[1.3.1.0] Revenger! Celestials, naked Crucible, SR 36, Ascendant Campaign, simple and effective melee Warder

*Revenge for the Avenger? But who will avenge the Revenger?

Foreword

Tired of your Avenger getting nerfed all the time? Are you not a new reworked Upheaval believer? You think that health regeneration is for cowards and set builds are boring? Well then, I do have a build just for you!

Continuing the theme of serious two-handed bonking builds this is a build that came to me in a dream during a full moon that turned out to be much better than I was expecting. I think It’s an incredibly simple and satisfying build to play.

The build

<<<< GRIMTOOLS >>>>

Big bonking questions

Hmmm, so what’s point of choosing it over Avenger? It doesn’t have cowardly health regeneration!
It has a diferent set of wps, both of which have faster frames than what Avenger has (Feral Hunger + Markovian’s Advantage are both faster than Zolhan + Upheaval). Plus it has more upfront leech than Avenger due to big Feral Hunger.

I just noticed that it has ZERO reflect resist!?
I have tested it in Steps of Torment on Ascendant difficulty and against Voidmarked Chests with a juiced up altar and never really came anywhere close to dying due to reflect. However I did die once by smacking some random Reflective Crab hero in Ugdenbog. Depending on your setup you can always use one Titan Plating (and should probably use it if you want this build on Hardcore, together with Owl devotion and get missing cc-res elsewhere). You can see how build performs against reflectors in the videos below.

Why no Deathstalker relic, I thought it was the golden standard on Physical builds??
Deathstalker is still a great relic but here extra skills find us the most crucial hard caps such as Markovian’s Advantage and Brute Force. Also get us a Savagery breakpoint.

Gear/skills/devotions/levelling

On one hand build rocks a pretty simple setup with quite a bit of legendaries, on another hand a lot of those legendaries are crucial in order to reach our WPS hard caps and other important breakpoints. Core items are Troll Bonecrusher (Bleeding item, I know, but with FoA’s tech of manipulating affixes it doesn’t matter anymore), it’s important to roll a lot of attack speed on it (of Alacrity is just a bit worse than of Fury). Markovian Stratagem medal opens up an arc multi-target attack on one of our two WPS, it’s a core item here too, along with the Fleshwarped Casque (low cooldown on War Cry is still very important for efficient farming) and The Crimson Claws gloves (Savagery breakpoint + crucial Feral Hunger mod). Ring slots and amulet slot are all very flexible. Overall try to reach same levels of attack speed and stats with your set of items. Ascends should help us cap our WPS pool with just two wps (if you are not there yet just use Oleron’s Blood in weapon) and get more attack speed and stats.

Skill distribution is standard. Put more points into Decorated Soldier if you need to hard cap your Slow Resist. I chose devotions with Oleron because it’s a great aoe proc and a passive healing source when you have pet scaled pets like Wind Devils.

This is the endgame build. It works as advertised once you equip required gear at character level 100 and repeat my grimtools as close as possible. For levelling/beginner guides look at this forum.

EDIT: A short levelling guide by @Legrad

Gameplay

You facetank everything and try and avoid fighting inside fumble pools. Health will jump but such is the life of a melee. Your best bet is always to facetank and dish out damage and leech back, unless there is a big fumble pool or Null danger, build’s max hit and leech should allow it. What this build is great at: SR 34-35 farm, Ascendant Altar farm, Ravager, Callagadra. What this build is not great at: Mogdrogen and Beronath fights on Ascendant can be a bit annoying (unless you know their potential one shot attacks really well), probably Crate (didn’t try, but always a pain on a melee), Crucible “naked” with extra spawn wave 200 specifically.

