I see, I’d been struggling to find fire versions of either - only fire rifle I could find through a google search was ugdenbog, which I assume is dropped during DLC content that I’m not yet up to, and Devil’s musket from the DC shop. Been getting by with the crafted pistols, and previously Marauder’s. still though, if a pistol such as hand mortar is ‘bad while leveling’, then why are rifles at a similar level, which similar affixes showing up as 30-50% less dps? like honestly I’d prefer to be able to switch to 2h if I find a good weapon, but if doing a weapon damage/procs build, I cant see how they could be viable. I get that some skills scale off of only main weaopon and dont take offhand into account, and I’m sure that rifle would be better there, but I havent been using any of those.
The crafted fire pistols are rare (in that there are only 3, at levels 15, 37 and 62) or bad (all the other reliable ones are bad) which means you’re relying on a random drop (which may not happen) or you’re going to be using that level 62 pistol all the way to level 100 and then farming the fancy legendary ones with it.
Rifles however have several different MI options (Ugdenbog Flamethrower, Messenger’s Blaze Cannon, Fleshwarped Incinerator) which are mob drops, which means they all exist at about every 10 levels.
What this means is that you’re going to be level 98 with a pair of level 62 pee-shooters doing 40-66 base damage while the rifle build will be using a level 94 any of the above rifles and doing 200-280(ish) base damage.
There’s a reason why this build guide recommends stacking those fireball procs so dang hard. The pistols suck and are just there to trigger the things that actually do damage. They are really good around the levels when you’ve just got a new one, but a level 62 gun at level 100 is something you want to replace. The good news is that the procs are good enough to carry you until you get the good guns at 100. Then you’ll really start deleting things.
Hey, loving the build so far. Any comments on faction choice? i.e. Kymons Chosen/Death Vigil… Homestead, Witch etc.
Thank you
P.s. ChatGPT gave me this?
- Homestead: Faction gear like their rifle and fire augments could be useful. However, Homestead’s strength lies in the resistances their augments provide, which are vital for higher difficulties.
- Kymon’s Chosen: This is an essential faction for a Fire Gunslinger Purifier. Kymon’s Chosen has strong Fire/Elemental damage gear, augments, and accessories that synergize with your build’s focus on fire damage. Choosing Kymon’s Chosen over Death’s Vigil is a no-brainer for fire-based builds.
- Barrowholm (Ashes of Malmouth expansion): Their augments are great for overall survivability, particularly for their life steal augments, which can help sustain your health when dual-wielding.
- Cult of Bysmiel (Forgotten Gods expansion): This faction has useful accessories and augments that can help with elemental damage and energy regeneration, which is always helpful for a fire-based build.
- For a Fire Gunslinger Purifier, it’s highly recommended to spare Anasteria to benefit from the Outcast faction’s augments and gear, which will synergize well with your elemental damage focus.
None of the choices really matter. I didn’t use any of Kymon’s stuff, so even though they do have fire/lightning gear… I didn’t use it. All their augments are eclipsed by the witch cult ones anyway, so it literally only matters if you want to use their faction gear for some reason.
Perfect, thank you Paikis :)… and again, great guide, really easy to follow, and having a blast with it!
Hello, first of al, thanks for the very nice guide, i’m following it almos to the letter since i’m still learning as i go, currently lvl 50 just reached Necropolis.
Regarding the sentence i highlighted here, do you mean 11 points as in globally added there with gear bonus included, or base 11 points invested on Vindictive Flame.
Thanks and cheers,
Glad you’re enjoying your play through!
As for Vindictive Flame, you want 11/16 after any +skills from your gear, so if you have +3 from your gear, then you spend 8 and end with 11/16.
Good luck!
Aloha! Do you know if they removed the Hand Mortar? How important to the build is it? I can’t seem to get him to give me the BP to save my life!!!
It was still there last time I checked. You can also just grind a bunch of totems and treasure troves if you want a break. It can drop from them.
EDIT: Confirmed he can still sell it. Took about 15 minutes of resetting to get it though.
Ok, thanks! I’m level 41 and my cousin and I tried for over an hour yesterday, each on our own instance and couldn’t get it to come up at all. Kept getting same Adept two things, Tremor, no BP, and one or two others. Will keep trying though… the grind is real!
FWIW I tried for a good 30-45 mins and didn’t get it either. You will probably have better luck in those 30-45 mins getting it to drop from the totems in the late act 3-act 4 areas (Darkvale Gate, Asterkarn, Necropolis) I think last time I saw it drop when I wasn’t looking for it on another character was in the Black Sepulcher
I’ve been following this guide closely and I have to say, it’s incredible. You’ve increased my enjoyment of the game ten fold.
I’m having a bit of trouble, however. I seem to be short 2 devotion points of being able to max out Ulzuin’s Torch. I have 8 points available, but I’m 2 points short in Eldritch to actually spec into the torch. I’m sure it’s just user error but do you have any advice? I have 55/55 unlocked but it seems I’d need 57 to complete the devotion build.
TIA, Ben.
Make sure you’ve actually completed the following devotions:
- Magi
- Behemoth
- Hydra
They have some nodes that can be hard to see. Also, there’s a step-by-step method for getting to the final map in the guide above, I just tested it and it still works, so you’re missing something somewhere. It’s probably one of those weird, hard to see legs on Hydra, or Behemoth or Magi’s head or something.
I was missing the head of Magi, I knew I was doing something wrong. Thanks again for your help and the guide! Very much appreciated.
Amazingly, I finally got it from him after about an hour of trying. Uffduh was it grindy! Thanks all!
Just wondering, why Revenant? Doesn’t seem like it does a whole lot for this build?
Revenant has life steal and the little skeletons it summons will shred enemy resistances. It’s kind of a 2-for-1 devotion.
Hi Paikis, can the build be tailored to be able to kill calla?
I wouldn’t recommend trying to kill Callagadra with this levelling build. There are a lot of legendary builds that you can kill Callagadra with though.
The Dagallon’s build I have linked at the end can do it, but it isn’t really a face tank method. You have to kite and jump between Inquisitor’s Seals. It wont be as east as other builds, but you can do it.
I’m a little confused on the order of devotions. When the list says + Rhowans Crown, does it mean max elemental strike? Or should I only put 1 point in each start and move on?
