I’m not sure if there was a change that altered the requirements for someone to be allowed to teach. In the past I was able to assign a teacher as soon as the building was finished (it added it automatically, actually.) Now it isn’t letting me assign one. I clicked the + symbol on the empty slot. I tried removing the slot and adding it back. I tried disabling production and re-enabling it. I tried tearing the school down and building it anew. No such luck. Error has persisted through save reloading. I have four laborers available to assign at present. I tested it with over 12 available to no avail.
Nothing has changed, you were just lucky before that you had a spare villager who was educated to fill that slot. Now you either need to wait for a migrant who’s educated to come to your town or alternatively unassigned all job positions in the Professions window and then try to assign the teacher; it could be there’s an educated villager who’s doing another job atm. If you do find one, then you just need to reassign all the other job positions again.
After assigning all of my villagers a profession, I was able to click the add icon and select an assigned villager from another job to take on the teaching assignment. I suspect the requirement is that a person be a senior citizen. If no senior is avaliable, but there are free laborers, I suspect automating giving the alternative job to the free worker and moving the senior to the school when clicking the plus icon.
No. They just have to have a basic education already and not be assigned to a job for the game to take them automatically. You apparently had some with education requirement already but they were otherwise employed. By reducing your laborers to zero, it brought up the list of qualified but already employed people to choose from and let you pick from there.
Right. Since the game doesn’t do much in the way of explaining specific mechanics I believe it would do well to automate the assigning of educated people to that role and replacing them in the former position.
