About the effect of removing equipment on pets

I was the player who killed the Ravager of Minds in 16 seconds in version v1.1.7.2.

I am a Chinese gamer and I am sorry for my poor English.I am here to give my own suggestions and reasons.

The principle of upgrading a pet by changing gear is to upgrade a pet with a specific gear or provide special effects, and then switch back to normal gear. However, this operation was removed in the v1.1.8.0 update——【All summoned pets are now unsummoned if equipment affecting their skill level is removed. 】

But I personally don’t think it affects the balance of the game!

First of all, only a handful of players are doing this. I have posted the principles and procedures of this method on the forums, but the majority of players find it troublesome and refuse to do it.

Secondly, after the death of the pet, it will lose the previous effect, and it is very troublesome to change the equipment again. This mode of operation is not suitable for the majority of players’ daily play, but only a small number of players’ fun.

Finally, this kind of manipulation adds variety to the game, and it’s fun to change gear to make pets look different.

Here I hope the production team can take a look at hearthstone’s approach. For example, the current quest Warlock and other cards that most players are playing will affect the balance of the game and thus weaken it, but the miracle Thief and other difficult cards with fewer players will not weaken it. I think the summoners who change equipment in GD fall into the latter category.

To sum up, I sincerely hope that the production team can change the effect of pet equipment back. Since there have been no major updates since version v1.1.9.0, the re-introduction of summoners with special pets will help revitalize old players like me, as well as make the game fun for new players!

I do hope that the production team will see my suggestion and consider a callback in version v1.1.9.2 !!!

no no no no no no no no!!!

Pretty sure a lot more people were making use of it back then, especially when it became apparent that it worked for Guardians of Empyrion as well so it wasn’t just pet players.

If you have a look around, it was heavily debated:

The first change of gear affects Guardians of Empyrion and Blade Sprites were removed in early versions.I don’t have any objection to this behavior.

But the update for pets came in version v1.1.8.0, because someone posted a 16-second video of me killing the Ravager of Minds to the forums.

The difference between them and pets is that they are invincible and pets die.

So changing gear to improve their level is a one-size-fits-all action, whereas with pets it’s completely different and needs to be repeated once the pet dies.

I think the issue then is they cannot allow this behaviour for Guardians of Empyrions and other similar pets whilst have it not effect actual pets without significant time and effort invested. It’s either all or nothing.

I’m not denying that the mechanics are the same, but it’s important to consider how many apps are actually used in the game.

The mechanic is dead, but the person who uses it is alive.

Of course what I’m saying can only be suggestions, it’s normal for everyone to have their own opinions. The result is still up to the production team

thing is, there will always be some players that like busted mechanics one way or another - whether said mechanic reaches “exploit” levels is then in the hands of the developers
because after all they balance the game with their intents in minds, regardless if this effect is used by 1 or 1million players
if a developer don’t wish for a certain effect/player to become strong in a XY specific way, they change it so the player can’t get the same benefit.
This is not unique to Grim Dawn game either, and constantly goes on

Zantai might be “notorious” for his zeal of nerfing builds/the game and "no fun allowed"meme, but there is always some form of method to the madness, and not like he sees something and feels “oh i wanna break their toy just to have fun”
Crate appears to have this overall intent where stuff is evened out; some stuff might be really really strong, but don’t wish for things to be brokenly OP
^but they allow you to mod the game if you’d want ex “godmode” type of fun
-another part of the “broken strong” features that was removed some time back was when hit rating from DA received cap so we couldn’t get 100% immunity
this might have not been fun for some, but it shows that in the minds of devs at least for their vision of the game, you weren’t supposed to immortal “that way”

balance patches/mechanic updates taking something away will always impact the user that used said specific element, but at its core it’s not meant to ruin “your” fun, the developers just intended for the playing field to be more level than it was so things don’t just tilt one way on the scales all the time for “all” players
i think the massive attention and rebalancing of ex pet builds over time, and retaliation “recently” highlights this very well (even if this is slightly diff general rebalancing than straight up removing a mechanic)

No other playstyle besides pets benefited so dramatically from actively swapping gear.

For a time, we believed it was tedious enough and achieved minimal gains, but evidence kept emerging to the contrary. I don’t even know what 16s video you are referring to, so that was not the reason, but that is without question a result that indicates this was a problem.

Under no circumstance would we put an exploit back in the game.

I am very glad to receive your reply.

Anyway I respect the decision of the production team and wish GD better and better.
