Farthest Frontier is a very well done game, visually interesting, and rich with game mechanics. It’s a sandbox game though, so the goal you set is somewhat artificially self imposed. I think that adding a campaign, story mode or missions would add a lot of experience to an already great game. It’s what kept me going in games like Settlers and Cultures*
We could have missions where:
- you take charge of a struggling settlement with ruined fields, half of it burned down, sickness is rampant and your goal is to make it thrive again.
- you command an army with the task to clear out the roving bandits.
- you take part in the gold rush, where banditism, alcoholism and wild animals are a major challenges, and compete with neighboring towns
- get shipwrecked on an island where a group of 25 have to survive 20 years fending for themselves. No trade, no immigrants and no fertile soil.
A storyline where you follow Eowynd and his family as they each attempt to settle the Frontier and encounter unique challenges along the way.
A campaign where you become a king sponsored explorer, where you expand the kingdoms.
- Take a caravan and survive a trek north through wildlife infested woods
- Settle the north and ship back 2000 hides within 12 years while locked into tier 2
- Build up defenses for an existing settlement and defend against pirate raids
- Take an army and defeat the pirates at their cove
- Expand a peaceful little hamlet into a trade center rivaling the old world and pay 100k in tribute
- Siege a rival kingdom’s outpost
- Could keep going
With enough content this could be a serious expansion to the game.
So much is possible and if the community is given access to the map editor, trigger and event system and such they could add a huge number of custom community maps.
