It makes no sense that every time raiders appear they spend a great deal of time simply destroying low stone walls and farm gates that I’ve placed to protect crops from enemies. I am constantly losing crops to wildlife and then having to priority back all the gates… what is the obsession with gates… it’s ridiculous that they would bother to simply demolish farm gates instead of go after primary targets… can this not be stopped when raiding gets a fix? not that much at all, if anything makes any sense about the raiding system anyways, but that’s a longer story
Yeah, posted about this in another thread. It is fairly weird they prefer to break down multiple fences instead of just walking through the already broken down one right next to them, or avoid the farm completely and simply walk to the city wall, which is not blocked by the farm.
I don’t have issues dealing with the raiders due to having a lot of towers, but the deer that swarm the fields and eat all my crops, does cause quite the problem afterwards.
The AI prioritizes entrances, but it seems like there’s no difference to them between gates and fence gates.
they are afraid of otherworldy beings doing isekai invasion from these gates. grim dawn reference!
nah seriously its probably just a problem with raider ai prioritization
you know the amount of deer that munch on crops when they are open makes me think. What if we build a crop of only clovers leave one part open and place a hunter close. Don’t need a deer spawn spot lol.
hmmmm
Make the smallest clover field you can and build a fence around it but leave like 10 spaces on the one side thats open so they actually have to go deep inside of it. Then place a hunter outside…
engineer thinking haha Take a negative and figure out how to make a positive … fat deer meat.
Just an guess here, but it is likely because most often you are putting a road through that gate. Raider/villager AI is set to take the fastest path and with roads giving increased travel speeds, those are most often the preferred way to travel. The game does not calculate the time saved by going around. It just says ‘road is close and faster - kill the gate to proceed’ and sends as many raiders to it as can attack at once and the rest move on to somewhere else. Again though, only my guess based on what I see.
Actually, apparently you can just fence in the deer spawn. When they respawn after being killed, it will be within the fence so they can’t get out and your hunters have an easy time. Could probably do it with boar as well, but villagers tend to retreat on sight of those, so build an enclosure would be difficult. Plus then, they can’t eat your crops because they are trapped. Well, until the raiders decide to let them out.
I’m just saying you wouldn’t need a spawn point as they seem to always come to the open crop field even when there is no deer around, they just show up. They make a straight dash to your fields. Call it medieval food delivery “Ding Dong” your venison is here!
Nah, it happens with fence gates with no roads through them too, and in some cases the raiders even leave a few that have roads through them.
This is a nice way to get deer on a map that doesn’t have many deer spawns. Even if you leave one gap in the fence to your regular fields with a hunter at the gap he should kill any deer before they monch
Anyway back on topic, when the raiders attack the ones that decide to kick down my fences the whole time are the only ones that survive. The rest die to a triangle lattice of towers wrapped with walls. ( Triangle lattice means when you attack one there are three others that can shoot you. )
I’ve tried that. My hunter has his cabin adjacent to the field the deer always eat. But he always has to be instructed to kill them. I think they are programmed to kill one deer then spend 3 months butchering it before catching another. That means usually he is already busy when they are on the crops.
