Build Diversity...

Mage hunter with black flame set. U can get on the char 30% physic ress with 2 “seals”.

Why am i wrong? i did’nt say it was universal or not. i did’nt say it was right or not the nerf. I just spoke about diversity and seeing in the first week only N&O builds that’s all.

Like now i am not pissed even i made a chaos build that using DG. We will see what bring the patch.

I share the same sentiment as Belzzzz. While I have posted ‘meta’ builds (I think the most infamous of which is my EoR warlord), I do gravitate towards building weird whacky stuff - e.g. 2H tainted flames deceiver, blightlord shieldbreaker, DW RE cabalist - just to name a few.

I think maya and I are also the only builders who gauge the quality of builds in naked crucible :stuck_out_tongue:

@OP:

  1. Jabby’s bonemonger is going to be untouched. Z himself said that they plan on reverting those nerfs.

  2. About seeing those retal warlords…I think a lot of them came from crafters who have posted little to no builds, and just wanted to have something in the compendium.

That’s certainly something I can understand. The easiest way to go about that clearly was with broken builds.

I think some crafters - mad_lee, john smith, belzzzz, and myself (I’m sure I’m forgetting others too) - made a pretty conscious effort to push out non warlord builds.

  1. Build diversity isn’t dead as I think the crafting community have proven sufficiently that SR 76 can be done by a whole myriad of different builds (I think my favorite is x1x2’s skaterboy :p).

As it currently stands, the better word to use to describe build diveristy is “impractical”. Most players arent as hardcore as those who frequent the forums are, and they want to feel that sense of progression/power as they play GD.

So, it makes sense to me for them to gravitate the most powerful class combination - the warlord.

To give crate credit where credits due, I do think they are trying hard to level the playing field for other classes but they’ve unfortunately already left a lasting impression on the GD community about the meta of the game.

And it’s never easy to change someone’s perspective.

I know of players who’ve quit GD because it’s near impossible (as of 1.1.1.2) to really make a competitive build capable of contesting the warlord.

And there are others who are going to quit because the warlord has been knocked off its pedestal:

Thank you Craft!

  1. In addition, crate is also quite good at buffing things as well. Rebalancing is often a function of toning down (sometimes overly harshly) overtuned builds, and bumping up underperforming ones.

AAR is a great example of this.

@Ymiraku

I don’t know what you mean by ‘etc. etc.’ because that seems arbitrary. But here’s one:

Yeah well its not an easy job balancing 36 class combos lol. There are always going to be some builds which overperform and some which underperform. Personally I like the underdogs, and tbh i would rather suffer than spin2win.

Yeah I already said that infiltrator is one of the top tier builds, its pretty impressive that it can facetank ravager. Albeit with a heap of consumables.

Of course. As do I.

I’d like to point out that my EoR warlord was made with the sole purpose of proving that it needed to be nerfed.

However, it’s also unrealistic to project our preference onto the world at large.

I’m not sure of GD’s history, but afaik, this is the biggest power difference in class combos I’ve ever seen.

Which is why (in my limited perspective) I think the changelog seems ‘overly harsh’ to many players.

Edited my post. Happier now? :stuck_out_tongue:

Theres a few crazy caster paladin builds out there too which are pretty broken. I dunno, i just can’t get into oathbreaker. Personally I find it kind of gimmicky and boring. But I can see why its so popular.

Its funny that warlord is OP, I remember RIFT back in the day, warlord was a class which was almost unkillable and could 2 shot enemy players. Just seemed amusing to me that I see another warlord class pop up in another game and its really OP.

I also want to mention that I try hard to post builds to show that skills/classes need help.

  1. DW chillwhisper RoH (but I respect crate’s decision regarding RoH)
  2. 2H tainted flame deceiver
  3. AAR binder (this was waaaaay back in the day)
  4. Deathguard cabalist

Others have done the same too - ya_ with rah’zin, DEE, etc.

And, it was lost in the rollback, a very thorough and interesting feedback of Harra’s Set from mad_lee and Valinov (if I remember correctly).

Exactly, and the rest of the post.

Just want to state the obvious(no bad words for Crate especially–been there/done that/ am over it) but the way we ourselves approach and play the game tends to influence what we think the game needs.

