Ch'thon Blood

Most of the recipes I’m trying to make requires this stupid thing, and the reason I’m so frustrated is that the places that used to be good to farm for these (like the hideout when you get the key) is now ONLY giving me the Ch’thon sealing component. Like… super frustrating.

I took my lvl 16 character over to the hideout to clear through it a good while to get these vials of blood, and after ONLY receiving TWO, at lvl 22 then it started to only give me the stupid seals. I’m super upset by this. And all my other characters that need the blood, that can access Blood Grove, are a good lvl 55 or more, so well above the level 45 area that Blood Grove is.

It is entirely frustrating and stupid how components stop dropping entirely from an area you out-level. How about just dropping the drop rate real low instead of stopping it altogether? It makes it super hard to really implement smithing anything when, once you realize you need some item for a recipe, you far out-level the area it drops.

Ex: I’m trying to make Primal Instinct for my summoner (Occultist/Shaman), and I only found out about in passing, so I don’t even have the blueprint, but I figure I’d get all the components ready when I do. But I have to make Nemesis first. Which requires a lot of blood vials, and even a green drop called Salazar’s Sovereign Blade. And wouldn’t you know, the character I want the epic relic for waaaaaay out-levels Salazar in the hideout, so he doesn’t drop blood vials and he doesn’t drop that stupid dagger for that one. Hence the creation and use of my lvl 16 character, who successfully got the dagger, but then only received 2 blood vials before the area decides seals are what I need and won’t drop dick else (or sometimes not a d*mn thing at all). :furious:

EDIT: After replying to everybody kind enough to give me suggestions despite my obviously scrambled rant, I reread what I originally wrote and realised how horrendous it really, actually reads. Lemme try again:

At lvl 59 on one character, that I want Primal Instinct for, I realised that I need a crap load of Ch’thon Blood to craft a lot of the relic recipes I want/need to make to do really cool things, right? So I research where to farm for Ch’thon Blood and was told the best location to go was Blood Grove. Unfortunately, if you outlevel the area by at least 10 levels, nothing really drops as far as these craft items go. Also, a friend told me his favorite place to farm Ch’thon Blood was the Cultist’s Lair in Burrwitch Outskirts. Well, since I outlevel that area on this character, I went to my level 16, pushed her through to the Cultist’s Lair and proceeded to clear the place out a good while.

After receiving the Salazar dagger I needed, but only two Ch’thon Bloods. I proceeded to try and try again. This pushed my character up to level 22 by now, and then, suddenly, instead of Ch’thon Blood the Seal of Binding started dropping. And it wouldn’t stop. So I go back to my level 59 character. Up the difficulty to max, set out to Blood Grove, and by level 62 all I could show for that long grind was 20 some odd Seal of Binding. No Ch’thon Blood. The thing that I need.

Thus, it feels like once you reach a certain level, Ch’thon Blood stops dropping from the specific heroes you normally get them from and the only way I’ve been able to get them at all now is from those chests you open after sacrificing a dynamite to open it. (I say sacrificing, but farming for dynamite is by far the easiest thing to do). I haven’t gotten to the smith that will sell you blood by converting Brain Matter/Ancient Hearts, but even then, those components I do not have a lot of. Even the blueprint you can find still requires those things that I do not find regularly.

At this point, I’d love a mod that can convert Seal of Binding into Ch’thon Blood, honestly.

I’m a bit confused. You’re farming for blood at level 22? There’s not even one spot that has a lot of chthonians (not bloodsworn) at that level yet. You should farm at Bastion of chaos. You won’t run out of those when you go there.

you are way early trying to farm this, also there are plenty of places to come

Ex: I’m trying to make Primal Instinct for my summoner (Occultist/Shaman), and I only found out about in passing, so I don’t even have the blueprint, but I figure I’d get all the components ready when I do. not sure what level that char is, but if you way outlevel Salazar, you should probably fight him in Elite, not Normal… there are 6 types of his weapon for different levels

Bit confused as well. But if you have higher level characters that can run places like the Blood Grove and other cultist locations then use them and simply put whatever blood vials they find in the shared stash.

And if all these characters are still floating around in Normal, then move on to either the AoM expansion (if you have it and want to play it) or on to Elite difficulty. You can get them as rewards for a couple of quests and you can also buy them.

If you have a character that’s reached the Necropolis (which it sounds like you do if you have at least one at Level 55), you could run Warden Krieg for Tainted Brain Matter, pass it to your higher level characters and then trade it in for Blood of Ch’thon and use it for crafting.

You might want to look at some bounties as well, ones that ask for crafting materials like an Ancient Heart will reward you with another crafting material in return (they will state in their description if they do so). The Rovers have a bounty that might help you in this situation.

Actually, there’s this little place called Cultist’s Lair in Burrwitch Outskirts that I can get to on my lvl 16 person. And I ran through it a good number of times, only received 2 Ch’thon bloods before, at lvl 22 then, they started dropping ONLY Ch’thon Seal of Binding and wouldn’t drop anymore bloods. THAT is the problem I’m having.

Ah, yes, the Blood Grove… but I guess you missed the part where I’ve mentioned that I run that place and STILL get Seal of Binding and NOT Ch’thon Blood like I need. It’s like the game replaced at the viable blood drops with seals and expected me to be fine with that. I’ve upped the difficulty to the highest setting and guess what?? I STILL GET THOSE STUPID SEALS!!

