Real math? Applied math is no fun xD
So the brain is modelling itself, circular reasoning?

Spiral actually, there is always a discrepancy. If not you did something wrong.
And you and your multiverses, is there one where you can do better maths than physics?
I have one mulitverse where the multiverse theory is false xD
Did someone say Finite/Infinite Deterministic Automata, Boolean algebras and Profinite topologies?
That’s why I do the thing I do: I create and optimize build, I test it with macro’s on non-moving target with lots of hps and dps, then I release it for people to play. Then, of course, it depends on human skills - some won’t be able to use its full potential, other will do after certain training, while several will perform even better than me (after all, macro can’t react, and my reaction time is as high as ~300ms). But it does not matter… my job is finished as soon as build is released, the rest isn’t really fun for me.
Yep I know - you are talking about most weapon-based classes, right? Like Death Knight, Blademaster, Ritualist… but still, is there any video showing any of them killing Ravager in 2-3 min? No, absolute world record still kept by a caster (Vindicator), which does certainly require optimization!
This is exactly the reason why I don’t want to spend more than 5 mins to reply to it - just bring up some calculations and forget about it. But then again, somehow people get so upset, so it produces several pages of flame war…
Ughhh… well, then it’s different for me. I wonder why isn’t it different for you as well - isn’t it nice to look at absolutely optimized model (especially once you’ve got some solid proof that it IS optimized)?
I’d really like to see it changed… somehow. It shouldn’t be that hard for developers to add some extra marks on the main screen to show that one is playing an unmodified game (including build version, preferably). Why can’t single-player be about competition as well? I still remember end of 90th, when we didn’t have any Internet except for analog modem (or whatever it’s called) via phone line, so we were playing HoMM2 offline, trying to complete certain standard map during absolutely minimal number of game days, then sending savegames to the owner of “ladder” site showing best results per each map :o
I’m absolutely sure some day someone REALLY interested (or just really tired of standard Agrivix builds w/o 100% convert) takes my build and uses it… maybe even does it faster than both me and REYM. I just wonder if he links this topic or at least credits me for inspiration… most probably no
Witcher,
I can totally see where you come from. However the last few “entertaining posts” were not so innocent in the context of the thread.
For instance, while I consider myself quite competent in mathematics, I am about as good at Grim Dawn theorycrafting as Justin Bieber is at composing good music: I am trying hard to learn, but ultimately I just terribly suck at it and I have no credibility to put forward my thoughts and creations in front of a knowledgeable community. Except to give feedback and learn!
Many veterans here are not just good at maths (except for malawiglenn who is only a physicist), they are good at Grim Dawn. This changes everything. You could argue (and you’d be right) that GD is a software and as a consequence its mechanics can be optimised. But veterans would reply (and they’d be right too) that the build is unplayable in practice in vanilla.
Aside from optimising the numbers of the build, it needs to be confronted to the reality of its piloting, in a variety in circumstances, and to the limit of the human brain.
I guess what I am trying to say, you are all kind of right, you are simply not focused on the same things. You want to optimise a maths system, veterans are interested in the cold, harsh reality of a game in all its complexity.
What is interesting is not just to think of a build, but to be able to demonstrate its actual value.
I am currently working on a conceptual Pyromancer, that I will post when I feel ready. I have good reasons so far to believe my maths are pretty good but the build will suck. Kind of why I am working on the concept only, I don’t want to waste time building it, I don’t want to use GDstash (personal reasons involving chinchillas and supernovae).
The veterans know the game enough at this stage so if they say the build is not playable, then it is not playable. The human brain works wonders, and expertise is often more valuable than a mathematical model that ultimately will fail to capture all the relevant information.
I suggest you focus on understanding the reasons why the build may seem unplayable, and integrate these reasons in the build, or in another one. Play the former version, and play the new version you will obtain. See for yourself and get a feeling of what changed while playing. It will be tremendously useful when you want to tweak your builds in the future. The new version may be better, it may be worse, but you get a chance at understanding why.
That is why theoritical science is nothing without the experimental one, and vice-versa.
haha reminds me of an old Hilbert quote “Physics is too important to be left alone in the hands of physicists” (or something like that)
But I (and many others) do consider theoretical particle physics and string theory to be closer to math than physics
You could just reply “thanks I will think about it”
Because it is a computer game with a very small player base xD And it is also a ROLE playing game. Not many people are interested in 100% optimizations (that would also require optimal rolls on all the items)
You can always cheat in items from external programs in that case.
Perhaps someone does, and it is pretty standard to link to build threads that served as inspiration. Otherwise getting cred on an internet forum about a build in a small PC game is not gonna add much to your epeen, 1mm maximum!
Indeed, I even mixed up (read “string” => words => symbols concatenations and etc) physics string theory with regular languages and deterministic automata from math.
not musical theory? like string instrument theory? xD
To my regret I am not good familiar with string instrument theory. May be one day I will learn more on this one and physics string theory as well.
TBH… I completely fail to realize how can it be applied at my build. Look, it’s absolutely stable and extremely easy to play! What does it actually require is:
And that’s it! Now look at REYM’s build - how can it be more easily playable by “limited human brain” if it makes you deal with INVISIBLE cd of TD (because it requires you to press transmuted CT ASAP after TD cd is off)? Moreover, how can it be CLASSIC?
Awww, I guess I see where is the cultural difference between you guys and me… Here in .ru we aren’t quite used to smile and nod while thinking smth like “what the hell is that?” If I won’t think about it (because I don’t see anything even barely appealing in it), I just say so… I guess I was wrong
So what? Ones like you and me will see the beauty of a perfect build; the rest will just use it.
Read my my topic in the corresponding subforum - maybe you’ll like the way I suggested to get rid of it (or rather, a way to let everyone have this tool, not just users of third party software).
What a perfect build is highly subjective. I would also appreciate if you could stop telling me what to think and see.
If really it is a perfect build, you should have no trouble demonstrating it with a nice video not involving any bot
I would love, personally, to watch a video of you killing the Ravager in no time, with no bots no exploits. And if I get to watch this, I will applaude, sir, because it will definitely deserve it!
To be honest, fighting to “win a debate” is not going to lead anywhere, however showing that video will give you all the glory at once with not a single word
Then I am sure everyone will read your OP and all your answers with a lot more attention…
well one can always post a video and say that it was not done with scrips or bots
There are two videos in my start post, neither involving any bot. You just have no idea what REAL bot is
Exactly. Well, you can tell a real complete bot from human (instant reactions, zero attack skills downtime etc), but there is no way to tell macro using from pressing buttons. After all, if one has not enough fingers, but still wants to record a perfect video, he can ask a friend to care about attack sequence while he cares about defense (and then pretend that he does it solo).
Ever think to try your luck in politics?
Yeah, it was fun and not that hard to progress… though, it was opposition to the current government, which does not have any chance at this moment (so most my “comrades-in-arms” have left the country already, and I’m considering it as well).
Oh, and I hope we won’t turn it into one more dogfight, offtopic one this time
