First, I like the change of making wind devils permanent. It is the right decision and makes playing with them more manageable. It was rather annoying to be forced to summon them repeatedly constantly.
However, after playing with them for a while, I noticed a few issues:
The constant rustling sound of the wind devils becomes invasive and annoying. It is like a layer of sound that interferes with the ambient sounds and music.
If three wind devils are summoned, they usually center in or close to the character. The problem is that it partially obstructs the character and his/her clothes. It is like a graphical intrusion.
The wind devils are permanent, but you must still summon each individually. What for? They are permanent now, so a gradual summoning has become obsolete.
I would suggest the following:
Make the rustling sound of the wind devils considerably more silent and soft. It should not be an irritating background noise.
Maybe rearrange the positioning of the wind devils so they no longer graphically interfere with the character. Optionally, create a new look for them. After all, they are spirit-like creatures.
Let the character summon all of them at once. Summoning each of them gradually seems completely pointless.
Not? Those are literally mini-twisters, tornadoes, hurricanes, whatever, so not sure what people are expecting. Like, you can literally hear just regular wind blowing. Blade Spirits also make quite a lot of noise, but those are a bunch of blades spinning, so [kinda] makes sense. Now, I remember people complaining about Guardians of Empyrion “speaking” too much, and their chatter was actually reduced - those guys are really “spirit-like” though.
Maybe not so much since the more devils you have the more noise they make. Maybe someone is content with just one of them (using just for RR and not caring about its coverage). Again, Blade Spirits and GoE are the same, and all of them have no cooldown for quite a while now, so it’s a non-factor honestly.
I think one summon at a time is ok, sometimes you want to deliberately cast one at a particular location, without all three respawning.
I do think the visual is a bit strong on them, could do with a bit more transparency, at least towards their edges. They can block a bit of what’s going on when all on top of the action.
Or we could just, you know, get rid of the annoying white noise so it’s not so irritating to summon 3 in the first place
Honestly these things sound like a malfunctioning speaker. Also agree with them being too visually noisy. Player should not be completely obscured by them
Doesn’t the same alternate summoning of Empyrion’s guards bother you? Are these winds making you tense? Is it so hard to press the call button 3 times?
I didn’t realised how bad the sound from 3 Wind Devils was since most the time i play with some music or video from youtube on my second monitor. But I agree that it has to change
Sound is not an issue for me (but it’s ok also if they get silenced) but their behaviour to stay directly on the character instead of beside it (like guardians) it’s a bit annoying.
Not noticing the sound myself. I do feel that they’re a little more aggressive than they used to be now which is good. Just wish they’d go a bit further from my character like ordinary pets do. Still that’s a player based pet thing I guess, they always stick closer.
The other player-damage pets, like the Guardians or the Blades, should also be adjusted accordingly. For example, the Blades often look like they cut the character in half. This doesn’t look very sensible. It would be better if the Blades did not penetrate the character. Similarly, the hammers of the Guardians sometimes seem to be right in the face of the player.
Also, why do some people here claim the sound is not noticeable? It is pretty obvious. Stand with your character at a quiet spot, turn off the music only so you can hear the ambient sounds better, and then do it with and without the wind devils. Yes, the rustling is interfering heavily.
Well, since I play the game with the music on I guess their sound isn’t obvious to me (I am a bit deaf too so have hearing aids). Probably depends on your PC, your game settings, music on/off, etc, whether you find it annoying or not.
And it may also depend upon whether one is using PC Speakers vs headphones, and even then not all headphones are equal in sound presentation as they all have slight sound frequency profiles plus quality of the headphone speaker.
