Nope that is pretty unbalanced, I never said it was that, I wrote also that it needs to be fine-tuned
My my, I feel like that unbalance should’ve been easy to notice by playtesters.
Too bad you wasn’t a playtester.
But changing the required material is an easy fine-tune thing. Having it permanent is a bigger deal
Would you prefer if both required Manticore Eyes or Royal Jellies
No idea I have like 9000 of each don’t you?
I did a fresh start for this expansion so no, I was just curious where you draw the line
That is self-imposed ![]()
I think 1 manticore eye is too expensive and 1 royal jelly too cheap.
All I see are posts from 2018 with 0 likes and no responses from that one dude ![]()
Thanks for the laugh
I am the sort of player who would in theory be bothered by this because I like farming for individual MIs (and, fwiw, have done hundreds of 2 minute Gollus runs). However, I think this system isn’t meant to help with that style of farming, and I think that’s fine. That’s to say, I think that both Ascendant difficulty, and the altar, are intended to make the campaign world a viable alternative to Crucible and SR for wholesale farming. This is how it was presented during FoA’s development - third pillar of the endgame and so on.
I don’t think there is really a split in the playerbase between people that play very short sessions and those that play longer ones. In reality, everyone does a mixture. As I say, I do a lot of quick farming runs when that’s what I feel like (and when I need some item obv). But I don’t, as a general rule, play the game in 2 minute chunks. That would be absurd.
I also think that part of the point of the altar is that it creates a demand for mats beyond the theoretical “I might need it for crafting one day”. Thus it creates an incentive to farm those mats. I think that’s good. An interesting question, though, is how easy it is to make altar-juiced sessions self-sustaining with regard to mats.
Specifically on the question of Manticore Eyes, they are just too rare - but this has been said before.
Also, on the subject of Gollus Rings, FoA gives us the following new workflow:
1 farm for a ring with one good affix
2 reroll the second affix
3 get crap repeatedly until it becomes too expensive
4 go to 1
Please make the loot and monster bonusses carry over to each session in place of having to spend materials each session. As pointed out by others, it is quite cumbersome to activate the alter for each session.
Well his FG trade threads were quite active
also there is lots of trade going on in discor (or at least used to be)
Oh yeah, Scarabs are TOTALLY the same.
Maybe if you had new fancy scarabs that lasted FOR THE CURRENT PLAY SESSION AND NOT JUST ONE MAP it would be even remotely comparable.
The Scarabs are for ONE map only, no matter what you do. The Ascension Altar buffs lasts for however long you keep the current session. They are not comparable.
I meant that the consideration of investment i the same for me. “How am I gonna squeeze the potential value of this rare scarab” not complaining about it like “duh this is so rare why cant it last for 10 maps instead of just 1”
This.
Without an altar what are ya’ll going to use your hundreds of matts for?
Also, I don’t see a problem in starting your farm route with farming back the matts you just inserted (except things like Lotuses ofc).
I see it as having a worthy tradeoff system.
“Likes” weren’t a thing until the forum software switched to Discourse sometime in 2019, so pretty much every post made in 2018 has 0 likes.
I see where you’re coming from with that, and I guess I can agree that the price would be too high for that increased drop chance
Although, MI’s can also randomly drop in ascendant mode
Honestly, that is not what I said at all
What I did say, you can stick on a lot of mechanics in this game, and ARPGs in general
Change the word ‘altar’ to the words ‘xp pot’ and your argument is moot
It may surprise you, but I, as well as other long time players, play both short and long sessions
I have an adult life you know…
Don’t twist my words
I see the problem with target farming an MI, but without use of the altar you would have to reset the session as well
What you pay for is the higher drop chance
Maybe the price is too steep, I can follow such thinking
Edit: maybe the elephant in the room, is the willingness to farm the mats in the needed abundance before target farming the wanted item
Manticore eyes, for example, are easily gathered…
