Witch Hunter help

I’ve wanted to make a Poison/Acid toon for a while and decided to make a Witch Hunter (when I get more legendaries anyway).

Here is the general idea of the 1H/off-hand melee caster I want to make:

Bear in mind, that the skill distribution has NOT been made with gear in mind, as I only have 4 pieces so far; Runed Blade and Vestments of Dreeg, Pestilence of Dreeg and Wretched Tome of Nar’Adin.

So what gear should I be needing? My Warder is only using 3 legendaries and rest epics (all non-empowered) and has 0 issues in Ultimate even facetanking Nemeses, yet I won’t be able get away with just epics and empowered epics on a toon like this and expect to survive.

Am I missing a skill or have too many points in a certain tree and not enough in others? Any input would be appreciated.

EmpoweredDEE + Nightchill + Vulnerability + SS can kill everything with faction gear and slith dagger while you run around healing yourself

1)Substract 10 points from the Nightblade mastery - nightfall will do nothing for you and requires strong investment to be a powerful AoE/CC. Furthermore you have no means to spam SS. Even if you could your damage output will be weak compared to a dual wield/2h poison WH.

  1. Substract points from Merciless repertoire and put them into Blood of Dreeg to get more OA, %hp heal and regeneration. Follow “The Rule of Crits”: as +% to critical damage increases it will give you better returns than additive means (i.e. +% to x damage type).

  2. Invest in Veil. DA <2000 in ultimate means death. Veil will not increase your DA, but it will decrease the OA of the mobs, thus resulting in a lower chance for them to crit.

  3. Do not use the Runed Blade of Dreeg dagger - it will actually hurt your damage output. It has full chaos damage that you can not debuff reliably. This means that all your skills with a weapon damage component in them will suck vs ch’thonics (e.g. Dreeg’s Infinite Gaze, DEE, etc.). Use a slithtongue instead.

  4. You should not get more than 3 pieces of the Dreeg set. You need only the +50% poison and duration bonus and the +100 OA. The forth piece gives you castspeed which is useless if you do not spam DEE. HINT: The set is for warlocks, not WHs.

In the end, as I have finished the game with 8 WH by now (5 of them in HC) I have to tell you that a caster WH will ultimately be weaker than a melee one. Decision to pursue one is yours, ofc, but I felt like I had to tell you…
