Zantarin, the Immortal

What is his ability that one shots a person? Everytime i get him in Crucible, he makes me want to strangle a Unicorn…

18 projectiles shotgun where each deals 7% health reduction. Wait for him to use it and then rush when he’s done.

It also deals acid and vitality and his CoF lowers Vitality resist by 50% and poison/acid resist by 30%.

Yeah gets me every time. I get oneshot through 25K hp and 110% vitality resist. There I am just wiping the floor with everything the crucible can throw at me, including 4 nemesis, or the queen. Then Zantarim appears, I shadow strike him before reading his name, and instantly fall on the floor, no circuit breaker no nothing. Just reset and try again.

I’m not sure if shadow strike is screwing up his casting range or something. But I have tried walking in slowly too. I’m sure there is a mechanic on how to deal with this as a melee, but it is beyond me. I can’t kill him at range, and if i move in I die. I don’t get it. For me this boss is totall BS.

Same with gravathul tbh. Soon as I see him in my screen he casts that orb wich oneshots me. I can’t even get close to him. There is one of those witches who does this too. Only 3 mobs in the game that can oneshot without warning in my own experience. Well there probably is warning I am missing.

The volley attack has a 2 second cast time and is clear as day to see if he’s casting it - long as you are willing to be a little patient. He’ll be surrounded by a reddish glow and look like hes casting something in slow motion, when that finishes out comes the volley. Once he has cast the volley you have a full 13 seconds until the next one - and it’ll never start while you are in melee range. Hell my caster builds tend to bait his volley and run into melee range because its just the easy way to fight him.

As long as you wait to engage in melee until immediately after the volley he’s a push over.

Now that you know this you have only yourself to blame if you ever die to him again fyi. I mean, even more so than now. Seriously him casting the vitality barrage is the most blatantly obvious move out there, how were you missing it?

The way to deal with him as a melee build is to wait for the projectiles barrage and then shadow strike him. You have 13 seconds until he can cast it again.

Well thnx for the advice. I guess I get too caught up in the crucible action to notice.

Any idea why my health drops like 20K at once while i melee him? Is it a volly going off? Maybe shadow strike makes him start the cast in melee range.

Any advice on gravathul and the witch? Does it look the same for them?

Shadow Strike doesn’t make him cast the shotgun, it is just bad timing.
To the insta-death: He shoots 18 projectiles which all hit you, even S&B builds can have trouble surving this, especially when your resitances are reduced. (Yes, Zantarin can do that)

It’s HP% damage, it doesn’t matter if you have 10k, 20k or even 100k, if the entire volley connects at point-blank, you are dead. There are very few sources of life reduction resistance that can protect you against Zantarin (e.g. Menhir, modifier on Fleshwarped shields for Shaman) so, surprisingly, the only characters that can reliably face-tank him are those who have high inherent deflect chance or a proc that gives high deflect chance (Blast Shield).

Zantarin is at least easy to read.

At 2950 DA with shield and inquis seal Benny Dw crit me for 20K in crucible:eek:

it appears he can debuff up to 450 DA for 3 secs.

At least he dont spawn with 2 notched bones

In wave 150 I once got my DA reduced from 2900 to 2100 like what the fuck? Enemies’ DA reduction seems to be absurdly powerful at high level, and they can even stack together.

Atleast he doesn’t nullify all your auras

Hm. its actualy a good idea, lets buff Benny.