Stats

General (including temporary buffs)

Videos

Physical 2h Warder vs. Ravager of Flesh 31 seconds kill

Physical 2h Warder vs. Callagadra 54 seconds kill

Physical 2h Warder vs. Avatar of Mogdrogen

Physical 2-handed Warder farms Voidmarked Chests, Ascendant Altar 3 ashes + 2 asters

Physical 2h Warder vs. Ascended Beronath

Physical 2h Warder vs. SR 34-35 4:27 run

Physical 2-handed Warder farms full altar Ascendant campaign till it dies

In Conclusion

I want to share a couple of very potent Werewolf builds but waiting on Zantai to fix permanent Untamed Rage bug.

Absolute chad of a build, so happy to see the troll mace being used. How much do you reckon does bleed damage contribute to the total dps?

Thank you, I also like to have used this mace in a build like that! Bleeding does not do a lot I reckon, some cosmetic aoe good for some trash clearing at best.

smash smash, nice one, seen this on youtube performance

That helm still bis after war cry was given perma uptime buff at baseline? Nyar helm has +1 skills and phys rr for example

Finally a guide for chad build. Been following your videos in youtube and hope for this. Thanks.

Best in slot and it’s not close (well, Warborn helmet is sort of close if you really need that +1 to Soldier). Difference between casting your damage reduction/resist reduction once in 7.5 seconds and once in 4.5 seconds is huge. Moreover with 7.5 seconds cooldown moving between enemies might become dangerous as you gonna be jumping into fights with no damage reduction and no resist reduction on monsters.

Is there a reason you skip over Shifting Sands for the Attack Speed+DA node in Azrakaa?

Attack speed and upfront DA are more valuable. I know Azrakaa’s proc is more effective DA but proccing it effectively will be a problem (basically have to bind it to Markovian’s Advantage which would be far from ideal).

Makes sense, I was hoping for some more freedom in helm slot after the patch but those effects would still need as much cd as possible for jumping between packs I agree

Gotcha. That makes sense for this build with the inconsistent triggering. I was looking at your devo set up for a Grul’thunn death Knight, and would use death stalker or ill omen for proccing. With your sheet DA over 3k and the attack speed over 200%, i couldn’t see the clear reason for that node. Cheers!

Loved the build whern i tested it and went to level it from scratch on a fresh save.

Too drained by irl work to do a proper guide, so posting a bit of a miniguide here for those who are interested in how to level this Warder. It is quite simple actually. Both simple and very good, since our core item is available pretty early into the game.

Main weapon can be easily shopped from secret blood grove merchant (https://grimdawn.fandom.com/wiki/Benevald_-_Strange_Wares)
Troll club enables all the needed stuff for us, look for “of alacrity” suffix. Can switch up to Savagery gaming at level 40 with no problem, I’ve leveled to this stage just with Blade Arc (can be Blitz, Forcewave or whatever)

lvl70 snapshot Warder, Level 70 (GD 1.3.1.0) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
At this stage leveling setup is basically fully fledged out. If you got no Zealot’s gloves, just use Rover’s gloves.
Skill priorities to raise: Savagery MAX, wps just enough to 100% with emphasis on Feral Hunger, Brute Force MAX, then level up Soldier tree to get to Oleron’s Rage (12/12), Squad Tactics (12/12) and Scars of Battle (7/8). After that max Mog pact, level Shaman tree a bit and go max War Cry and Break Morale.

Factions and blacksmith doesn’t matter much here, just make sure to be friendly with Barrowholm.
For devotions - early on we rush Kraken, go for this path:
Green Crossroads → Fox → remove Green Cross
Blue Crossroads → Sailor’s Guide → Remove Sailor’s Guide
Kraken
After that just follow mad_lee’s devotion tree.
For attributes just go for 1:2 phys\cunning and a little bit of spirit to meet ring’s requirements.

That’s it, setup is extremely easy to level, it got both good tank and damage even on leveling.
Will update this post later when i reach endgame.

9/10 bonks!

Bonus points for usage of Blind fury proc, have not seen that in 69 years

I was considering making a build like this since feral hunger got such a big damage boost, but how does it stack up against avenger warder, considering that also got buffed significantly?

Stacks up well. Better leech, damage is similiar. Avenger has more aoe. Tank depends on what kind of Avenger spec we are talking about.
