I have been doing tons of rogue dungeon lately as a mix of farm levels and items since i pretty much have no lvl60+ items :o have to stop rerolling… anyways.
I started thinking about why there are merchants in all rogue dungeons, looks like they all have specific item type (SoT sells ‘ghost’ items) but they have way less number of items compared to a regular merchant, they also have a handful of components, mainly common/easy/cheap components, and they have 1 blueprint that looks like is 99.9% some kind of potion and i never found one i didnt had. You cant even sell items to that merchant.
My point is, why the hell is he there? 1 Skeleton key for what he offers is worthless. I guess he could be considered a sidebonus for the skeleton key price while you farm there but after a while I stopped looking for him, even passed by without looking what he has.
If he had the possibility of selling rare or expensive components, or maybe components that people dont have unlocked yet, maybe if that blueprint had a reasonable chance of being a item/relic blueprint. Maybe if I could just empty my bag.
What you guys think about him? Its fine right now? Could it be changed? Or remove?
The one I consider usefull is the BoC one (and I feel like BoC is the less worthy of my time dungeon so it is a nice added bonus)
The Axe can be BiS (Forcewave build) he sell Bloodsworn Signet (once again can be BiS) and the shield is used to craft Shieldbreaker (which was by far BiS in a lot of shield build).
The Spectral item in SoT are IMO pretty limited and I never found out that Port had anything really worthwhile. Some Component are usefull (they happen to sell stuff like Ectoplasm or some “rare” component) and I have completed my Potion BP collection using them so they do have some utility.
I probably only look over BoC and PV vendors. BoC one sells pet rings that only do drop from Karroz in the main campaign and PV for the Pulsating Shards off-hand that drops only from Amalgamation for an AAR build.
I guess it would be nice if their item quality was greatly improved (no white and single roll magic ones) and/or new items would be added to their stock (ex. PV vendor would always have 1 Elixir of the Aether and 1 Aether Cluster in stock).
they were useful way back before release, back when components had random completion bonuses and rare components were extremely hard to find (took me a couple hundred hours at least to complete my first dread skull), SoT was worth farming if only for the guaranteed rare component sold by the vendor
now they don’t really serve any purpose short of the MI pet rings in BoC
You get rep by buying and selling, at each rep status merchants lower their selling price by n%, buy legendaries for a lot of iron and a quest for recipe you havent already unlocked