As a casual player, I come to the build compendium looking for two kinds of builds–first and foresmost, the most powerful build I can find simply because I NEED one to do self-found farming, get all those goodies UP normal builds aren’t able to get, and thusly amass the gear for all those fun, less tanky, and let’s face it FAR more interesting builds that I want to try, so they will at least survive in Ultimate AoM.

The other is that I’m looking for ideas on one of those more interesting, whacky druid/warlock/sorc/whatever outsider’s builds because the need to play it suddenly came to me in the middle of the night, and people here know all the best ways to get there. :stuck_out_tongue:

So imo one leads to the other–and the nerf hammer will fall, but then we start again, I guess.

TLDR: OP builds empower diversity by allowing less powerful builds to gear up and play. Keep it up.

I suspected as much, but seized the opportunity to contribute to the discussion.

True that, and it’s really appreciated (i know I do). I wasn’t asking for the experienced people to stop doing that, just encouraging people that may not usually post and prefer lurking to, well, just post and share their experiences. Customary posters always have their bias, we’re all humans. In short, build diversity can only truly come from diversity of feedback!

The million dollar question - What is an acceptable amount of ‘overpower-ness’?

I understand that certain sets are going to perform better than others, but surely the WL deserved a nerf?

You must also remember crate’s vision for GD - which is a hardcore RPG game designed for such players.

Soldier deserved the nerf cause of warlord?

I don’t play the soldier enough to comment, but there was something inherently OP about how the soldier synergized with the OK.

Play the OK with most other classes, and it’s not too OP.

Play the soldier with most other classes, and it’s also not too OP.

But put the 2 together…

i highly disagree about this post. and i also deeply laugh about wording ‘builder’

dont get me wrong guys but you guys seriously think building s&b warlord around octavious, pierce belgothian X class, acid w/e melee nblade or fire mortar trap i posted is a real thing? mortar trap guy took me maybe less than 2 hours to settle, 1 hours to tweak, 3-5 tries to make video.

we/you are not breaking game by making some powerfull build, you are already cooking your meal with what ‘crate gives you’… you know that right ?
optimizing already MADE SETs here or there, some devotions tricks doesnt make you wizard in this game, and most importantly doesnt make you a ‘builder’ or whatever.

you seriously think, crate was not aware of retal builds gonna be broken ? they even legit said that ‘they already knew it was gonna be so powerfull’ on twitch before they made phys retal changes on game.
i am %100 sure they already knew, they just change all ‘pierce retal’ to phys retal and wanted to see whats gonna happen to balance it. and most funny part, player base who wants retal builds to be more viable and active, started to cry after new patch balance changes. human being greedy shouldnt surprise me anymore i guess.
same goes for N&O, i bet %95 of dw melee player base knew nex and ortus was gonna be super strong.
same goes for dying god.

i dont quite understand most of the logic behind ‘my build got nerfed’ babyrage
you guys seriously play only 1 build in this game? post your build, show us something cool and move on next build… weird man weird
and you guys seriously think writing down a 1 guide make you owner of a simple build ? congratz you make a demonslayer pb build, i bet no1 earth would ever think that…

i also highly disagree about build diversity is non exist in GD. this game offers a lot than many people think in every aspects.
if you set crucible 150 170 6 7 min, sr 75 as your benchmark its your problem, tons of casual players and weird builds can do crucible 150 170 and reach sr 50. and current SR state is complete garbage and doesnt suit to gd anyway.

my best wishes with crate balance team right now, cause imo its so hard to work with some part of community like this.
if you love/like this game try to help crate balance the game, if you see some builds extremely outperforms items and devotions write down your game experience and show something. i find this attitude so childish that ‘my build gonna nerf soon, i shouldnt post it bla bla’… this is plain stupid

Lol, flashback to 2 years ago where the builders had discussed a secret Discord channel where they all share their OP builds that they didn’t post so Crate wouldn’t nerf them.

I’m sure it existed and I have much respect for those guys and they can do what they want, but I remember how silly that sounded.

Orange power.

Yeah, it’s a balancing act, and I hope Zantai is home now with PC and devices off for 24 hours, enjoying whatever therapy is handy before having to read responses, sifting through the complaints for what is valid and what isn’t–and how many devs would even do that?.

AFA WL, I’m not complaining, just explaining why the OPness for optimized Crucible/Shards/Celestials may not be as OP elsewhere for others, and why the game needs some. I still have every farming build I ever built, and use them where they can be productive, so I’m sure my WL will not be tossed on the trash heap.
