OK ! So a 2h weapon (melee/ranged) is made to compete with 2 1h weapons…should be that way…but it’s not…just cause of the components.
Yes, without components, some 2h are better than 2 1h, but not in most cases, even without or with, 2 1h builds are usually stronger, even if they have lower sheet dps, cause 2 1h weapons give way more bonuses than just 1 2h wep.
The 2h weapons usually have higher stat values and base dmg, but not more as in number of stats on the weapon…which, in my opinion is not fair. But again, not in all cases. Have to add that there are very few 2h weapons in comparison to the number of 1h weps in game.
But the ideea of this thread is to change the components that go in 2h weapons, leaving weapons as they are, cause it would be less work and more easy.
Every component should remain the same, BUT, when u put a component in a 2h weapon it should double it’s stats and the stats of granted skills ofc.
For ex a bm with 2 seal of blades, has 2 auras of +10%life steal +16% armor +30% pierce. A lot of 2h weapons do not have res on them or armor, or life steal.
Or at least make new components that cost double to make them for 2h weapons.
Either way it should be done, the components are very powerfull for end game builds and 2 1h weapons wins the race almost in 90% of cases.
Do you agree that components on 2H weapons should have double stats values ?
Yes, but I’d prefer 2H weapons just having two slots for components. Both are suggested from time to time, so I guess Crate just doesn’t think it’s necessary. One of the obvious reasons against it is that ADCtH applies to each weapon separately, so DW weapons with Seal of Blades in each is less than 2H weapon with double ADCtH of Seal of Blades.
For ex a bm with 2 seal of blades, has 2 auras of +10%life steal +16% armor +30% pierce.
Im with you yeh about the 2 handers and components but I recall that Zantai somewhere explained(not long ago) to being able to add 2 components on these items would ‘break’ lots of things and its very deep in the game code which would require lots of dev time to implement and test.
IF that couldn’t happen(not anytime soon i suppose…) would be a nice idea adding new components with double standards i guess
OR being able to combine somehow 2 components(weapon only ones) into one
I dont know…im just throwing stupid suggestions here that might could work
I’ll make the components give 50% more stats when applied to a 2-handed weapon, and that for offensive and defensive stats both.
Double stats or two component slots would be too much IMO
I think this would be reasonable. Although 2h weapons are currently in a good state, imo. With the support of Hydra devotion, huge damage values, plus, bigger conversion values they are pretty competitive.
Both the tasks require immense work. Zantai himself has expressed that if he could remove some things from GD then he’d remove partial component feature altogether but it’s too much work at this point for little reward
As for adding “Potent components” I can’t recall what his answer was. I think he discussed all this stuff in the development stream where he was talking about tech stuff.
Anyways, if I am not mistaken none of the suggestion here are likely to be implemented due to the problematic effort to reward ratio
Next expansion? I wouldn’t say so, like Zantai said - at this point in the game’s lifespan, it’s a lot of work for minimal gain.
I could see this being done if there is/for a Grim Dawn 2 as 2-handers would be designed with it in mind right from the game’s beginning. Going off-topic slightly but thinking about it, a sequel would be a great opportunity to change a lot of systems or bring in new ones that people have requested over time that would be hard to implement with the current game.
It also has the benefit of getting rid of a lot of that Titan Quest weirdness if they redo a lot of the code as medierra has pondered on before.
concerning partial components, couldn’t you just change the loottables and blueprints to drop / create a full component (and adjust drop rate / crafting requirements accordingly) ?
Don’t see that one as much work, something a mod could do
Reapeating what other people said in the same thread, maybe 2 times on a page, just to say something about me, is a way to show u have nothing to say at all about this specific thread, u just want to what ? not be forgotten in comments ? I get it, i didnt find the thread cause i wouldnt have created another.
And is there anything planned for a GD2 ? Any real news from the devs ?
Keep in mind, if they ever did anything like this, they’d rebalance 2hers around it. Zantai himself has already said that 2hers are already balanced with the knowledge of only using 1 component. One way they do that, as I’ve noticed, is they get more than double the stats on items of the same quality, and augments as well.
Adding to this, unique (Epic/Legendary) 2-handers also currently get more Physical to X conversion than a pair of one-handers do as well. A pair of one-handers with components that add Physical to X conversion respective to the weapon’s damage type is just barely behind a 2-hander with one component that does the same.
I’ve noticed that typically 2hers get 45% average conversion, while 1hers and shields get 15%, which is 30% total. They also added a 2her devotion to help them out as well. The game is very much balanced around the idea of making up for some of their weaknesses.
2H could oneshot every individual mob in the game and they’d still be vastly inferior to basically every other weapon type, except probably pistol/shield.
The point of advocating for 2 components in 2 handers isn’t to achieve a higher value of existing stats, but to enable a higher potential spread of more kinds of stats. 2H does not suffer for damage. The weapon archetype needs more
Speed (movement/cast/attackspeed, and single-target/AoE speeds)
Survivability (in itemization and in skill support)
Debuffs (in itemization and in skill support) (the AoM components did a wonderful job of making 2H ever less desirable)
Not sure why 2h’ers need more movement/mobility than 1hers, but one thing is clear, the dev’s like where the balance is now. They have the power to do what ever they want. Zantai already as mentioned in other, similar threads, that they would have to rebalance 2hers if this change ever took place.
