Witchblade Build, viable?

Hey everyone,

im trying to build a Witchblade here.

Could you guys tell me, if this would be viable?

The plan is to do a 2hand melee Witchblade with a focus on chaos & vit damage. I would use Cadence as a main attack and Doombolt as a support single target spell.

Defense-wise, i would rely on Menhir’s, Blood of Dreeg and Tortoise.

Link to the build is here:
Build at 85

In the devotion setup, there is still a lot of room for improvement, i just wanted to show the general direction i am aiming for.

Item wise, i would try to get items that convert phys. dmg into chaos or vit dmg, such as the Obsidian Juggernaut.

Any first thoughts if this would be viable?

Hey, i’m working on a Witchblade myself, currently s/b but i am considering
changing to 2h for increased ST-damage.
This build i’m linking can easily be turned into a 2hander just by removing the points
from Overguard and Shieldtraining, giving those points into Doombolt and the
rest into the Soldertree for an additional 500health, which turns into more after the +% HP.

My Witchblade is currently 47 at the start of act IV and when i hit 50 i plan to
switch to 2hander with Scythe of Tenebris.

/Edit. i think this one one of the more interesting builds and it needs more attention since it isn’t that effective again C’thonians (seems to be half dmg),
but does good damage against others.

Currently I am playing a level 71 Witchblade in hardcore using a two-handed weapon build. I started the build after I found an Obsidian Juggernaut. The focus is pure physical and chaos damage and so far it has worked out well. For other gear I have found the 4 pieces from the black legion do nicely to buffer phys resistance and a few caster rings / amulets help with the mana regen.

(first post)

For devotions i picked up:

Eye of the Guardian
Solael’s Witchblade
Behemoth (4 pts)
Kraken
Rhowan’s Scepter
Empty Throne
Viper
Hawk
Crane

My original plan was to try getting both Kraken and Oleron with three or four points in behemoth but I don’t think that is possible with 50 devotion points.

At 71 my health sits around 12k and my dps with cadence is about 16k. It seems to work pretty well so far but can burn through mana very fast if you don’t watch out.

Leveling I used blade arc as a spamable attack to clear quickly and proc Guardian’s Gaze as often as possible.

I hope this helps.

I have a Witchblade sitting there at 34 and have been debating on what to do. I am debating on trying out this build with a Leviathan or a Stonefist Rebuke. Going for a physical Blade Arc.

Here is a Devotion setup with Oleron and Kraken but it requires full Behemoth.

Nice concepts!

I appreciate the input, but can anyone actually tell me, if the way I am planning to go can be viable?

This is what my Obsidian Juggernaut Witchblade looks like (currently level 83). Keep in mind that points can get shifted around as I equip +skill items. Have you considered going with Abomination instead of Oleron? That’s what I did.

I have a witchblade lvl 56 and i am quite satisfied with it

Mine works as a dual mix between acid/chaos. Sword + Shield.

You do not need to worry much about AOE attacks with this build, because shrine skills cover that area. Scorpion sting and the eye constelation works wonders for AOE, plus you also got abomination.

Soldier skills and blood of dreeg for further survivability, eye of dreeg component if you want a fine hard hitting AOE spell.

Ofc, this works more for acid than chaos/vit damage… you might want to consider Dying god instead.

What about using Agony for a physical/poison build?

MrBrightside> maybe I’m too late, but based on the GrimCalc you posted, one interesting way could be this one : grimcalc[dot]com/build/tjNeik (sorry, first post).
You could use flame torrent on cadence, wendigo’s mark on sigil of consumption, hungering void on doom bolt (1 hit every 8 seconds is not that great, so don’t invest too much points in it) ; and you should mainly invest on regenerating life, so I think using giant’s blood, and maybe replace turtle shell by ghoulish hunger, is better for surviving.
About “time stop”, I’m not really sure it could be a good thing to use, but complete constellation is interesting.

Also try using riftstone materia, the chaos charge is really great.

Hi, I was wondering how you invest you attribute points for this witchblade. Thanks.

Apparently Most already tried a physical Witchblade and it sucked because it lacked appropriate itemization for physical or physical/chaos builds. This was with doing continuous 30k+ crits with CoF phys res and other res reductions.

I really don’t get why almost all of you guys are pretty much convinced that a physical-based witchblade must “suck”.
I say this because my personal experience tell me otherwise.
The “offense” is ofc below the mainstream builds (but i still think that 30-40 sec for a Fabius/Shar’Zul kill is pretty much acceptable) while the “defense” is simply gamebreaking (with my two WBs i don’t have to drink a single health potion).

Ive tried a phys wb the dps is fine, great even, i think sharzul was sub 20sec maybe, good tankiness but lacked a strong source of healing, so things like sharzul cant really burst u but can out dmg ur heals overtime. As result i ended up switching to warder. And using warcry as -phys resist over cof

Its certainly viable with very good dmg just healing is lacking unless u go defensive devos which will gimp ur dps

This is really about whether you are one of the people who feel the need to kill everything in 3 seconds. If so, you have better choices than Witchblade.

Otherwise, 2H physical and 2H chaos witchblade both work fine and are fun to play. Physical is faster but chaos is probaby more enjoyable.

Witchblade is also (by far) the best of the shield builds right now.

yeah i don’t think it ‘sucks’ per se, i was able to clear everything except mad queen without too much trouble. mad queen is probably doable too, i just play hardcore and didn’t really care to try on that character.

it just feels horribly slow and clunky, blade arc has an atrocious hitbox and 2h weapons have painfully low attack speed.

maybe 1h blade arc is solid though, im not sure

i was using a pure physical 2H levianthan + cadence with blind fury for aoe
dps was great actually.

setup almost same as my warder setup.

issue was healing though.

i think cadence is better than BA

1h/shield + Cadence (heresy…HERESY!!!) is what i like the most. Blade Arc is better only for dps, while Cadence offer a smoother gameplay.

yeah looking at your devotion setup on your warder, it was definitely better than what i was using, i’m a little bit rusty these days lol.

i’ll try again with cadence, or i might finally try a 1h + shield version, i didn’t realize how ridiculous menhir’s bulwark scales at ultimate levels

ya i think 1h might be better. with markovians set giving a bunch of flat dmg and easily scaling menhirs to 22/12.

deadly momentum gives alot of flat physical too

it would mostly fix the healing problem with overguard+menhir

mitigation isn’t necesarly better tho, the 2h version has more phys resist

yeah the 2h blade arc guy i was using had an absurd amount of phys resist

upgrading from a high-rolled stonefist rebuke also felt like a bit of a mistake, i gained like 1k dps at the expense of 6% phys resist
