I started my first aom playthrough as an apostate, which was actually the first time i used wps heavily on a char.
But i feel like that using wps in conjunction punishes you with less frequent devotion procs.
Usually with skills that have a cool down, the chance for devotion procs goes up the longer the cool down is. So elemental storm bound to ravenous earth has a 48% chance to go off instead of the 25% base chance. Which is fine.
But if you bind elemental storm to any wps, the proc chance remains at the base value. Which isnt fine, as it lowers the chance of decotion procs to happen significantly. If we assume the wps chance is 20%, the devotion proc chance goes down to 5% (0,25x0,2).
When bound to wps, devotion procs shouldtake wpsproc chances into account. Wps % / dev % which would be 0,2 / 0,25 or 80% devotion proc chance.
At the moment binding devotions to wps is far inferior to putting a single skillpoint in any area of effect skill, and using that to proc devotions. Because as mentioned above, ravenous earth gives you a 48% chance for es, while binding it to any wps gives you 5% at best.
I agree with you for the most part, I kind of wish Crate made it so that Devotion proc chance looked at the likelihood of the skill triggering and adjusted like it does with cooldowns. I will say that in lieu of attaching devotions to WPS, do you have any item-granted abilities with a cooldown that might be useful for devotion proccing? Beats 1-pointing stuff you’d never bother using otherwise (though for a while that was a good enough excuse to 1 point Doom Bolt).
Oh, agreed, but I get the feeling the problem might not be solvable (in before Zantai or someone else comes in and confirms my suspicions with an “Engine limitations” post). Component skills are really handy though, especially in early to mid game.
Binding devotions to WPS isn’t necessarily a bad thing. While the % chance doesn’t scale up, most of them have a set AoE that makes them easier to proc on crowds or hit numerous times.
I have Storm Soread bound to Acid Spray on one of my characters because even though it only goes off around 20% of my attacks, the number of projectiles it fires virtually guarantee that Acid Spray procs. Acid Sprays RR lasts 5 seconds and I have an attack speed of around 2.5 attacks per second so it works out relatively well.
I’m just making a statement. I wouldn’t mind WPSes having their proc chance raised but some of them aren’t completely useless for devotion binds.
Still, i had es bound to storm spread, and i felt like it never triggered
Beats me, I see Acid Sprays relatively often with Storm Spread :undecided: Especially if you get close up and are able to shotgun with every projectile.
Even still though, i’de attach Elemental Storm to my main attack as it’s something I want to proc as much and as consistently as possible.
