What is the current verdict between those two constellations in terms of overall gain for aether focused builds?
SoH because same affinities as Dying God and Aeon’s Hourglass. Plus it’s an “when hit” proc, which is easier to fit into a build than another “on attack” proc.
I’m using Attak Seru, and while it’s cool thematically, there is sort-of anti-synergy inside of it, with both a non WD proc, and flat elemental damage fit for WD builds.
SoTH by fucking miles
that comparison

Not using DG on anything but pet, vita and chaos builds so not a consideration to me.
I don’t understand why that is so funny or ridiculuous.
I don’t hang around the builds forum all that much but from my experience I’ve never seen attak seru appear. It has received buffs over time but I can’t comment on how it performs now. However it is one of the most costly constellation to unlock. Spear of the heavens on the other hand unlocks access to other goodies like Aeon’s Hourglass and Dying God which all have great nodes and devotion powers that aether builds like to use.
He finds it amusing that you would even compare the 2. He’s just being a cheeky bastard.
But we love our john. <3
EDIT: Might be worth reading the devotion guide I wrote up. It’s found in the guides/tutorial section.
Attack seru is… not terrible, if you were already aiming at Elemental Seekers (much better constellation) but the proc is decidedly lackluster and unless you already have most of the affinity needed (like an ele build might) the stats wouldn’t be worth it imo
The last person publicly seen using Atak Seru was Inquisitor Creed when he tried to bring back Ulgrim from the void. This was when I lost all respect for that guy…
Spear of Heavens: Godly proc, great nods, great devotion route, possibility of grabbing super strong Aeon and Dying God if going Aether route.
Attack Seru: decent nods. Everything else is very subpar.
Long story short - forget Attack Seru exists unless it’s reworked completely.
seru works well, but only with heavy conversion and even then it’s not ideal. it’s fun to use though i quite like it after the most recent buffs on my proc deceiver tbh. i convert ~75% of the aether and those things do work when you got 4-5 of em up and they look sweet
SoH is one of the better constellations in the game. For elemental build,Sage is way good,Seru lacks offensive nodes, like crit damage or OA,proc is ok,but not good and affinity points will force you to take sub par devos.New Korvak devo can create new path,so absolutely no reason to use Seru.I have counter question, which path is worse Seru or Vire and what’s the worst T3 constellation?
If you have 100% ele to aether conversion then Seekers+Currents+Whirpool combination is not all that bad actually, but Currents need some class A proccer skill like RE or devils or something you spam like CT, PRM or a component skill for example.
>Spear of the Heavens proc good
Did i miss something? Then again, i haven’t used it in ages.
Well it’s passive, bound to aura, hits often, decent damage with WD component,so you can life steal in small amounts.Plus the nodes are good and you are already in the vicinity for aether or lightning builds.
Last I used Attk Seru (pre-FG/recent patches), the proc had terrain-interference issues. Much like the terrain interference of Ring of Fire and Ice …but with RoFI you can move around to avoid this somewhat, since your character is the origin.
I think the fact that SotH is a passive proc with fairly high %proc chance is pretty nice when you have a ton of other actives to do or limited skill options.
And, as mentioned, the SotH path is maybe a little too convenient.
It was buffed many patches ago, now it’s nice.
I actually used attak seru on my FoI Magehunter…http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75720
You missed out one of the most relevant skill for attak seru; stormbox (or more like lightning tether). Same damage type and stormbox only requires a cast every few seconds. The amount it hits per second makes it brilliant to proc attak seru at maximum efficiency too.
EoR is another perfect skill for Arcane Currents (attak seru), its extremely high attack rate even with only 1 enemy present make it trivial to proc basically on cooldown. But you also really want full, or nearly full, damage conversion to get the most benefit out of it.
As far as DPS goes it’s miles ahead of SoH, but only if you can meet the specific requirements to make full use of it. SoH is just easier in general to throw on any Aether build and not worry about it.
This is my current Aether EoR Soulare build that uses it: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/4ZDeEeBN
as for the DPS of it, 5 arcane currents combined is nearly as much DPS as EoR itself, giving you one of the best DPS increases you can get on this kind of build. The same devotion path nets you Seekers as well, which are another small DPS bump and great screen clearers in general.
SoH on the other hand would be a pretty poor path to take for this as its dps output, particularly vs bosses, is very low. Aeon is unneeded and largely wasted for this build as well.
