So I finally finished leveling the last of the 36 masteries, a Deceiver, and I decided to go with a FoI build using the Voidsoul set that I had lying around. Now I also chose to use Doom Bolt as a filler skill, since it gets some modifiers too, like the full Vit to Chaos conversion and some aoe.
Then I went ahead and got this Bloodsworn Sigil, because it seemed like the best option for what I’m trying to do. As you can see, it also converts Vitality on Doom Bolt, though this time to Fire.
Now, the game does say that Doom Bolt is fully Chaos (save for that small flat fire dmg) converted, but for whatever reason the visual changed to Fire. So just wondering if that’s supposed to be normal behavior?
It’s not really a big deal, since the damage is correct, but it just looks a bit stupid.
yes, skill modifiers do change colors sometimes if they convert to different damage type. Chaos mods to doom bolt don’t change the look because well it’s Chaos looking by default. It’s a feature.
If you have low % Fire damage in comparison to % Chaos, not going for a hybrid build or sth like that, then this conversion is hurting you because you convert a big chunk of DB’s Vit damage to Fire which you could have converted to Chaos instead.
With Voidsoul Vit damage is more valuable than Fire as well probably even if you don’t convert it to anything.
bind DB to lmb or rmb, open char page 2, look up top, mouse over Doom Bolt there,it displays dmg breakdown
now equip/unequip the medal, you should see a visible dmg loss in terms of total chaos amount compared to a regular % chaos medal (black star etc)
Yeah, I did that. It does still increase my damage pretty massively, even fi the conversion gets a bit messed up there. I can’t think any other medal to replace it either, since FoI is the main thing in the build.
See, that’s what’s confusing me. Because both Voidsoul and the medal have the exact same wording: convert Vitality to X, so I don’t get why the medal took priority. I thought conversion order was Skill Modifier - Gear Modifier - Global, or something like that. Aren’t these both gear modifiers?
Either way, it’s probably fine. I’m running Doom Bolt as a one pointer anyway and FoI is the actual star of the build. The medal unfortunately is the only one I can think of.
Hell, I might even just ditch Doom Bolt tbh. It’s just an extra button in a channeling build now I think about it.
it makes no sense it increases your dmg, you’re losing 50% base vit or 900 base dmg at r22, which is quite a lot - even with 50%+ of the base fire converted back into chaos it’s a 650 net loss:thinking:
hence why a regular/other similar chaos medals without modifier should display higher gains/be a net boon
it takes priority in FX only, because of equipment order, that’s just how fx swaps work
there is no fx swap on vit-> chaos conversion (base colour is red/already chaos), since medal is new colour, it has colour transmuter overrides
Well I didn’t have that many chaos medals to test, but the few I swapped lowered the damage. Either way, as I said it’s more about the FoI modifier. The Doom Bolt’s unfitting colour bothered me more than potential damage loss tbh lol.
i only just saw you said you only 1pt doom bolt, which could explain it, as vit dmg ranks might not reach significant levels for you yet/we consider filler skills different investments
(i’d max db to 22 on voidsoul where you didn’t it seems )
then it can make sense you see less dmg difference with/without
at softcap you have 900 vit dmg, so 450 being lost, but gaining up to 250/over half back, and it’s basically only less than 3rd of the loss as hardcapped
Tried to find another suitable Medal, but I have failed, fair to be said. You have to “live” with the Bloodsworn one… Every other medal seems “generic” or inappropriate.
can be useful for builds with weapon dmg, because of the proc buff, that has no better modifier/stats available
Alternatively Rylok medal can be fine for just stat dump affix flexibility
You can always learn some simple modding. After that it takes like a minute to change this and can also be applied to normal, non-custom game. I used to do that a lot with skills, change their color, tweak the look.
