Auto Potion Pickup

Yes, a stack of potions requires a slot in the grid of your inventory, but

Hmmm, I hope so.
In these kind of games I usually end up with too many potions and just sell them to vendors because “precious inventory space is precious”.

I personally don’t think that auto potion pickup should be added to this game, and the same with gold.
Picking up every single item yourself is a huge part of action-rpg’s in my opinion

I would prefer not to pick up gold, it was actually one of the things I hated about D2.

Picking up gold was so overrated in D2.
Every monster seemed to drop it. Most was in small amounts too.
Having just the big bosses drop like 50,000 every time would have been way better. Or have a simple respawning gold quest if you needed it badly to repair.
There was much pointless clicking involved. We gotta keep our mice alive for a very long time. lol.

There won’t be different strengh for potions, so you won’t have 5 different stacks of potions in inventory. And the stacks will be from 50 to 99 potions (the number isn’t final). And, because it seems potions won’t be a common drop (but a valuable one) I’m sure we all need them for use or cash.

I’ll be all for it as long as there are ways to customize the way it works.

On/Off toggle would be nice, having the option to only pick up specific potion types would be great!

Please, do not expand auto pickup on the Potions, let us click and pick it up manually, like in Titan Quest.

Because - for example - if we play co-op and a chest / mob drops 2 or more Potions, me and my mate we will pick up 1 for each…

it’s a lot more faster than open the backpack, split the potions and pass it to him, if there will be the auto pick up for those items… if you throw it on the ground and you move away (to let him auto-pick the potions) maybe it could mess up the stuff, because the range of auto-pick will " ninja " again the potions…

Better way is to keep the " click " on potions

I guess PoE has offered one of the best ways to handle potions. No worries neither about picking them up (tedious and boring) nor about distributing them (every one gets his own fill rate). This way it makes sense.
And yet the best way would be bring this option to settings. Those who like potions to be auto picked up just check this position, others uncheck it and every one is kept happy.

I like the PoE method too, after playing beta a couple months ago. Although I haven’t encountered a boss fight yet. Out in the world, it was great. Better than looting common potions and having them stack up in inventory. And better than health orbs in D3 which I always used too early or too late or didn’t get one when I needed it.

IF

  • there is one size potion
  • they stack to 50 or 99 (for example)
  • they drop after killing monsters

THEN

  • use the PoE method, or at least evaluate it. Maybe too late at this point, but it’s pretty good.

As with all my opinions about game play, I’ll eventually find the mod that does it the way I want it so I don’t really care either way.

Btw… I’ve lost this point initially - why are you talking about distributing potions if players most possibly will have their own loot each? So you both can have, say, 0-2 potions from a chest/mob which can be autopickuped without worries as the other player(s) won’t even see these potions unless you drop them intentionally from your inventory after picking up.

Well if the potions are actually rare/expensive items (which I think would be amazing, since the potions management was one of TQ flaw), AND there is a single size (which is also very cool), then the auto pick-up seems like a great idea

It’s funny to see how very small details can really lead to important differences in gameplay. I think that making the potions harder to get or craft can give a exciting survival approach that would fit GD atmosphere.

An option toggle be fine for me. I don’t collect potions once I have a “decent amount” in my bags and a stack “health and mana” (most games) as backup/twinking in my stash. That’s just me. I usually have more gold/money/trades than a merchant has stuff for me, interesting, to buy.

With that out of the way … makes a helluva more sense in a Omega Man landscape to pick up everything, that is useful let alone critical, one can. Be it for (roleplay) themselves, trading/bartering, their team/base/faction/buddies.

In that case auto-pickup is the way to go.

PoE has one of the most annoying methods when it comes to picking stuff up. You need to press alt or ctrl and then the drops become clickable. That is really annoying the longer you play. So I hope GD will avoid something like that.

I certainly didn’t have much issue picking up stuff from PoE. Then again, I like to press a lot of buttons, otherwise I would not be posting a lot here.

i don’t mind pressing an additional button to get extra information regarding an item. however in diablo, torchlight, dungeonsiege, titan quest etc you can pick up items without pressing. in the beginning it didn’t bother me that much in PoE. But it got more irritating the further i got hehe.

I actually hated picking up things in torchlight since I would end up picking up unnecessary things that I really don’t need by accident, and that kinda pet peeved me since I would have to be very careful picking up items, and not end up picking up everything. Especially those that drop things like pinatas, oh gawd, that was annoying to sort out.

Luckily TQ didn’t have too much pinata drops, so I didn’t mind picking up things automatically.

In that case pressing a key like in TQ worked fine. You could have all items on the floor show up as text and then you clicked the line of text instead. Accurate pick ups. But once again. It was an optional feature for those that prefer it.

Gibly, in PoE, you just have to check an option to make all items takeables. I never use ALT or something to take them. Options are useful in every games, we just need to check them once or twice to see the changes after patches ^^ Maybe in GD too, some will change after playing some times.

Should be a Toggle for different wants.
