[1.2.1.5] - Frenetic Venom(L)ancer Witch Hunter (no green) - SR30, AoM, Minds

What I have got for you today is a continuation of my “let’s use build defining items which does not have or have 5+ years old toons on GT and try to make them work” projects like my Nightbringer and Chaos CT conduit builds were. This time the star of the show is Venomlance as I haven’t found a single build with it on GT (now checked the Onion as well  )

GRIMTOOLS craft helm with stun res

It was quite a relief to step back a little from the, imo very over represented, AA+WPS powerhouse style and play around with this close-to-medium range caster which suits it quite well as it is still a glasscannon, altough I tried to make it reasonably durable. From the title you might guessed that our main skill is Phantasmal Blades with Frenetic Throw.

side note: In the back of my mind I suspected but still felt robbed when realized that Frenetic Throw overwrites the animation color change of Venomlance. This build would look approx 420% better if the blades were green. But that’s the life of the G (G stands for Gamer) I guess.

About gear what I need to mention is Badge of Mastery. Tbh, I don’t have this +3 PB +2 ABB variant as it is, well… unrealistic, just a +3 PB but if you have the perfect one you can max out ABB as well if you wish.

Let’s see the results.

SR30 - I have pushed it to 36, my last deathless run was at 34.

Celestials:
realized that both kills were recorded without giants blood assigned to a skill…
Avatar of Mogdrogen 2:28 - I think this was a decent fight. Below 50% health of Mog I decided not to facetank because it was way safer being mid range.

Ravager of Minds 2:23 - I had to choose Minds as this toon is very energy hungry and cannot handle Flesh’s energy leech.

Calla is only realistic with full kiting as this one has 0 armor and quite low phys res.

One more thing what driven me crazy with this one. Giant’s Blood and Abominable Might has the same icon with the same color in the HUD. These two devo skills even share the same duration so I cannot distinguish them. With this build it is very important to see whether Giants is up or on cooldown.

Dear Devs could you please amend this in the future? I don’t ask for a different icon, just please change the icon color for one of them.

As always, constructive criticism is welcome.

Happy Gaming!

hoped this was gonna shine someday, i just like that gun. before the change to frenetic throw my money was on dervish being better but now it seems witch hunter is?

I was also thinking of making Acid PB with this gun. Kind of wished it had at least 10% cast speed, no cast speed on the weapon in spam pb build sucks.

guessing: more flat dmg in WH, benefit of oathkeeper is really just cdr for devos, extra dot stacking pets, and passives/less buttons incl RR
Similar reason i went WH instead of dervish on spam ABB, seemed like OK really would only shine if caring about devos/dot stacking and cdr. Occ was more raw dmg +absorb and phys res even if more piano

I would add a few things to Gnomish’s list of benefits using Occultist for this toon:

  • Bloody pox brings -10%RR with Cowl of The Venomblade, also little confuse helps

That “Total damage modified by -60%” is a lot. So I leaned to crit damage.

  • Vulnerability’s -225 DA is substantial.
  • 22% crit damage from second rite

i’d personally never include Pox there
just too much of a hassle for me with too little gain with that piano+ clunk(duration/target etc)

With this -60% total damage and -55% weapon damage applied I think, please correct me if I am wrong, that stacking flat damage scales quite badly. I mean you need a hefty investment in points to get noticable damage boost. Same applies for %damage as this has around 2500% acid (still quite low) and to increase this by 10% we would need another 250% which is also quite expensive and we have other areas to cover with points. I found that -rr is the best/cheapest way to increase damage. Against trash it does not matter, you are right, it is maybe just a cumbersome key on this piano, but against serious enemies I feel this 10% noticable. Crit damage hoarding is for the same reason as that “happens after base damage”.

not arguing technical dmg gains there, but simply comfort of play
Sometimes adding small RR might not feel worth, even if on a theorycraft/technical optimization be worth it doing “1”% more dmg, practical play might simply vary more (and ofc subjectively so)
Similarly i don’t use word of solael?(chaos RR) comp on many chaos builds, and i never use RR mods to pox because it’s an arguably worse debuff to cast unless strictly necessary, (imo).

I think there was an item that added like 10 vit and or lightning RR to WoP or storm box?, that i also excluded, because i’m not gonna do mageslayer foi or vit foi whatever and start weaving in a bunch of other debuffs for just -10% RR  - also even if something like Box is a great devo proccer, it would first be a consideration if the char needs an actual proccer

Nice job! Surprised to see a char from this class facetanking so much :muscle:

Tbh I don’t even know how to apply to playtests. Maybe at some point I will transform this little hobby of mine to a part time work. Joke aside how one applies to playtesting? Does it involve prerequisites like being a Preatorian or is there a thread I never found where anyone can register?

anyone on steam should be able to get in:

Thanks! I have found this earlier but never thought that a post from 2021 is still valid on a topic like this.

Wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t.

Praetorians do closed testing, but the public playtest is open to anyone who wants to download, play and report bugs, give feedback/suggestions, etc.
