Most of those things are highly subjective. I’d rather they stay grey areas and not the game telling me “you did something wrong”.
This
Let’s see
don’t tell Ulgrim about Devil’s crossing (1)
I can’t tell if he’s an asshole or an ascendant at first sight so not telling him about it is your being cautious not evil
shake down Luther Graves
Pure Evil
accept Direni’s excuses/bribe (2)
Half-evil imo as you’re technically siding with the lesser evil to get rid of a greater evil (Salazar)
kill Harvey
Not really evil as he was too far removed from reality and therefore killing him can be seen as an act of kindness
watch the Skinners burn
Stupidity
kill Isaiah Redden (3)
Stupidity
lie about the Bone Talisman
Evil choice, no objections
get the residents of New Harbor killed
Stupidity gets them killed, not being evil
kill Cronley’s defectors (2)
Not evil, they could’ve been imprisoned for not wanting green crystals shoved in their ass but they’re bandits at the end of the day
kill Julius Cole and Helen Fletcher
They stole from you, you had just dealt with Direni (one way or the other) so who’s to say they won’t be sabotaging stuff or stealing food while in DC
get Mornay killed
Stupid choice
free Kallista
Stupid choice but not evil. Not everyone think so of exhausting all the dialogue options
TOTALLY NOT join Kymon NOTHING TO SEE HERE. MOVE ALONG FOLKS (4)
I hate them for being religious buffoons but they’re not evil. I still don’t agree with siding with them as by helping them one is indirectly helping a primordial
kill Rallia
Not really, she could’ve been an aetherial possessed for all we know. You can’t confirm the truth about her before Act V
kill Anasteria (5)
You don’t realize the truth about her trill you find the note from Lucius, so not an evil choice.
join Barrowholm (6)
Pure evil faction but when you come across the village despite all the obvious hints it is possible that someone might still side with them
It isn’t easy to realize that they’re all a pack of Cannibals and it is even harder to realize they worship the God of Cannibals
So the choice is more attributed to stupidity than anything
leave Nimia and the other Bloodsworn to die (2)
Former Bloodsworn, i spare them to give them a chance at redmeption. But for all I know they could’ve been lying or maybe they weren’t but had done something very horrible during their Bloodsworn days before giving up on it but deserved punishment for it regardless
kill Nicoh Erin (7)
This is pure RNG, he attacks you. Most people didn’t know they could spare him. I was fortunate enough that he agreed to come on the first playthrough which is why I posted it in bug reporting when he got aggressive on all three options
So not evil
steal from Ivonda
She’s a shady character who has lost her memories, for all I know she is Trista suffering from Amnesia
piss off Vivian Neven (8)
Not evil, truth is hard to digest if she can’t do that then it’s not my problem. I don’t take this choice but it’s not evil
kill Hagarond (5)
Not evil, we don’t know for sure if he’s the enemy or not. He could be a weakened aetherial imprisoned for trying to usurp the throne from Marcell and seeing us (a taken) there he was sure that Marcell might die here and didn’t want to be part of the destruction of the Fleshworks. Just because he told the truth about “good aetherial” doesn’t mean he’s one of them. I spare him each time but it’s not evil to kill him
To be honest, we don’t know the truth about Isaiah until Homestead. He tells us a story about his daughter, but there is no daughter to be seen.
It might easily be a lie for all we know.
Well, sure. But I wouldn’t immediately assume someone who lets a chump keep his head is a douchebag. (Metaknowledge tells you it’s actually a good idea to keep him from going to Cronley, but for a character’s first rodeo this doesn’t come into play unless they had it spoiled for them here or elsewhere)
I will agree to disagree on the curse, but yes, the gods are culpable here (which is why I have no qualms about offing the Avatar of Mog if I can, the Rovers are pretty decent folks and his attitude towards them is shamefully detached and nonchalant). In regards to Korvaak, perhaps, but keep in mind he’s not at anywhere near full power yet from what we can gather and his beef seems to be with Ch’thon and the Bloodsworn primarily, who we kind of have to get rid of anyway. When we kill Log technically we’re helping Korvaak. Now, what we SEE in Kymon’s study is a messenger of Korvaak. That thing can almost certainly be made to fuck off and leave Kymon alone. That said, if we have to trade one primordial for another, Ch’thon’s pretty fucking scary as his desired goal is KILL EVERYTHING AND DRAIN THEIR BLOOD. Korvaak’s an unknown evil, which could be worse, but it’s hard to get much worse than Ch’thon’s goal. (Knowing what Korvaak actually is the god of at this point would be metaknowledge, so on a first playthrough and without AoM there’s no way to know more.)
This occurred to me as well. If I had to tell a lie to justify killing a business partner to a heavily armed stranger, “he raped my daughter” would be high on the choices because hell yes I’d shoot the bastard what done it and leave him to die. Extorting Reddan is still an unquestionably evil move because it falls neither under “fuck the rapist” or “fuck the murderer”.
Yeah this is where everyone is wrong. I’m not trying to kill everything I just want my damn blood back. If it kills you then take it up with Empyrion or Korvaak or whoever betrayed me. I didn’t create you, you were created using my blood by some jackass and I had to endure all the suffering every mortal fueled with my blood did and my bad luck is I can’t die.
So yeah, not evil. You guys are just haters
Well i think each decision should have a certain weight to it for getting the achievement.
Like by a % and by doing so and complete the game while having a lets say more than 75% you get the achievement.
Kinda like Metro 2033 for getting the good ending.
