When looking through Devotion Procs i noticed that most of them, especially “on attack” and “on critical hit”, are centered on your character and only hit enemies close to you. this is based on their descriptions, so if i am wrong, please tell me. But based on that observation:
wouldn’t it make more sense to have defensive procs like “on block” or “on getting hit” be close ranged, while all offensive ones should be centered around the enemies hit?
i planned to build a ranged proccer as a fun second char and i only found fetid pool as an option for a ranged poison proc and that one is defensive to boot!
examples for poison, but similar options are given for lightning
e.g.: - manticore: 4 m range
- tainted eruption: 10m target area sounds like it could hit anywhere on
screen, but the flavour text says “the corruption within you is
unleashed in a massive explosion” which makes me think it is based
around my character.
- Guardian’s Gaze: 0.3m radius, circles around you
- Scorpion Sting: 0.1m radius, “erupt around you”, but how far do the
projectiles go?
i am really unsure what to look out for when looking at devotion procs without testing each one out, hopefully i am just misinterpreting the text
Manticore procs on target. Scorpion goes about 2-3m in all directions. For acid you’ll need Rumor that also procs on target. Yugol’s not half bad, and that’s pseudo pet dmg pools. Fetid Pool is crap. Guardian’s Gaze is only good when you have the right skill to proc it.
In my opinion it doesn’t really matter because ranged in GD = melee with an option to score 1-2 hits before they close on you.
Yeah i guess, but it’s not satisfying for me.
It’s just a neat feeling of having lightning or whatever proc in the enemy hordes far away, rather than having it on top of the character, who’s already having 3 auras, attack animations and sometimes pets crowded around, which makes it just a clusterfuck of FX centered on the character.
Thanks for the clarification on manticore and scorpion.
are the lightning procs any better? from the description they all seem to start at your character, but they can chain-lightning the way through enemy groups.
on my oppressor, item procs are working way better in that regard, usually it’s a lightning bolt going off in the distance, triggered by spectral wrath damage.
Chain lightning procs start from the character and spread to enemies, like Ultos Devotion. Doombolt, Lightning bolt and Fallen Skies hit the enemies directly. Magma Orb pops under the enemies. Procs from Dawnshard, Horn of Korvaak, Oath rings and Fire Pants (Hellforged and Ignaffar) start from character. The proc of the Harmony Set and Mythical Reign of Ice and Fire rings is a sort of a guardian gaze (circles around you) but with better range.
you are the king!
what is the initial range of chain lightning effects? does it seek the nearest foe on the screen or does he have to be close? if the range is decent, then i’ll just go with a lightning purifier and tweak some passive attack skills to my liking. if not, i can either change initial hit range for all relevant devotion skills or i just build a new mastery around passive procs.
