Sometimes I find a map I really like but it has some nodes of iron/coal/sand/gold etc that are in places where I want to build houses and civic buildings. Even when I try to reroll the map, the nodes don’t shift or move elsewhere. The worst is when they are infinite nodes.
I usually try to mine the nodes before building in those areas, but sometimes they are too productive (take too long) and I just want to start building there, so I build over them. It sucks because sometimes the colour of the soil ends up looking weird next to the houses and such. And I hate having the node icon still hovering over a market or whatever.
I wish there was a way to “bury” nodes you don’t want to engage with. To cultivate the land over it so that it turns normal green/grassy and the node disappears.
Build a mine as early as possible, give its resource dedicated storage, and fill it up with workers until shelters have to be built in desirability range. At least if its clay or sand, the other resources are generally way more abundant/has alternatives other than Trading
Depends on the resource. I’ve not seen a map that is small enough not to have multiple deposits, has a vein in the center AND that vein is something you can bypass or build around. Sometimes, you can to go to some annoying lengths to use veins on the edge of the map but that’s the game.
It can sometimes help a bit to take full advantage of the maximum distance between ore node and mine placement that works. That is so long as the mine work area yellow circle touches the grey/black/gold area around the mine even by a pixel it will work. Gives a surprising amount of mine placement latitude.
What @Richard46 says. Also, if I have to place a mine in the midst of a residential area, I do. I take the hit in desirability as a fun challenge then. Then, I build around the mine, hiding it behind other buildings until everything looks nice. Yes I agree the node is anyoing. But, also I’ve learned to ignore them.
If you need to do that, you can also put down 3-4 mines to try and draw down the vein ASAP. Put up a stockyard or two and go nuts err to town umm…hog wild bananas.
Good suggestions, such as placing the mine based on the circle not the mine marker, and using multiple mines to deplete the resource for placement in a stockyard.
As far as I can tell, sand and clay mines do not cause a drop in desirability. They can be placed right in the middle of your high rent district.
Otherwise I just make sure there are enough ore nodes outside of my planned town area where the loss of one node will not matter. I won’t compromise desirability for an ore node. I need the taxes from the high rent villagers!
