First of all, love the game so far. More so after Scorv arrived the first time at my Village.
Now to topic:
1.Apiary&Arborist
I don’t see both buildings as a lacklustre, but thinking about putting them more in synergy.
As far as i understand the dynamic of the apiary it gets bonusyields from the gardens, shrubs and parks of the decoration tab? So stuff that blooms. As the trees the arborist plants. More so, as we know nowadays, bees and other pollinators are essential for the arborists work(not so shure if this was knowledge in the good olde days, but i didn’t research in depth).
So my idea in short: Bees can use fruit trees and maybee push the yields of the arborist a little?
Again, non of them would need a buff, numberwise. It would be just something i thought you guys would dig. (and maybe then expand on crops like Clover, flax, beans and peas…)
Bread for the People, straw for the cows
Milling/Harvesting Grain ahould produce extra resource straw.
It feels just a little bit odd to feed grain to lifestock. with this split both sides would profit.
Cliffs, gorges, rough terrain.
Atm i’m playing on a alpine valley map, also having peaked in lowland lakes.
a thing i’m missing dearly are rough breaks in the land. Other than an esthetic reason, it could also be a to go point for stone quarries or salt mines, but also yield challenges( cutting the direct line to a resource, caves where bears could dwell, rockslides.
Also maybe it would be possible to build bridges. Joke’s on you guys, i didn’t care much about bridges before GD.
So, and as i wrote my 2 cents, smallpox struck my little darkvale and took a quarter of my population. Again, LOVE IT!
It’s silly how the highest honey bonus comes from being around homes/buildings and NOT around the fruit trees or farms. It makes no sense. Highest bonus should be around those.
I like the straw idea. But I think they would need to reduce the yield of the grain if you are going to also produce straw, otherwise you will easily have too much grain.
Thing I don’t like is that you can’t seal up a wall to a hillside or to water. Enemies just walk right around the edge of the wall. I also wish they had a “Fill Tool” to go with the “Flatten Tool”. I really hate how one poor flatten will ruin an area, and if only a tiny spot is too low you have to take down the entire area, instead of just raise up the one little spot. I’m fine with making it require more work time if they are worried about people making crazy terrain.
1 - I agree with that, the bees should improve the yield from orchards.
At the begining i thought that the honey bonus came the most from the gardens in the city. Maybe it´s right but it depends on the size of the gardens. Outside in the field i usually have a production of 70%-75% in many places for the apiary. I think that this production rate changes over the year, depending on the season. (moar production in spring, summer, because moar flowers.)
2- Speaking on Straw. The area that you assign to straw gets a super bonus of soil fertilization. That´s the ideal way to increase the soil fertilization in an active orchard, because the option to use fertilizer is not avaible.
In my experience, in a town of almost 500 citizens, you don´t have lack of grain. If you do well the production of wheat and rye and you keep high the fertilize ratio in those fields, you can have a very high grain production.
3 . It could be nice if they add interior mines with moar production only for the mountains. Also agree with quarries, or if not, put huge rocks in certain places for extraction.
Also agreed with bridges.
Didn’t know about that, since i have no in depth knowledge about farming or lifestock keeping.
But then again, was this already knowledge in the days of the past?
Only asking, because in my childhood neighbours of mine were dairy farmers and what i remember is, that straw was always there. Apart from hay of course.
Also i remember a trip too in a very rural and secluded mountain area of the ex-udssr where they had cows and horses. The trip was in early april and the animals were downright emaciated. Wich would work with the bad nutrition of straw.
And again, it’s not that any of the mechanics needs to be buffed. The grain production works also fine for me atm.
I just know that straw is a byproduct of grain farming and would like to use it as resource.