You know what the whole Ch’thon thing reminds me of? Ymir. I don’t remember Ymir ever doing anything wrong either and he still got killed and turned into the Earth. It’s actually a lot like Ch’thon - swap primordial for Jotun and it’s really a strikingly similar story.
(That said, Ch’thon as he is now - completely insane and angry at absolutely everything - is a scary being and his pets aren’t exactly warm and cuddly.)
Surprised this is in here. Not many people know about this one, I’ve seen.
Could have an achievement for finding Mornay’s body.
Does he have good loot?
OK, so I’d be an idiot to expect Crate to do this. It was an amusing concept to work out. And I didn’t explain it well. At risk of killing any remaining humor by over-analyzing it…
This started from killing Nicoh Erin - which isn’t evil - and getting annoyed because you can’t avoid it.
- I didn’t mean “here’s an accomplishment for doing one or more of the evil things you can do in the game,” although I listed a few evil choices.
- I meant “here’s an accomplishment for accidentally or deliberately doing all of the things that make your character kind of a douchebag for doing them.” Go ahead, Crate. Rub it in.
My reasoning - such as it is - for each point:
- don’t tell Ulgrim about Devil’s crossing because you aren’t really protecting anybody from anything here, even though you don’t know that when you make this choice. And you left the man alone in the freaking swamp.
- shake down Luther Graves because extortion is a dick move.
- accept Direni’s excuses/bribe because either you’re a patsy or you’re taking bribes, and he’s working for your enemies. Full hero points.
- kill Harvey because you stumble into this and you could have avoided it.
- watch the Skinners burn because you stumble into this and you could have avoided it.
- kill Isaiah Redden because you turn out to have taken the wrong side. Also, now you get to kill his daughter. Go you! Full hero points again.
- lie about the Bone Talisman because lying to a dying man and stealing from him is a dick move.
- get the residents of New Harbor killed because you stumble into this and you could have avoided it.
- kill Cronley’s defectors especially if you told them you wouldn’t, first. Also, remorse and redemption and all like that.
- kill Julius Cole and Helen Fletcher because you can stumble into it or avoid it. Also redemption. Double points.
- get Mornay killed because you stumble into this and you could have avoided it. And there’s not even any nifty shoulders or a belt or something, but that’s meta and beside the point.
- free Kallista because she’s a freaking demon who tricked you into freeing her (him? it? whatever). Classic hero move. Full points again.
- join Kymon because really? You signed up with a God of Light and ended up working for another asshole Elder Thing who wants to eat your species. I felt like a douchebag. Well, also they’re a bunch of fundie Republicans and that alone made me feel like a douchebag. But that’s meta, and your mileage obviously varies. Sorry, Tycho.
- NEW! join Death’s Necromancers because Necromancers. Hey, look! Everybody gets a starter point towards the achievement! Can we all play nice now?
- kill Anasteria because she turns out to be an ally seeking redemption. No you didn’t know that. That’s the freaking point.
- join Barrowholm because Cannibalism. I don’t care how useful the cannibals are. You joined a bunch of cannibals. If you don’t feel like a douchebag I wash my hands of you. Not literally after eating, or anything; it’s a saying. Look it up.
- leave Nimia and the other Bloodsworn to die because redemption.
- kill Nicoh Erin because goddammit.
- steal from Ivonda because you told her you’d help, and lying and theft is a dick move. Doesn’t even gain you anything except a chance to break up a bunch of clocks, satisfying as that may be.
- piss off Vivian Neven because she calls you names and WON"T LET YOU EXPLAIN.
- kill Hagarond because redemption. See all of the other repentant aetherials you don’t have to kill. Well, all both of them. And you don’t have a chance to kill one of them. Doesn’t matter. My point stands.
I don’t understand the ascription of “fundie Republicans” to Kymon’s Chosen. Kind of like calling the Imperium of Man in WH40K Literally Nazis Led By Literally Hitler. But whatever bloats your float, I don’t have a dog in that political fight I hate both sides for different reasons.
To be honest it’s more the killing people rather than eating them that gets me in regards to Barrowholm. One necessarily entails the other most of the time, clearly, but the cannibalism itself doesn’t strike me as MORALLY repugnant, it strikes me as being a terrible idea for lots of reasons (some of which many real life cannibals have discovered the hard way). Wonder how many cases of kuru the Barrowholm bunch has encountered?
Stealing and extortion should always get you a tick towards Douchebag, though, even if there’s something worse you can do. Lying in and of itself is kind of dickish, but context is important. Thankfully, most of the lies you can tell in GD are fairly cut and dry dick moves that are self-serving rather than in the service of others.
I think the “growing fangs and antlers on the way to Wendigo City” part is more of an issue for the Ugdenbog cannibals than the long-term neuropathic degradation part.
Also? Hands. Washed. Just saying.
I hear we taste like pork.
If I didn’t follow through on my promises, how could anyone ever trust me again?
Can’t lose what you never had in the first place, eh?
What is “kill Cronley’s defectors (2)”?
Also to keep some of the crystal or not?
Three of Cronley’s men are imprisoned beside the arena/pit for trying to quit and escape. You can kill them, talk to them and let them go, or get info from them and then change your mind and kill them. The last choice has always felt like kind of a douchbag move.
Also to keep some of the crystal or not?
I’ve never seen any ethical or moral downside to keeping some of the crystal, or any indication of a negative effect. Am I missing something?
What is the name of the quest you have with this objective?
Also to keep some of the crystal or not?
Up to you. It’s not a major decision, you get a couple extra crystals and a guaranteed Aether Cluster if you do.
@Tycho which anime is that from?
K-On. The picture is of Yui.
