

From what I remember exception to the rule was Magi ring orbiting eye procs which could proc other procs too for some reason which is the reason the following worked. Or maybe that’s because they have weapon damage? :

no skill perma proccing thanks to Magi Rings (?)

Not sure if still the case.

aura perma proccing

pinging @Gnomish_Inquisition for potential correction

devos can proc stuff too
atleast debuff stuff like AM can, i don’t remember if regular attack devos could tho

debuffs in general seem to be something that allows chain proccing like the one from seal of annihilation could proc stuff too, combustion? band and such iirc

quit test on Seal of Annihilation + ice spike confirms it can indeed

seal proc is just so short duration it’s rough to trigger another anni to keep the chain going with spike cd v crit rate

Basically anything.

Other than pets.

Item procs can even proc themselves if the duration/cooldown allows. Devotion procs can proc item procs.

Weapon Damage not required.

Most things chain-proc so I would imagine that anything that crits other than a pet would proc it. That is how it seems to work on my characters

I guess in my first video it could go on forever because of these long bloody fountain procs
because in the 2nd Lightning one I added Night’s Chill since it couldn’t do that and would stop eventually (after initial attack)

Cool–thank you all so much!

Good times when Cortosian Invoker used to have 0 cooldown on its PRM-like proc.

The Ice Spike build is still doable but it probably won’t ever be good, unfortunately.

1.5s? Nobody has time for that! Incanter’s affix, Cortosian Scrolls, Runed Topaz of Gillad all have only 0.5s cooldown. It’s more fun in my opinion and more important: prettier.

you can get ice spike on almost every slot tho, Incanter is weapon exclusive, so + scrolls and amulet that’s only 3-4 procs if dual wield
now 13 slots with ice spike tho, that is pretty  (sky frags works too i think but have slightly fewer slots iirc)

I prefer the 3-4 fragments per proc. It makes 24-32 missiles per second as opposed to 9 ice spikes (but they do go through targets).
