Carson's adventures (commando 2-handed melee forcewave) BASE GAME ATM ONLY!

this is a story about Grim Dawn commando survivor, his rise to power and liberation of humanity.

found some extra good stuff for my build, prior to that, had around 800 dps

movin on, cleared Salazar and Gutworm with no problems, timely drinking of health potion and skill spam.
Gutsworm Bloody Seal will be nice addition to my dps imo

Good luck with the build. :slightly_smiling_face: We don’t get enough journal type threads here. Might want to mention that you only have the base game atm; people will advise you thinking you have the expansions as well.

good point and thank you very much
I’m spending most of my points in Cunning for damage, is that ok ?
and Devotion I went for Bull 1st, didn’t see guides considering it, but I wanted to give it a try.
Yes I’ll pick Kraken later and Assassin’s Blade asap

No, usually you want to put all your attribute points into physique and only into cunning or spirit to equip items. If/when you get the Ashes of Malmouth expanison you’ll earn some potions that allow you to reset your attribute points as part of quest rewards.

You also need to decide what type of damage you want to do so you can choose your devotions, skills, gear, etc, to boost that.

physical mostly + fire because of commando

Ok, i’ll stop putting into cunning, it was fun thou to see my damage rise ^^

don’t sweat it, dmg increase from cunning is veery small when you level
you get like 0.5% bonus phys dmg per cunning point, each attribute adds 8pts, so thats 4% bonus phys dmg each time you level up
and %dmg in GD is additive, that’s why those small amounts are drops in a bucket

You pick cunning in the early levels to increase your offensive ability, so that you hit more, meaning things die faster.

thank you guys, reached lvl 20, my dam again rising quite well imo

defeated Krieg, damage output has gone quite UP since last post, got one more strong 2 handed melee weapon ready for me at level 24

Should I start using loot filter heavily from now on ?
can I setup it so that I get all the items beyond rare, but only specific damage type (physical, fire) underneath rare class.

I like selling all greens for $$$. You got very few iron bits now.
If you setup damage type for greens you could miss some very useful ones, with lots of resistances for example.

and I’m still afraid to remove magical items from loot filter, cause some of them are stronger and more useful at this point than rare and above

found really nice medal, together with some other items I’ve changed, my dps went much higher again in just 1-2 character levels

on your very first character i would not recommend this, you want money, that requires selling “trash” items, filtering out a lot of items through “strict”/not default loot filter would reduce your early-mid game money gain greatly

if you really dislike portaling back and fort selling items “all the time”; or glancing item stats from sorting through a filled inventory to check for keepers or replacement then loot filter can start to be useful
alternatively you could use ex Rainbow mod to highlight to colour code stats on items so they get easier to glance through while having an open loot filter
(yellows(Magick) don’t really sell for much early game, but on your first char selling yellows up to and past mid game will still add up to quite the bit of money, so can still be worth to keep in)
in case you do want to use loot filter at minimum i’d recommend checking the “resist” box in the loot filter and not just have dmg type
personally if/when i start to use loot filter mine looks like this

^remember to fill in for your actual dmg type and desired weapon slot (if not just having all weapons active for more loot to sell)

again, highly recommend a neutral loot filter for first char to get as much money as soon as possible, selling items is rather quick when you can just portal back and use the town rift to return to your own personal portal point where you came from

When you have more bags you’ll be able to hold many more greens.

Also if you’re a new player it’s good to spend time looking at items, learning affixes and bases.

Btw why I don’t filter by damage type: Sentinel, Level 46 (GD 1.1.9.1) - Grim Dawn Build Calculator
Even at 46 level with one of my characters I didn’t have % my_damage_type on ~8 slots.
Although and higher levels I did manage do have most if not all items with %My_damage_type.

that’s exactly how I set it up for myself (1st picture), except my damage is physical and fire and I ticket “Speed” for some crazy casting speed reduction drops that might come for my FW ability.

I actually played with one char before this one ( commando also with shield and fire strike) and I bought some inventory spaces so I guess I’m fine money wise.

trust me, money needs start to pile up fast
usually repeat blacksmith usage can compound fast on your purse (or illusionist :joy:)
but ofc if/when you ever do start to lack money it’s as easy as flipping the lootfilter back and just start selling stuff
