An icon could be installed to choose which field to use the fertilizer on, because they always add it to the ones I need the least
Check you compost yards. There’s a section about the fertilization where you can choose the criteria for the application of fertilizer. By default, it should be applied automatically to fields with the lowest fertility, but you can toggle the option to do it manually instead. If your on the automatic option with you compost yards, maybe double check to make sure they’re all set correctly.
