Why is Salazar a bounty quest if you only get one chance at him? It ruins the faction

I had absolutely no idea about this bounty quest, no idea I would only ever find one Strange Key, so I went in and got killed at what I think was near the end of the dungeon. Now I have no way of going back in there, which means that I can no longer do bounty quests for Devil’s Crossing, which means I can’t advance in that faction, which means I can’t buy the good stuff like blueprints. This just has to be a mistake. How could you possibly know beforehand?

Is there any way of removing this bounty quest and moving on to do others?

You are getting that wrong. Once you use the Strange Key to enter the Depraved Sanctuary it becomes available forever without the need of another key, meaning that you’re free to kill Salazar as many times as you want.

as far as I know the only boss fight that you can only complete once per playthrough is the optional ulgrim one

I think your confusion may be from the guy IN Devil’s Crossing. You can obtain the key two ways.

  1. Killing Cultist have chance to drop it
  2. Direni in Devil’s crossing if you let him live “Cultist Among Us” I think is the quest he gives you along with the key.

From what I have been able to ascertain, if you go the quest route and let him live, Direni will turn up as a boss to fight in Cronley’s hideout. If you get the key from the cultist, and kill him in Devil’s Crossing, he won’t show up because he woke up dead.

“Mang, dat crazy, how he gonna wake up dead?”

“Cause when he went to sleep… he was still ALIVE!”

“WORD”

Advancing in any faction is actually better to just complete quests and killing monsters. you would not be slowed down in any way by just playing through the game, you do not have to worry about bounties at all.

It’s OK to get bounties (especially for bosses), that dont interfere much with your business. For example, if you need Seals of Binding, you may get bounty on Salazar and go farm cultists there, and kill him as a bonus.
Just dont accept all bounties indiscriminately.

Yes, simply start a new play session. Salazar will respawn and, as said, you don’t need another key to enter the area. It’s not one of the rogue-like dungeons where you do need another skeleton key to try again. Once the Depraved Sanctuary door is unlocked it stays unlocked for that character on that difficulty.

BTW, about Strange Key…
On Normal, it drops almost immediately, but on elite/ultimate, i have to plow though hundreds of cultists to get it. It’s ridiculous.

RNG at work I guess. What you could try (because I don’t know if they carry over difficulties) is if you have a strange key drop, put it in your personal stash and then if you get another either use it or stash it too. Then you’d have spare keys to try on the other difficulties.

Sure they carry over, but isnt that a bit awkward - to hide secondary quest/area behind so low drop chance, that players has to keep an item till Ultimate?

As said just RNG at work. Sometimes people haven’t found one until they get into the Mournedale area.

well it is recommended to let Direni in devils crossing live so you don’t have to farm for a key and so that he spawns in crowley’s hideout

Sometimes? I’d say it’s is a common rule, that you dont find any key even after you get to Asterkarn Valley.
“RNG at work” isnt an excuse for too low drop rate. 5% drop rate and 0.05% drop rate both are “RNG”, but first would allow played to get a key fairly quickly in average, while second would require thorough farming.

If you do nothing, he spawns there too…

I don’t see the issue with the drop rate either as Depraved Sanctuary is completely optional. The only reasons to ever go there that I can think of are the one-shot chest at the end or if you need Salazar’s blade for something (crafting or on a pets character).

The developers even give you 3 chances at a free key - taking Direni’s deal in Normal/Veteran, Elite or Ultimate. And the item you need for it is essentially right next to the rift for Burrwitch Village.

I DID let Direni live. I had a Strange Key. ONE key. It got used up when I opened the door. Now the door tell me I need a new Strange Key.

I have cleared the area north of Devil’s Crossing a couple of times, but no more keys.

Are you on a different difficulty to when you opened the door before? Because it needs a new key for each difficulty, but once opened it should stay open. Or did you do it with a different character and are confusing opening the door with that one rather than this?
