I like playing complete ARPG games. The reason is I played through the base game as a character and then some DLCs and content released and I have to run through the base game again collecting missing quests etc. because I don’t want my char to be missing important rewards like skill or ability points added later in these DLCs.
I played GD Definitive and thought it’s a complete game, I have like 4+ high lvl characters in my save file, and this Asterkarn is forcing me to update all my characters to the DLC.
What do I do? Because after the update they all become dated.
Should I just delete all my characters and save the shared loot only? Does anyone have this kind of crap?
EDIT: here is what I mean in general not tied to GD, I finished a game on 3 difficulties and have a complete character. But later devs released a quest with some HP reward, and now I have to play this character looking for this quest on all difficulties or I am missing some HP. Not to mention I have to meticulously research changelogs or play as a fresh character to see what’s new if it’s even possible to notice a missing previously quest!
you can opt to not update, and your game/campaign and progress stays the same
if you do play FoA i’m almost gonna venture a guess the new/already existing "retro reward"completion effect/system would be equally added to FoA classified important quests that give skills/attributes, ie you only have to complete that quest in FoA on Ultimate, and if there were any rewards on norm/elite they get included accordingly
*assumption, but i can’t see why they’d decide to divide that feature now
or they do like with FG, rewards are Ult exclusive anyway, so if you’re level 100 you have no need to go back to norm/elite except for flavour
They can’t work on this engine anymore so yes , that’s the last expansion but they will do regular updates and patches for balance and re-balance
Why can’t they work on this engine anymore?
Because with this expansion they’re pushing it to its limits.
They’re developing their own game engine now which will be used for the RTS game and then for GD2.
Everything is written here for current GD and will probably be updated for DLC Quests - Official Grim Dawn Wiki
Or important quest checklist in Grim Tools which is going to be updated for sure Grim Dawn Checklist
I’d work on ignoring this compulsion because gaming is meant for having fun rather than anxiety.
The engine was used in Titan Quest and is ancient. ![]()
The GD devs have updated the engine, but it is almost 20 years old, and it’s time for a new engine.
Well, as Crate have said several times over the years do you know how old Unreal engine is? Even older tbh, but if you have lots of people who can work on updating it all the time then you can keep it going forever.
Crade decided they wanted a new generation of their game engine so that’s what they’ve been developing.
Yes, Fangs of Asterkan will be Grim Dawn’s final DLC. It will receive at least 2 post-release content updates.
O yah, we’ve heard this one before. FRICKIN SUSPISH.
See the 2nd post in this thread.
Beyond the expansions, Grim Dawn had a lot of content updates and balance patches, and more balance patches will probably come. The big balance patches may specially cause a big switcheroo, so you open one of your old character and now see you have 100% overcap in 5 resistances, but 79% of 80% in another, for example.
If you are a crazy optimizer, like me, you would feel like you have to switch augments/components/etc. But is that really necessary if you are not even going to play that character anymore more than half an hour?
In the end, it is important to be able to know when you finished a character and move on. Maybe just revisit it quickly when you want to remember how it played, but don’t waste time running 10 shards of boredom Shattered Realm just for one extra skill point.
And this is one of the great things of Grim Dawn. It allows you to reach max level, finish a character and move on to another.
TLDR: just keep your favorite character and retire the others once FoA comes out.
after the new Top 20 is released
and if it contains a lot of mad_lee’s builds
Hello
I wouldn’t mind Grim Dawn 2, and i know you are going to make Grim Dawn 2. However, i would of rather see Crate making a new ARPG not Grim Dawn related. But yeah, good luck man
I like GD, but I agree with this statement. Mostly because I don’t like the setting, when I try to remember Grim Dawn words like sludge, sewers, desperation, depression, yellow filter, swamps come to mind. This is why I prefer TQ which is light-hearted yet formidable.
To be specific and my opinion, which is off course subjective like everything else.
I love Grim Dawn’s mechanics, not so much the lore and theme because i prefer TQ setting over this like you too.
There’s always the possibility of Chthonian Devourer Armor DLC for $2.50.
FoA will probably be the last major DLC for the game, but we can’t be sure. And, no, the fact that the devs say it will be the last is not a reason to be sure it will be the last. They said that Forgotten Gods would be the last DLC, but they changed their mind since, so we cannot be sure it won’t happen this time again.
But, if I were a betting man, I would bet that FoA will indeed be the last expansion.
Old engines is good! This engine is even better than UE5
Time again it has been proven that Graphics don’t make a game but gameplay does.
