Could Crucible be made more user friendly?

After 15 runs I did just now vs. about 20 cancelled ones, I estimate that right now more than 60% of the possible combinations of mutators completely ruin an attempt at a timed crucible run and therefore are super unfun.

Any combination of 1) Shattered, 2) extra res for enemies, 3) attack or cast speed penalty for autoattack/channelling builds are altf4. Some others are bad for certain builds. (Like I know health regen is not meta but why make it a complete meme with the -75% regen mutator?)

Whats worse, unlike SR in Crucible mutators change every round. So even after restarting an x number of 150-170 runs at the start - each time having wasted less than a minute on loading and setting up - you will then have wasted another ~2:30 on waves 150-160 more than 60% of the time because mutators for 160-170 are rerolled.

This is not fun, and basically puts me off every time I wanna come back to the game. So this is my (100th attempt at) anti-mutator rant. Solutions?

  • make it a thing to go no mutators no loot (best)

  • pay 2-5 tributes to exclude certain mutators from the pool (coolest)

  • don’t change mutators every round, only between the rounds where the number of mutators changes

  • make Lokarr remember your default banner/blessings setup and enable it one-click

I know Crate probably arent planning to put in this much work into GD at this point but Im just saying it would be cool if they did. Thanks

I’d suggest another possible solution:

Remove mutators from Crucible. Decrease monsters stat penalty for Crucible if needed to balance it out.

Mutators add nothing but irritation to Crucible gameplay. They go completely against the spirit of gladiator/arena fights. I have yet to meet a Crucible player who enjoys this element.

I’m not a crucible player, but as I observed something crucial, I want to suggest this;

All monsters in crucible should be immune to ā€˜ā€˜Confuse’’ affect on varius skills. (if it’s possible)

A lot of players avoid using skills like Horn of Gandarr for the reason which I think creates a gap between SR setup & CR setup.

tqFan might have an answer for you. His QoL mod removes mutators in Crucible.

… well, I mostly use CR for speedleveling new Chars, so…

Arenamodes are boring, I prefer farming in the main campaign.

But IF the mutators will be deleted in any future patch, then the monsters need some serious buffing…

What!? Why!? I love to see the monsters be confused, while rotting away infected with pox!?

this is probably the most wanted improvement ever.
also, I wanna add sth to this: make monsters immune to Terrify and Knockback too.
it is EXTREMELY annoying to see mobs running away and not returning when you play melee chaos.
Knockback is also annoying as mobs periodically they don’t get up and just lay down.
Chasing single monsters doesn’t add anything to the mod where you need to kill then asap.

and because of this you want to eliminate a whole gameplay-part!?

Well, I play Cabalist most frequently, and use the spreading skills. I do not have the issues you have. And I want those options to stay.

Because in Crucible you compete againts time and Crucible veterans are using the concept to test damage efficiency of various builds. But effects like Confuse or Terrify or Knockback cost them time and even sustain because the monster they were hitting just run away and some other monster take it’s place, the one who won’t die from DoTs etc will replenish their skills and attack you from range.

well…yeah!? And the point is to DEAL WITH IT!?

Play the game? Not change it to only ā€˜your’ playstyle?

My DoTs KILL, so I have not only no issue in this regard but I STRONGLY recommend to leave it as is.

Then mod it, build a Crucible all for yourselves and your playstyle only. But please do not cripple the game for everyone else by killing options, YOU don’t like…

people want it to be changed only for Crucible. in MC and SR there are 0 conflicts with it, I think.

happy for your dots but not all builds have them to finish off running mobs.

I don’t see your point, to be frank.

well, I can explain again.

people want certain CC-effects removed from Crucible as they negatively affect builds’ performance while adding nothing to gameplay - in an arena mod you don’t want to chase down single monsters, you just want to kill them asap and finish the fight.
in other game mods - MC and SR - people have no problems with it, afaik.

Yes, that was clear from the start.

And I say, I don’t want those effects removed from CR, just so that some … people can have another colourful video to show of their generic builds.

With such an argument you can also say: remove all enemies, so that I can get through CR in 0sec.

I say, I want it to stay as is, because ā€˜as is’ fits into MY playstyle. And adds a LOT to gameplay for me.

but it doesn’t fit in OUR playstyle. constructive dialog, don’t you think so?

the fact that people complain about sth for a VERY long time says anything?.. maybe that the thing they complain about should be looked at, at least.

I wouldn’t go so far as to endorse completely removing mutators from Crucible. For regular players who just wanna farm gear (and for some reason don’t wanna do it in SR which is way more cost effective and much much easier), mutators are an element that randomizes each run. This is very important in a ā€œroguelikeā€ kinda game revolving around replaying the same content.

But it’s become kind of a norm among a certain part of the community that Crucible be a tool for measuring builds. Mutators are a huge detriment to that. An option should be created to satisfy this part of the audience as well.

Afaik this has not become a thing among the part of the community I was talking about. Imo it should, however.

Then… you are playing it wrong. You can’t just say:

ā€œI want to play Chess, but please with Poker rules, 'cause this fits to my cheaty playstyle.ā€

But this does lead nowhere, as usual…

No. People should look at themselves for doing things WRONG.

Btw, don’t mix up Mutators ( a change I could live with if monsters are buffed) and eliminating a whole gameplay concept like those CCs. I hope you didn’t get that wrong, I hate misunderstandings.

Problem is it is not them who ends up rotting away. Confuse often ends up being a detriment to the player. Confused enemies avoid dmg while their debuffs and cooldowns remain active.

Yes. It’s called ā€˜ruleset’.
