Why did Warden Krieg bite me on Veteran?

Here is my build (Turn on all of buffs from right-bottom corner):

My build

I didn’t die and I didn’t use any health potion. But I spammed “Pneumatic Burst” billion times.

I think my hero is too weak; but in spite of the fact that I have collected too much iron bits, I have not find any valuable weapon at vendors.

Vendors sell shitty items on veteran.

But, I can craft Storm’s Edge. Should I craft this weapon in spite of the fact that my cold build? Or should I go Steps of The Torment or Forgetten Gods for farming?

What is wrong with my build?

PS: By the way, I have eaten Salazar, it was piece of cake for me, haha.
PS2: I have facetanked Warden Krieg. I didn’t run away even one time.
PS3: God bless Ghoulish Hunger, it has saved my ass.

Krieg is maybe overtuned on Veteran, actually one of the hardest bosses when leveling up because he has so many hit points and does so much damage while all your abilities are still kind of weak. It doesn’t help playing Nightblade because it’s a late bloomer. Don’t be concerned that you’re failing or can’t play the game because Veteran Krieg is kicking your ass; he does the same for everyone.

I’ve been killing Krieg on Veteran for years with fresh Nightblades. It’s my favorite mastery. Honestly, even after the rebalancing of Norm/Vet last year he is still absolutely doable on Vet - enough so that anyone that considers themselves a “Vet” should be able to handle him with relative ease with pretty much any mastery - especially with Nightblade and its high damage potential. I would also note that I can’t remember the last time Krieg got me on Veteran.

Looking at the OP’s GT link it’s hard to say “why” he got “bitten” by Krieg as it appears that he did alot “right”. He managed his resists very nicely - just further proof of something I’ve been saying for a very long time to noobs… it is completely possible to have most your resists capped or nearly capped by your mid-20’s with smart management.

Personally, I would have had points in Dual Blades and I would have had more in ABB and have taken Lethal Assault as well. Having SS maxed is too high a price to pay that early in the builds life imo - both in terms of points that could be better spent elsewhere and in terms of high energy cost.

Other than that proper timing and usage of both Pneumatic Burst and health pots should have easily allowed him to take Krieg down and facetank him while doing so. I do it all the time. I’d need to see actual video of him with Krieg to be able to say what he did wrong.

I am unsure what the OP is asking tho since he claims Krieg didn’t kill him and he didn’t run away… so what’s the issue? You claim he “bit” you in your title - which implies death - but then say you didn’t die and didn’t run away… soooooooo ??

Once you avoid the stomp in phase 2 (which has a wind-up and is predictable with his pattern) and don’t run away to push him into using his spread fire shots (or carefully avoid them), Krieg isn’t that threatening. I’ve beaten him several times in Elite with Lokarr gear and on some of those characters in Ultimate in Lokarr’s set as well.

This is correct. Veteran is overtuned for the first 30 levels or so. The difficulty of veteran pretty much peaks at warden fight, it’s gonna decline from that point onwards.

When I used to play on Veteran I remember that Krieg and Zarthuzellan were the two toughest bosses. Generally you will die more on Veteran than on Ultimate (actually I almost never die on Ultimate). And it is still easily doable with only a very few deaths. You might have low aether resitance for Krieg. You also need physical resistance. Put some points into dual blades. Don’t go far away from him, he will shotgun you.

Also when playing Ultimate I found Nicholas Balthazar to be the most annoying one of those lesser bosses. He can hit hard.

Should I craft Storm’s Edge (https://grimdawn.fandom.com/wiki/Storm’s_Edge)?

Melee engagement is not a suitable choice vs Warden, his close range attacks deal a lot of dmg with debuffs. Also dual-weild NB early is pretty weak. VoS/Night’s chill is a good leveling skill, I always max it, equip items with suffix of winter’s storm, kite around and watch mobs die.

Is that so? Can anyone explain to me then why it is that I’ve been face-tanking and killing Warden with dw melee NB’s on Veteran for years now with no problems then - before and after the Veteran rebalancing?

lol seriously. Some of you people are messing me up with that stuff. You act like you don’t know how to play the game. It looks like I’m going to have to roll a fresh NB and record it stomping a mudhole in Warden’s ass for ya’ll to understand it’s gravy train.

Arrogance? Did I trigger you? If you dont help here, stop acting like an *******. Most ppl in this thread says he’s tough, we wants feedback, not another pro be like.

More like made me laugh. We are talking about Veteran here… meaning there are firm implications and aspirations that you know what you are doing… no need to be pro. Just need to understand the game - which is what Veteran is about. The OP clearly understands what he’s doing - his character is solidly built for the most part.

I have yet to understand what it is that he’s wanting since it appears that Warden isn’t killing him. Frankly I’m shocked to see some of the people saying some of the things they are saying. You’ve been playing long enough that you should know how to handle such a scenario with just about any build.

And in all honesty, to me, spreading talk that NB is weak early Veteran and “not suitable” vs the Warden is essentially spreading misinformation that isn’t even close to being true. Dual-wield melee NB is 110% capable of mopping up everything it comes across in Vet. Early on and later.

Please do not fight under my topic. I do not want to any behaviour which might be break someone’s heart.

I think, we can talk respectfully.

What is the meaning of the “/thread 10” in GD vocabulary?

Post must have at least 10 characters.

You dual wield chaos damage and physical damage weapons. Nightblade supports neither. Pick either cold, acid or pierce damage. You use skills that are for non DW melee (ring of steel and ABB) yet you DW melee. For DW melee use the dual blades line of skills. For Krieg fix your aether res and have some armor or phys res. For support of cold, acid or pierce damage use Night’s Chill on Veil of Shadow.

After killing Krieg you will move to a new section of map and there you will need pierce resistance.

Physical res there also. So another vote for putting points in Dual Blades. One of the most common beginner mistakes is ignoring Dual Blades when they are dual-wielding. Early on it is very difficult to get physical resist.

Should I remove points which I have spent to SS and RoS?

What problem are you actually having? Any changes we make are just nit-picking really, your character is OK. Dual Blades can help but it’s not needed to take away damage to get it this early in the game, no character played by anybody has high phys res at level 30.

I have decided to start a new game. Because I have a serious item shortage.

I have 98,000 iron bits; but this money is useless; because vendors sell shitty weapons.

Yes, one of my weapons is based on “physical damage”, another one is chaos damage. Because this game does not give any cold based weapon (I mean good ones).

I think I should start a new game and build physical damage build; because this way, it will get billion times easier. Because finding physical damage weapon is piece of cake.

The vendors never sell MI’s, except the ones in the dungeons like Ancient Grove and a few secret ones in the world. If you keep going to Homestead then the best piercing weapon for a Nightblade drops off the dermapterans.

And actually, there is a good one even earlier than that in Act I too. Kill crabs until you get two of these: https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/14057

Honestly you would have been just fine at this early point in the game finding swords (or anything, really) with basic cold dmg or piercing bumps on them and attack speed bonuses - and then simply built up from there.

I utilize the merchants for gear to cover holes frequently. You just need to know what to be watching for and how to go about it. NB’s can be squishy but they have no issues with damage output.
