I was just doing some random googling, and this was one of the questions I looked up, but I didn’t really find any existing threads.
As such, I figured I would ask. I’m curious to hear what you have to say
None of them. I rarely venture into the rogues and with mutators being added when FG comes out I’ll venture in there even more rarely.
This should probably be a poll. I don’t play any of them often as I am not much of a grinder. I play through the campaign and then play another char, that is my grind.
If I were to grind them, I’d switch between them to make it less repetetive, so still no favorite
Steps of torment because I think it is the easiest one
Poll added. Might be useful for the devs to see which ones are most popular.
-
Bastion of Chaos: It always seems to have the most heroes, so more drops.
-
Ancient Grove: Ugdenbloom is more likely to drop and the environment isn’t as monotonous as the others.
-
Steps of Torment: Compared to the others, for me at least, SoT spawns a lot less heroes. If not for Alkamos, I would honestly just quit the game after clearing the Chamber of Souls.
4: Port Valbury: My least favorite is Port Valbury because of the all aether fire, annoying navigation, and it’s too big.
SoT is the best, because there is no charging giants, can get Moosilauke and solael’s pants on the way.
Worst is BoC, the same red-black layout spanned for 3 levels, the only unique drop is from the boss and the chance on encountering Benny is so low I’ve seen him less in BoC over 50 runs than Valdaran in Valbury over way less runs.
I personally think that SoT is just the fastest and boring to do in general (also kind of linear as heck). BoC is just long and complicated because of the paths etc etc etc blah blah. BoC is boring as heck too and sometimes annoying. PV is totally boring as heck and dangerous as two hecks. You do one bad step and you can die or get hunted by these motherf… I mean annoying as holy poop whirls of lightning and aether, which DON’T EVEN DO LIGHTNING AND AETHER DAMAGE because they mostly do %HP damage. Fuck you PV. AG is just chill as bacon (idk, don’t ask) and actually fun to do. You also can kill 3 side bosses, 1 nemesis (if lucky) and one main boss in addition to the place where the pandora box is. AG Also has a nice vendor, which is very useful.
Some people might disagree with me, and if they do, they should know I can facetank everything they send on me and I don’t care about your opinions. #MotherfuckerConfirmed I’m actually kidding with this paragraph. But I still can facetank you.
Ironically my fav, for fast leveling from 75-100, purples drop like candy, if you need them, that’s all I think,
As for Benny, if you ever need something from him it’s better to run BoC than not at all. He seems to spawn once every 4-5 runs for me.
New rogue for lots of MI
My only reason for doing AG is actually that vendor, the final boss is more scary than my mother in law
Ancient Grove.
It´s the latest, so I haven´t run it a trillzillion times, it´s not dark ´n dank, and it´s about the right size. Plus I don´t really like to farm Ugdenbloom, so I can do that on the side, so to speak.
But I kinda like them all.
I love “Some people might disagree with me, and if they do, they should know I can facetank everything they send on me and I don’t care about your opinions.”
I like SoT because it is full of spooky ghosts and it makes me feel like I am running through a haunted mansion. I love the Grim Dawn environmental details through all the different biomes though. As a whole, this game looked into my heart and gave me what I was looking for for all these years.
Good idea!
I myself have yet to do Valbury or the Grove, but I am almost level 100, and I will attempt them soon.
As a bleed build, all I can say is that Steps is a bit brutal for me with their resistances, and so far I favor BoC.
I still haven’t done Anasteria’s rogue-like quests because of SoT on my bleeding character. I’ve finished the whole game on ultimate too, even did Lokarr few times, lol…
Port Valbury for me, although admittedly I ran SoT the most in AoM.
Port Valbury remains my favourite for the story, environment and length. Aether ground never really bothered me that much (and thanks to Seal of Ancestry its now less of an issue than ever), and while it might not be the best for legendary farming, that’s not a huge factor for me. I’m still waiting for those MI belts to get a buff though, hopefully they’re included in that “MIs getting conversion” tease I vaguely remember Zantai making a while back.
Ancient Grove is probably the most well-rounded though, and in terms of layout, loot, length and l…encounters it’s probably the ideal template for any hypothetical future roguelikes. While PV is still my favourite, AG is admittedly the one I probably find most fun of the four.
Steps of Torment is nice. Short and sweet, but doesn’t particularly stand out that much since it looks and feels like every other Arkovian dungeon.
BoC is…uh. shrug Once I get my Lv94 Worldeater I can’t see myself playing it that much. It’s fine, I guess.
I’m actually a big fan of Steps of Torment still. Although there isn’t any dungeon I still dislike (I have to use the word ‘still’ because it took Port V awhile to really warm up on me)
^^ Agreed. My choices as well. Port Valbury is the pits… Ground damage should be removed from the game honestly - it’s not fun whatsoever. (I’m aware you can mod it out, but personally I think it just shouldn’t exist)
I really dislike Port Valbury, due to the layout and the chances of dying
the other ones I’m pretty much fine with, but if I would have to make an order of favorites it would be:
- Bastion of Chaos (loooooot!!!)
- Ancient Grove
- Steps of Torment
Ancient Grove is a lot of fun: possibility of relevant Nemesis spawn, quite a few purple bosses with really good MI drops, a lot of components to farm, and sometimes something that might challenge you (but not really if you play a top build that can farm Crucible 150-170).
But my personal favourite is Port of Valbury. Yes, ground damage is annoying, and running to this skeleton key gates is already a chore, but the vibe that this map gives is still grim af: whole city destroyed, all those notes from survivors about to meet their grim fate, probably the best part of game’s soundtrack. For me it’s the essence of Grim Dawn (not the game, but the horrible event that took place in game’s world).
