Chthon - I am in this exact position. I haven’t made a caster yet (except for pokemon) and I’m worried I won’t like the playstyle. What should I expect?
Not sure if this addresses you issue / complaint / question / whatever 
, but I assign ranged attacks to RMB, so that I do not need to press SHIFT to remain in place.
I started off with casters and noticed attaching them to LMB worked like a charm for me. Or do as the post above me tells you to, attach them to RMB. Both work, it depends on what you’re comfortable with
