Witchhunter 2WF Acid Help

Hey All!

New to the game (once through ultimate with 2HF Lightning Build). Thought I would take a crack at making a build. New to forums also so please go easy on acronyms and Grim Dawn Speak. I put the build idea in Grimcalc (I think I did it right) and would love some basic comments.

I Started with 2WF, Acid, and Regeneration --> ended up with:

grimcalc.com/build/1009-OFysvi
UPDATE #1: https://grimcalc.com/build/1009-Dl5Ney
UPDATE #2: https://grimcalc.com/build/1009-4DrMPE

I am also a bit lost on the binding of devotions:

Scorpion Sting --> CoF?
Tainted Eruption --> LMB?
Ghoulish Hunger?
Guardian Gaze?
Raise Dead? Do I even Trigger this?
Abominable Might?
Dreegs Infinite Gaze?

Thanks in advance and let’s start with Minor changes (if possible/viable).

Why dual wield when you are casting? You could easily use a gun and focus since most of your time will be spent either slinging dreeg’s evil eye or re-upping your lethal assault buff with a single attack. You will be fighting at a range theoretically if you’re going with DEE, so you need more points in curse of frailty so it will hit more targets and slow them down. More points in night’s veil might be helpful too since it will only hit 3.8 meter distant targets at 3/10. Why did you pick phantasmal armor at 12/12? If you do decide to stick with dual wield, you should pick up a point of shadow strike for mobility.

Just my two cents, hope they’re helpful.

Thanks,

Yes, that helps a lot … lot to digest for new players.

So … Dreeg’s is Cast (Green Boxes are Magic)? That doesn’t work at all. I assume then that (Sword Icons) are melee? I don’t see an obvious option for the duel wield melee attack skill for acid? Nightblade Duel Blades (Shears/Cut with Nidalla’s)?

Shadow Strike (1 Point) looks obvious now … that helps!

So, keeping at it … here is next version.
Drop Dreeg add Execution (and other changes).
Sticking with Melee 2WF Acid … anything that doesn’t align with that?

Looks much better! There are still some questionable choices such as 12/12 phantasmal armor but this is definitely on the right track. You should consider what your end game gear goals are and plan for the skill bonuses they provide. Consider using grimtools instead of grimcalc so that you can do that all in one place.

Edit: Here’s a quick mock-up I threw together. Far from optimal but it should show you how the tool works. http://www.grimtools.com/calc/w26qmpNO

Thanks - I did a quick level to 30 to see how some of this stuff works.

I did hit an issue I don’t quite understand.

I opened the Scorpion Devotion and it has an attack 25% affect. The best I could do was bind it to Bell Shears but that’s only an 8% chance * 25% = 2% chance to trigger which is basically none. How can I tell if any of my attack skill devotions (or at least the BIG ones) have a LMB binding?

So looking at the tool, looks like the same issue that attacks are bound to chances? No LMB Binding?
— I changed the binding to Poison Bomb, it appears to have a chance to trigger on each tick (second) of poison - that’s way better!
I also notice, you squeezed in the extra acid/poison constellations and swapped out the regeneration ones, does regen suck?
Also, also, did you not take Nidalla’s Justifiable Ends because you bound Scorpion Sting to Shadow Strike, do the poisons not stack?

And Hey! Really Really appreciate the help!!!

Update #3: http://grimcalc.com/build/1009-RNGP4E

First let’s talk about weapon pool skills (WPS for short) such as execution, markovian’s advantage, feral hunger, etc. WPS have a %chance of happening, usually between 10 and 25% but sometimes lower or higher, that determines how often they will occur during your attack sequence. WPS can ONLY be triggered by basic attacks or basic attack replacers (fire strike, savagery, beronath’s fury, cadence hits 1+2, troll rage). When a WPS triggers, it either replaces the basic attack or occurs in tandem with the bonuses of the basic attack replacer. This means that a saboteur can use fire strike with the DW WPS skills to devastating effect, for example.

Devotion bindings have a %chance to occur when their trigger conditions are met. For scorpion sting, the base value is the 25% chance on attack. This could be a spell, a proc, or a basic attack, anything really that attacks the enemy.

However, this % chance is then modified by the cooldown of the skill (longer cooldown, higher chance of proc) in question. Belgothian’s shears has no cooldown, so you would get the base 25% chance of it happening. This means that at 1/8 BS, with an 8% chance of the proc firing, you effectively have a 2% chance of scorpion sting with each attack.

This is because 8% of your Basic attacks will be belgothian’s shears and 25% of your shears attacks will also trigger the devotion proc.

In answer to the other questions, no, regen is great. I just like high damage builds. And no, the poisons do stack, but I was low on skill points and thought it was low priority given the low point investment in shadow strike.

Once again, thanks for all the help! Played through Act II with new variant.

Figure the current plan is to leave the top line (shears/cut/death) at 1 pt (8%) to attach WPSs. Then find items/etc to +1 to Nightblade (or skills) since it goes 8% --> 12% --> 15%.

I think I will tryout the regen devotions to see how that goes but looking at possibly buyback Scholar and Star for another 4 pt (Maybe Throne)?

Trying to read through builds - It looks like targeting at least +1000% for Acid/Poison is the minimum to be viable DPS - that about right?

Also, right now putting all points Physique and save a few at end for any key legendaries I might need to put on - that the right mix?

Update #4: https://grimcalc.com/build/1009-XZjFPC

Still have 15 some points to spend:

  • Thinking Nightblade: Shear +4, Cut +4, Whirl +4 (for WPS trigger %)
  • Not sure about other 3 …

Updated the Devotions for 6 Acids, 2 Health, and “stuff”:
Could change “stuff” devotions (8 points):
-Affliction #4/#5, -Viper, -B/P Stars = -20 Resists, -50% Acid
+Lizard, +Jackal, +B Star, +Revenant 1 = +15 Dmg, +30 Con, +16 H/s, + 15% H-Gen

Figured I would do quick update.

  1. The DPS looks good, much more than the one other stock build I took through.
  2. The squishy is very squishy! Gear is weak so hopefully will help.
  3. Lot’s of clickies, starting to cut out weak ones, figure they hurt DPS.
