I’m still not sure what the vault is supposed to provide the town. All I ever see in it is some shields and the occasional hauberk or sword. I have 30k gold pieces clogging up my storehouses and no gold in the vault.
Uncheck the gold storage in those other facilities. The villagers will start storing the gold in the vault.

You should move it to the vault, it’s the first thing raiders grab from a storehouse.
How do we do that?
If you uncheck gold in the storage it should theoretically be moved and stored in the vault.
Uncheck gold from the storage of every building but the vault.
Transfer all of the gold to the trading post.
Transfer the gold back to global storage.
This does not work as expected, its probably bugged. So, its year 9 and I have buildt my vault (actually I bought the iron from a merchant to be able to build it). All my gold ingots are currently stored at the storehouse. I let the workers at the trading post haul all gold into the trading post. Then I uncheck to gold ingots at the storehouse. At the vault they are checked by default. Then I let the workers move the gold away from the trading post.
After it shows again on the upper right corner of my UI, that the gold ingots now returned to my global storage, they do NOT show up in the vault though. They also do not show up anywhere else, I even checked the moving cart 
So either this is buggy or its not the way you move things. In my understanding, it should be sufficient to uncheck any item in any storage, and if you have free space anywhere else, workers have to start to move things around. Doing this via the trading post should not be necessary in the first place.
This is a known bug at the traders post. The gold is still available to you, and if you disabled gold all around the town in all storage, it’ll start appearing in the vault.
Its correct that the value remains available, but the ingots do not show up anywhere. I dont have other buildings that could hold them, not even a forge yet. Do you mean it will take time until they show up in the vault? If so, how long does it take? Thanks!
The gold ingots are available and as you go about your normal game play you will use them. That specific gold will not appear in the vault (to my understanding) but new gold earned (market, taxes, etc.) will.
I can say that I have never had gold stolen that was stored in the “invisible” global storage. But then my traders house is inside the same well guarded fortress as my vault.
I understand we share the same experience. The only gold ingots showing up in the vault are the ones you will earn after you have completed building rhe vault. What does not work at all (and it should be intended to work) is to transfer any existing ingots into the vault. It simply wont happen, not if you uncheck them anywhere else, and not if you wait a year. Its rather that these ingots disappear into the void - or lets say they turn into some kind of prehistoric plastic money, instead 
Thus, the vault does not work as intended / as expected, as its main function should be to secure your gold - oh wait, but from the void the ingots cannot be stolen? Hmmmm…

Think of them as using medieval bitcoins, same thing really, into the void…

Thanks for the info. Considering our rather limited access to our gold in the void, that’s rather unfortunate.
Interesting, I didn’t know that was possible. I typically have my trading post and vault in the same area and defended. It’s good to know.
I haven’t seen the game tell me where something is stolen from. Gold is kept at both the forge and the market temporarily as it’s being made/earned. Are you certain it wasn’t taken from one of those 2 places?
That’s very possible, bits of gold build up in the market before/if it gets to the vault.
If you deconstruct the trading building then you will understand where the gold is hiding.
It was posted somewhere in a thread about the raiders who only hit the trading post and left stealing gold. poster was adamant they emptied the gold each time so…
But hey they might have missed some one, the gold might be safe with chthon in the void 
just not sure I’d be the poor villager sent to retrieve it if that’s where it is…
