Can someone please explain why Feral Hunger is spawning on a shield???
It is not the drop that is weird, it is the item. You can also see that it has modifiers to Brute force, another 2H only skill.
Now, you are probably playing 1.3 patch because that item skill modifier is not listed in current grimtools 1.2.1.6
There are items already that makes it possible to use primal strike with 1H weapon Stormrend - Items - Grim Dawn Item Database
and it is enabled by simply equipping this axe.
Ok, if you equip this shield, you will then enable both Brute Force and Feral hunger and you can use 1H weapons with those skills.
Try it, I do not have 1.3 patch yet, but I think this is how it will work.
Interesting, I’ll have to try this - thanks!
OK, I’m definitely getting the added bonuses from Brute Force when I switch to this shield with a 1H melee weapon. I’m not sure about Feral Hunger, although I’m not being prevented from adding skill points it. This seems to affect Upheaval as well.
I guess I’ll have to record some gameplay, unless someone else has already done this.
You’re never prevented from investing into a skill regardless of weapon. It just won’t activate. If you’re getting modifiers to Brute Force and Feral Hunger on an “unsuitable” item, it enables it. It won’t carry over to Upheaval.
OK, that makes more sense.
Are you using a mod? Noble Paladin maybe?
No, this is from the v1.3.0 test.
Gotcha. Looks like there will be all kinds of customization to skills in FoA. With rerolls also? Gear is going to be fun to find and use. Yeah, I am really thinking about a hard reset and starting from scratch for this xpack. I just need to find a suitable second class for ma Zerker.
are you only gonna play one char?
There is a new mace MI for the shamblers coming out in FoA that gives physical rr to wind devils that i think would pair perfectly with this shield. @RektbyProtoss showed it off in one of his streams recently.
Physical savagery Snb Archon? Sign me up
Any item that supports a skill that is usually not able to be used with that item, will enable the skill to work with that item. Try items before assuming they are useless ![]()
I made an Archon with this shield and Bargolls root. Its actually not bad, but a bit on the squishy side. Happy to hear there’s another mace coming out. Hopefully some other items too because the other mastery combos with this shield suuuuuuck.
Agreed. But it’s easy to miss what this item will unlock, considering that other items will give a full explanation to all of its benefits (enabling dual-wield, for example).
Are you basing this off of in game, PTR play experience or Gtools? Genuinely curious as there is something I wanted to try but lack real world time to just sit down and do it after the last character. Otherwise Rekt is right about testing items in game as opposed to spreadsheet info.
@Shadowpast I leveled up a warborn ritualist, cadence warder, and savagery archon with this shield. None of them are particularly min maxed and have room for improvement.
Archon has by far the best synergy with all 3 WPS doing shield damage and 33 flat RR from shattering smash. It rolls through SR30-31 pretty quick and easily(except for mad queen being a bitch)
Ritualist has great sustain from converted reaping strike/feral hunger, but damage output is like half of the Archon. Pretty slow in SR.
Warder is crap. Less sustain and somehow even worse damage than the ritualist. Plus I hate cadence with a passion.
No. But I’ll start with the Zerker. Tho I don’t know if I will pair the new class with Nightblade (Reaver) or Inquisitor (Runekeeper).
Here I thought I was the only one.
How can you miss it, if it literally has a skill modifier to the skill in question?
Guess I must be slow, but in my 2000+ hours it never dawned on me that if an item added a skill bonus that it unlocked it, regardless of the usual skill requirements. Or maybe I just subconsciously ignored these items, only looking at the item type without actually examining it.
I can only wonder what I’ve missed… ![]()
