What kind of source makes high SR viable?

I’m a pretty noob to this game. (and not a native english speaker )

I finished a couple of builds I can find in this forum,

but I still don’t understand what makes some characters be put in the high tier, others not.

I know that 80% res is crucial, not to forget phys res,
that more than 3k OA/DA is also important
that at least 10k life is essential…

All of the builds look similar (in respect of chracter stats) and decent but the actual performance of beating 65-66 SR or 150-170 crucible significantly varies a lot.

I think sustainability is the key here? like ATDCH or dryad’s blessing?

If so, how much β€˜healing’ is recommended?

What do you think of putting devotions in like healing rain or obelisk(if it has a shield) instead of tier 3 constellations? (ultos, oleron…)

I’m interested in melee builds by the way.

Pet builds are… awesome…

You pretty much want layered defense for high SR so you wont get one shotted.

Spellbinder is great for that - mark of torment, mirror, nullification to purge debuffs.

Welcome to the forum!

It’s a hard concept that you’ll have to figure out by yourself in time. Because not every build has same needs. There are too many variables to say you need this much of that etc.

But let me clarify OA/DA issue for you.

OA basically determines your hit chance and crit chance. It is needed to hit cirt or to procs that are based on chance on crit hit. If your character has good crit damage to utilize or important procs that need crit hit to proc; you’ll definitely need 3k OA. But there is also debuffs like DA reduction. So if your character has 250 DA reduction for example, you can live with 2750 aswell. Though extra OA never hurts, if it’s not crucial to your build it’s not worth to sacrifice something in order to increase OA.

Note that with too low OA you might miss your attacks againts enemies have OA shred or high DA in end-game. So 2700+ is essential.

DA is the same thing for enemies perspective. It determines enemies hit&crit chance to you. Most enemies have not high crit damage to begin with up to a point and their hit chance never will be less than %60 so stacking 4k DA won’t make you immortal. On the other hand in high SR their OA and crit damage will increase so you also won’t want to get critted by some high hitter.

To understand how much DA you need, you can check your other defensive mechanisms.

My rules are these;

Does build have high armor(over 3k) and enough phys resist(over %30)?
Does build have overcapped all resistances atleast %25-30(preferable value is 40 since a few boss have %40 RR and you may encounter them as combinations/pairs.)
Does build have atleast 12-13k health?

If you can check these stats you don’t need 3k DA. You can endure some extra 1k damage. Ofc all these speculations based on you already have good sustain with lifesteal or health regen. Even if you left 1k health after one single hit, if you can regain the health quickly you won’t die.

So the mat is basically this; if your build endure more hits/crits you don’t need to stack DA. There are builds that can survive in SR 90 with 2500 DA. But to be safe I recommend you atleast 2750 aswell. In SR 75-76 nemesis will start to crit you with 2850 DA; since some of them have high DA shred. 3k will ensure that they won’t crit even when they debuffed you. But as you proceed in SR, their OA and Crit damage will increase so they will have more crit chance and more crit damage againts you.

But, there is also two other important defensive mechanism;

Damage Absorption; Flat damage absorption is the best, so skills like Inquisitor Seal, Ascension, Blast Shield etc can make you very tanky on their duration. If you have reach to those skills, you may ignore some defenses to get more damage. There is lso % damage like Maiven’s Sphere of Protection or Obsession skills.
Damage Reduction; This is also very important if you’re aiming for end-game. Even if you have good defenses, some monsters hits very hard and without reducing their damage you may not tank them. Constellation like Light of Empyrion is very good for DR, it’s AoE %24 DR, it basically means the monster get debuffed with this will deal %24 less damage.

So as I said all of these are connected to each other and can not be approached independently. If your build has good defenses, you may ignore DA.

You can also check monster scaling and their threats on here https://www.grimtools.com/monsterdb-sr/

80% res isn’t crucial, it’s mandatory. Moreover, having res overcapped by 20-30%, at least some of them, is also kind of mandatory.

10k life is low for SR. Pros may be able to pull high SR with this kind of health but I don’t think there’s many people who will be able to reproduce that. Still, while low health is a no go high health doesn’t really guarantee the build will be good either.

3k DA is overrated and 3k OA isn’t always mandatory either.

You didn’t mention damage reduction, which is actually one of the best layers of defense.

Yes, to some degree. But Dryad Blessing is rarely found in high end builds.
There are no clear rules on how much healing is recommended because it’s yet again a factor of other parameters.

A very terrible idea. It’s not spelled out very often but above anything else you need damage. If you don’t have enough damage then it doesn’t matter how much defense you have. Which is why there’s less difference between Crucible and SR builds than people like to imply and why SR builds don’t just stack yellow-blue constellations unless it’s physical or retal build.

It’s very easy. According to the forum experts the whole deal is in the camera abuse.
On a serious note:

  1. Get enough defence not to be oneshotted by hardly kitable enemies (Iron Maiden, Alkamos)
  2. Get enough damage to kill enemies fast
  3. Improve your piloting skill

Well pets or conjurer pets are a special occasion since you can stack ridiculous amount of health on all of them, cap their resistance and they still do decent damage.

This means you can keep sending them to absorb all the hardest hits in the game - ravagers hits/gravathul’s nullification/arcane mobs/mad queen spikes/alek meteor/kaisan lightning all suddently focused on someone else and conjurer’s pets tank really well. Yourself mostly don’t have to worry about anything unlike other solo builds since your β€œfriends” just take care of the hassel.

Meanwhile poor cablists with his frail skeletons gets 2 million dps dropped to 20k dps within seconds because a boss sneezed at skeleton’s general direction.

Cabalists can always go with Blightfiends / Reap spirits :stuck_out_tongue:

forgets about the existence of Skeletons
