What if...

What if Grim Dawn happens after Titan Quest???

What part of Greek mythology do you see in this game? And i mean direct-reference to it, not some inspiration

Manticore?

Besides, he never said anything was directly reference from Titan quest. Just a hypothetical question. I mean… we are living in an era where just about everything we do is influenced by greek mythology or philosophy, it doesn’t have to be a direct representation to share influences.

Those things

I hate those shadowstriking cats

His question is what if GD is set after TQ. GD clearly has it’s own history, it’s own pantheon of Gods. You’re correct that greek mythology has had a massive influence over modern civilization. But saying GD and TQ share the same universe is stretching it.

The only way i can see that to be possible is if, the GD Primordial Gods defeated and chained the essences of the Greek Pantheon and then started spreading tales of Chthon to make it seem like Chthon is one being and not a twisted unification of the original creators of this world. That seems a bit too tinfoily

The term C’Thonic is a greek mythological word that simply means “born of or part of the Earth.”

It’s basically an adjective to describe earth-born monsters like the cyclops, hydra, centaurs, gorgons, hecatoncheires, etc.

Yes, GD has it’s own history, but we don’t know ALL the history. In fact, we hardly know any of it, only a few recent significant events.

For example, do we know for certain the year where GD takes place? We can assume GD, with it’s advanced gun construction, is probably around 1700-1800s, minimum, assuming it follows a normal timeline. Consider for a moment, that Grim Dawn does not follow a normal timeline. Maybe it’s not taking place before our current time, but rather an era where the “dark ages” lasted even longer, or some cataclysm (hint hint, the first appearance of the Loghorrean) thrust man into another age of darkness for a period.

Now how would that connect GD to TQ? Well, Olympians are known to get bored easily and procreate with fantastic creatures or other deities and create other monstrosities or deities. For all we know, some of these primordial gods of Cairn could very well be “forgotten” greek gods, or descendants of them. I mean we have manticores, harpies, slith (kinda like a male gorgon), trolls (like a cyclops) among other things.

I mean, it’s not like we have a hard copy of a book titled, “The Thorough History of Cairn, as told by Jambalaya” where we can open it up and look through it to debunk anything. The reality is, this is a “what if” thread, if you’re gonna just say “no it’s bullshit, get the fuck out”, then sorry, there’s no proof either way. It’s highly unlikely, and the thread really shouldn’t be taken seriously, but rather it should be something to have fun with. Didn’t think that needed to be explained…

Titan Pauldrons.

I still prefer that theory that Grim Dawn and Titan Quest takes place in separete universes.

It would be interesting to see a TQesque Ch’thonic Void level since technically the Ch’thon invaded and destroyed several worlds

Dimensional travel sure does give you a lot of options when it comes to invading worlds.

That’s it, I need this in GD now. All I need in GD for it to be complete is an Ashen Waste zone with assets based off of TQ, like a ruined Greek temple that was sucked into the void during the Chthonian invasion of Greece. (Throw in a collectible Overlord/turtle item for good measure ;))

I like this teory. It’s probably not it but the connections can be made. Most of the gods in GD can be easily referenced to greek mythology. Like Ch’thon-Chronos, Empyrion-Zeus (pretty sure empyrion is an ass just like Zeus actually). They are separate universes with similar influences.

Edit: The Titan Plaudrons Ceno mentions I think could be reference to TQ stuff…

You have to remember that our world is just one world in the universe. The Aetherials and Chthonians have fought over countless worlds. It’s entirely possible that TQ and GD are in the same universe, just on different planets.

I however sincerely doubt that they are on the same planet, just a bit more advanced. Although the theory is not farfetched since Zeus and all the gods left, and you killed Hades.

Whenever I see Anasteria talking about “other worlds” I get a little bit confused. I mean, other worlds like… planets? Dimensions? “Planes”? I also imagine those dimensions as totally different universes, despite the fact that the ashen wastes looks like our dimension (houses, clocks and a confy couch) burned to the ground.

what if Grim Dawn happens before titan Quest ?

you fail to stop the forces of evil,
civilization is destroyed
1000s of years later civilization is reborn with the Greeks
