When can I give you guys $5 more to upgrade to the $50 version that gives alpha access? I hope it will be possible and not super complicated.
Really wish I paid more attention to what the Kickstarter tiers offered - for some reason I thought getting the free expansion version would of course come with alpha access. >_<
Yeah, didn’t like it either and took me forever to get a patch from a game there that I bought from the devs website but they somehow ended up releasing patches on the Humble site only.
You have fast and easy download (and even torrent) accessible from command line, separated by platform and goodies, plus you need no log-in, only your e-mail and there is no DRM (or region lock or max no. of download).
when will the humble store provide steam keys, I mean only about 10% are not going to want a steam download. As soon the alpha is released every man and his dog will be coming to this site asking the same question.
Tbh i see the humble store as a place where kids sell the iphone games that they made over the easter holidays. I see grim dawn as a better game than that.
I honestly do not like the look of the website and I’m still wondering what the hell they are selling. I understand the whole thing about time being taken away from developing when you have to do customer support and all that, though. I just hope these people are good and know what they’re doing.
The humble store does not aggregate every games they sell. The advertising is let to the developer, the sells are made via the humble store widget which can be see here, here and on every other games sold on it…
For the Devs, their is a lot of advantages for using it, yes Steam offer lot of visibility (and it’s likely that steam sales will bring in more money to Crate than preorders, kickstarter, humble store + Gog+ whatnot), but also get a larger cut on the sales (30% VS 5% for humble store), and reserve the right to put in “on sales” whenever they wants. And even then Humble Store gives you Steam keys om lot of games (it says “redeemable on Steam” on the widged) and when I bought Grimrock I got GOG key has well. And even with the semi-monopole of Steam over digital game on PC, other distribution platform exist (Desura, GOG, Indivania, Gamersgate, Get Games, Impulse…) and some games are successful without using it (Minecraft, Diablo).
@Reynold
See the list on http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Humble_Store#cite_note-1 and find one game that is worse than, lets say War Z or Alien colonial marine, heck just look the screenshots of Trine on google. The humble store is a service used by lot of the most successful indie games, there is some beta/alpha on it, but I’ve not seen any crap yet.
So I’ll be waiting the http://www.humblebundle.com/store/grimdawn . It might not be the best platform ever, but it remove lot’s of headache for Crate on how to commercialize and distribute an unfinished game partially paid with crowfunding.
nice to see the paypal option there, that certainly going to help those that couldn’t back the game and didn’t have a credit card or accepted debit card, but yeah, awesome work this will help no end
your key is safe, if you not entered your name for the credits, you can still do so, but anyone that does buy a key from now on will not have that option anymore,