I’m sorry, I’m not yelling at you, I’m just frustrated. My only options at this point are to make starter characters and hope for many blood vials from running the Cultist’s Lair in Burrwitch Outskirts until I get too leveled and it starts spitting out seals, or grind for the blueprint of Ch’thon Blood and hope the other components drop. Because even if I buy them, I still need Ancient Hearts and/or Brain Matter and those don’t drop near as often as I would like either…

You’re right that Depraved Sanctuary has Bloodsworn/Ch’thonians but he did mention/specify “a lot of”. The area you’re running is small and at the level you’re trying, there will be few Heroes. Bastion of Chaos as mentioned is much better in this regard due to it’s several larger levels and numerous Bosses or Heroes.

I don’t understand what you mean by “I’m way early trying to farm this”? At level 22 on the same character, as I stated, it suddenly became too overleveled for the game to drop me any more Ch’thon Blood, instead it kept giving me Seal of Binding. This is my problem. My lvl 16 ran through Cultist’s Lair just perfectly fine, and received 2 Ch’thon Bloods. My problem is the game thinking that I need a lot more Seal of Binding than any other stupid component in the game. It’s like once my character hits a certain level, all the places I am told to farm for Ch’thon Bloods begin to ONLY GIVE ME SEAL OF BINDING.

And I did, actually, turn my difficulty up to the highest setting it would go. And guess what they still dropped for me? Seal. Of. Binding. Getting his weapon was not my issue that I described.

But see, finding heroes that drop the goods isn’t my problem. Nobody whose replied to me has an answer for the problem I keep trying to express in the many ways that I can. So let me see if I can be clearer this way:

The game, deciding at some magical point of leveling, decides to replace Blood of Ch’thon drops with Seal of Binding drops.

What this means is the Cultist’s Lair and Blood Grove, both of which I’ve tried to run on all the difficulty settings, does NOT drop the Ch’thon Blood I want and instead gives me all the Seals of Binding instead. And this seems to happen to my many characters I’ve attempted this with once they surpass a certain level. As if I’ve outleveled the use for Ch’thon Blood, which I sorely haven’t. I need a crap ton of the stuff for recipes, but the game thinks that I can use Seal of Binding instead.

Blood of Ch’thon only drops from ch’thonic heroes and bosses so if the game doesn’t generate them in the area you’re farming you’re not going to find any.

Also what’s your faction rep with your characters? Being Hated or above will generate more heroes.

Briefly looking over grimtools monster database at some Ch’thonic/Bloodsworn Heroes/Bosses at around Level 16 and 22, I’m not seeing a change in drop rate. I think you’ve just been getting unlucky since you tried gathering Blood of Ch’thon at Level 22 and are perceiving it as the drop rate for Blood of Ch’thon going down.

What people are suggesting here are more reliable methods of gathering Blood of Ch’thon than what you currently are doing. Hell, some of the methods I suggested of trading in Ancient Hearts or Tainted Brain Matter via the Celestial Smith or Bounties guarantee you get a Blood out of it.

I’m farming in the locations that the Grim Dawn Wiki and website have both told me to farm. Cultist’s Lair and Blood Grove. So that’s not the issue.

I am super hated by them, so rep isn’t the issue, either.

I’m going to these places, I’m upping the difficulty so that the enemies are no longer grey to me, I’m killing the right heroes. The problem is the game’s persistent insistence to give me Seal of Binding instead of Ch’thon Blood.

What do you mean, enemies are grey to you?

My guess is that they mean the enemy level number where it’s not yellow (on par with the player’s) or green (slightly below) but is a tier below that.

If you have a hero that has been to the necropolis, then you can just have that hero change your brains and hearts into blood at the smith.

The heroes only have a small chance to drop (<25%? maybe) a blood.

You’re better bet is to just farm easy-to-reach locked chests for specials, and exchange them. Less grief and running around, imho.

The hero mobs only have a small chance to drop a blood (<25%? maybe… or 25% might be the bosses iirc). Sometimes rng favors you, other times it does not.

Now that I’ve read the OP edit I now get why you’re getting a level 22 toon farm bloods. Here’s a bit of advice:

  1. You don’t have primal instinct blueprint yet. You better not think about it at this time as you’ll probably never get it even at level 100, which means even if you farm a truckload of blood, you might not get to use them for what you want.

  2. Blood Grove isn’t the best farming spot for bloods. It’s bastion of chaos. Blood Grove’s got more bloodsworn and less chtonians so it’s natural that you get more seals than bloods. At BoC it’s all chthonians in there = more blood.

  3. Don’t use low level chars to farm. Higher level = higher difficulty = higher droprates.

Necropolis doesn’t help me, that’s end game stuff. I know my character is nearly lvl 60, but that’s only because most my leveling is done in the two places I’ve discovered that you open with skeleton keys (another reason why I need Ch’thon Blood). So the smith isn’t gonna help me, either. I’m not at end game… at all.

I’ve just barely gotten to the wintery area beyond Blood Grove, I kid you not. I just love running those skeleton key entrance areas…

Try farming the last guy just before Darkvale: he drops Ch’thon’s blood sometimes and, on the way there, search for the treasure trove since it too may drop, but dunno the chances on veteran.

Also, there’s another easy treasure trove @ Mountain Deeps: suggest you run it too.

You’ll need some dynamite for the troves, though.
