Oh damn it, there’s a new The Shins album out, whelp, there goes a chunk of time (their 1st 2 albums got a lot of play time from me) seeing if it’s worth it. Currently trawling through some stuff I should have tested out ages ago though, and presently finding Waxahatchee - Cerulean Salt pretty good. And somewhere in my mass of open tabs in firefox is the Don Giovanni Records playlist, still waiting to be run through…
And I see Haim have also released a new album, still pretty flawless in execution, still lacking in any soul sigh At least they’ll sell albums like hotcakes though.
F*cking love these guys, wish I could have seen them play live back in the day before Tiki Tane split from them.
Reminds me also, I need to go on a NZ electronica and related stuff binge at some point, been awhile since I dipped into it.
[edit] speaking of which: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fliSRhpQ7E Pitch Black - Ape to Angel. Heh, I really should have check these guys out a decade ago, quite like what I’m hearing so far.
First gave Unknown Mortal Orchestra a listen a couple of years ago since it’s an offshoot of the NZ group The Mint Chicks, and didn’t think much of it, but now I got the urge to listen to the track Multi-Love and now I’m hooked.
Oh and The Mint Chicks were fcking excellent, pretty much played Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! (alas, no bandcamp) to death. Sadly only saw them play live once, but it was worth it. Their last album before they broke up, Screens* wasn’t punk, more indie rock, but still pretty damn good. So much so it’s been a long term feature of my work playlist. Exhibit a for why: Hot On Your Heels), sorry about teh quality.
*Sorry, spotify was all that was available /sigh Still, they’re one of the better ways of getting to listen to stuff you can’t otherwise find via youtube or bandcamp.
Makes for a nice defuser for when I want to punch sh*t-weasels. Like home birthers who fail to any proper pre-natal stuff and end up with an undetected breach birth and all the horrible consequences that entails. /endrant
Back into some Sleater-Kinney, since I had The Woods auto-playing on my MP3 player while making dinner. Rambled through Sleater-Kinney (1st album), Dig Me Out and Call The Doctor. Along with the odd track from Hot Rock, like the brilliant opening track Start Together.
If anyone here remembers the film Fifth element, and the opera scene, well, this is it
The thing is, she doesn’t even seem to be breaking a sweat, she is really enjoying herself, and bloody hell, both stunning and what a bloody beautiful voice as well.
I found it recently, and thought it was too good not to share.
Also, youtube suggested I give some newer stuff from Garbage a listen and lo and behold, No Horses is f*cking excellent. Will likely thrash the hell out it.
