WPS Spellbreaker help

Currently working on a WPS bladedancer, thinking of going cold, pierce, physical damage types mainly. Currently at this point (please note, this is just the uid of the grimcalc build as I cannot post links yet I don’t think): Oz4uebM where it’s easy peasy shadowstrike in OFF the pack, then shadowstrike/WPS down champions. What I could use some help with is where to take it next. I don’t foresee vet or elite being too much of an issue, the plan is to take it to something like this: PYNix9l by level 70, but I’m firstly not too sure how ultimate viable it will be, and secondly, How I should try and plan out my devotions. I have put devotions into the grimcalc build, but I’m not sure whether what I’ve entered will synergise well, or whether it’s worth trying to go more quickly for the tier 2/3 procs, and how to do that.

Would appreciate any help, and thanks for being such a great community, have read a lot of people’s builds and they put in a lot of effort.

Since I’ve had no reply, and have now taken the build through most of elite (up to Darkvale Gate) with no issues (it has been slaying in fact), I thought I would update this post with the build plan as it currently stands: http://grimcalc.com/build/QAOvCW5. Currently at level 50 it looks like this: http://grimcalc.com/build/BaeSAot I suspect I will be woefully under-resisted in ultimate, so I could really use some pointers as to how to plan my devotions out more carefully to try and fit more defense in, as I realise I may not be able to use all of the procs depending on end game gear.

At the moment I have falcon bound to shears, bat to quick cut, scorpion to whirling death, tsunami on execute, amatok on mutilate (from blademaster’s talisman), ghoul on pneumatic burst and giant on maiven’s. I’m basically relying on life leech and adcth.

I’ve just been able to equip the butcher of burrwitch and crimson spike which was a huge boost in power, rest of gear is golemborns, slithscale legs, brawler gloves, Perdition head, obsidian chest, decorated shoulders, vortex stone, a rare elemental resist ring, starfire, chthonian thread belt, and a rare element resist medal. All the mats shore up various resists. I haven’t ground out any factions to honored other than the rovers so far (to take mogdrogen quest), so I haven’t slotted any augments, and would like to know where to go with those. Oh, and using bloody whetstone main hand, haunted steel offhand (I guess I might need to swap these for salt and silver to shore up chaos and aether resist at some point).

Sorry, realise this is long an a bit rambly, but I haven’t seen any other WPS spellbreaker builds other than the Zues, so just want to keep a record of what I’m doing and hopefully garner any advice along the way.

I’m a bit unsure on skill advice, but I can say that you’re all over the place with devotion setup and in a bad way. You should focus on your type of damage or something universal like health/energy/attack speed/resists. Why take torch when you’re focusing on cold. Why take scorpion? The general advice is that you choose Tier 3 constellation that you want/like and aim for it, grabbing other good constellations along the way.
Also, if you want to get “attack damage converted to health”, but don’t want to use haunted steel (or simply want more lifesteal) you’re better off with Revenant constellation instead of ghoul and bat. Bat is more for vitality build and ghoul’s active activates too late for my tastes. Revenant offers more lifesteal than both ghoul and bat combined AND some health, resist, attack speed on top. Skeletons aren’t worth the trouble though, just take them if you need affinity from constellation.

I’m all for trying out new stuff, but what’s with that Ulzuin’s torch there? You planning on a Warpfire build?

Anyway for good inspiration on your build check out this link

It’s 1.0.0.2 but it’s just as good anyway.

WPS spellbreaker is out of the favour currently with the nerf to Deathmarked set. I would suggest you go for Caster builds where it is less gear dependent and safer to play.

Phantasmal Blades, Trozan, PRM are all viable choices. Heck even Amarasta is workable too.

Like I’ve said, WPS spellbreaker is not really viable any more due to the nerfs to shadowstrike as well as deathmarked set.

Killing Fabius in 13 secods insetead of 9 is just fine I think. Why is it not viable? It’s a nerf, yes, but to say that it’s not viable is very harsh. The nerf to the weapons was due. No CD in the proc was OP for both spellbreakers and Blademasters and made all other builds look silly.

I’m referring to WPS spellbreakers as a whole. Farming for a whole deathmarked set is not that easy to begin with.

Shadowstrike used to be the to-go skill for WPS spellbreakers but not anymore now due to the cooldown nerf. Yes you can still make a WPS spellbreaker but you will need really specialised items.

On shadow strike, i’ve seen a lot of people mention this. I haven’t noticed a a big difference after the change they made…maybe 0.2, maybe, but I didn’t notice something that broke my build. Maybe it’s because I had 14% reduced CD do begin with (spellbreakers have that by default with star pact). I don’t know.

Nah, was just trying to pack as many procs onto the WPS skills as possible. I have no idea what I’m doing! Thanks for the link to that, might have followed that build guide much more closely if it had been in the build compendium. The devotions make a lot more sense. I find it pretty hard planning them in grimcalc as it doesn’t highlight what’s available when you’ve opened specific nodes, but I guess I should do what the other poster suggested and work backwards from the tier 3s.

Yes, after playing with grim calc devotions for many many hours I can say the working backwards is the best way. Just get your T3 out of the way from the start then your compulsory T2 (like if you are 2handed you will have Kraken no matter what) and then you debuff and survival devotions (regen or lifesteal or both) according to your build and see if you can meet the requirements.
